PersonalPost E700 Postage Meter Quick Install Guide (UK Edition) IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST before plugging in your meter These instructions describe how to quickly unpack and setup your PersonalPost Franking Meter. The meter will not initially operate without your individual Town Circle Smart Card. This is contained within the pink envelope enclosed with your meter. Due to Post Office requirements, your Postage by Phone account number will be sent in a separate envelope marked IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION. When you receive your account number, install the meter by carefully following steps 1-6 in this guide. Your meter is shipped without postage. In step 5 of this guide you will transfer funds from your POSTAGE BY PHONE account into your meter. Refer to the Quick Reference Guide for full details of how to operate your meter. Step 2 - Preparing the Printer Remove Printhead Stop Lift the meter cover. Lift up and REMOVE THE YELLOW PLASTIC STOP which holds the printhead in place. SAVE THIS PART IN CASE YOU EVER NEED TO MOVE OR TRANSPORT THE METER. Remove Yellow Cap Open the cartridge cover by squeezing the side tabs and pivoting the cover back. REMOVE THE YELLOW CAP. SAVE THIS PART WITH THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING IN CASE YOUR METER EVER NEEDS SERVICE. Ink Cartridge Prepare the new ink cartridge by removing the tape which covers the vent and ink holes. Place the new cartridge so the label faces out. Close the ink cover, making sure that both side tabs click into place. To keep the printhead from drying out, always keep a cartridge in the printhead after removing the yellow cap.
Step 3 - Placing your Meter Choose a location for your meter where it can remain plugged in and turned ON at all times, as it will perform auto-maintenance periodically even when it is in power-saving sleep mode. Locate the meter near to a telephone jack, as this is required for refilling the meter with postage. Note: The meter only needs to be connected to the phone line when postage transfer is required to fill meter. Phone Cord Check first that you have an analogue phone line. Virtually all phone lines in the UK can be used. The line is OK if It is a normal residential line. The telephone line is connected to your facsimile machine. You hear a change in tone pitch when buttons are pressed. There is a label or inscription on your phone Power giving the "BABT Ringer Equivalence Number (REN)". Phone The meter cannot be used with digital ISDN lines or if your line uses pulse (LD) dialling. Try connecting to your fax machine socket or an alternative analogue line. Connect the phone cord to the meter and to the telephone wall socket. Power Supply Connect the power supply to the meter. Plug the power supply into a 220-240V wall outlet. This powers up the meter; there is no on/off switch.
Step 4 - Preparing the Meter Remove the Town Circle Smart Card from the pink envelope. At the prompt, INSERT CARD IN SLOT, insert the Town Circle Smart Card in the slot with the oval shaped microprocessor near the bottom. The prompt will change to PLEASE WAIT. This process will take about 3 minutes. At the prompt INSTALL OK REMOVE CARD, remove the Town Circle Smart Card from the slot. At the prompt ADD INK - PRESS ENTER WHEN DONE, press yes to indicate the new ink cartridge is in place. This will begin the ink loading process. The meter displays the message PLEASE WAIT while it performs the maintenance process. This process pumps ink from the new cartridge into the printhead and will take about three minutes to complete. This would be a good time to browse the Quick Reference Guide located under the meter. At the prompt ENTER ACCOUNT NO:, key in your POSTAGE BY PHONE account number assigned by Pitney Bowes. This will be sent separately to your meter. If you wish to change what you have entered, press the Clear (C) key. When you are satisfied that the number is correct, press Enter. Clear No Yes Enter
Step 5 - Postage Refill About Postage by Phone The POSTAGE BY PHONE system allows you to dial-in to a central computer which then automatically transfers funds into your PersonalPost meter. POSTAGE BY PHONE is a prepaid system. You should have sufficient money in your Postage by Phone account before attempting to refill your meter. Adding Funds Check that your phone cord is connected to the meter and plugged directly into the telephone or fax wall socket before beginning the refill process. Do not use a two way/double adapter extension lead or splitter box on the telephone line. At the prompt CONNECT PHONE CORD-PRESS ENTER, press Enter. At the prompt REFILL AMT:, enter the amount of postage you wish to add to the meter; do not key in a decimal point or pence. You can add from 10 to 990 in increments of 10. Note: Press the Clear (C) key if you want to change the amount you entered. When you have selected your refill amount, press Enter. The meter automatically dials the POSTAGE BY PHONE Data Centre to transfer funds. This process takes about a minute. Refill Receipt At the prompt, INSERT FORM FOR RECEIPT, insert an envelope or a postage label. Hold the envelope or label by the bottom edge and insert it face up into the meter by aligning it with the right wall and sliding it straight back. Wait for the meter to print. Save this receipt for your records. If you get the message CANNOT REACH DATA CENTRE, this may be because you need to use a dialling prefix to obtain an outside line. If this is the case, press the Clear (C) key and continue as follows: At the prompt INSTALL NOT COMPLETE HIT YES, press yes. At the prompt SET DIAL PREFIX?, press yes. At the prompt DIALLING PREFIX:, key in the number(s) you would dial to gain access to an outside line; then press Enter. Some phone systems require a pause between the dialling prefix and the telephone number. A two second pause is automatically provided by the meter. Use the decimal (.) key to enter an additional pause after the prefix if required (e.g.: 9. Enter) The REFILL AMOUNT: prompt will reappear. Try the postage refill again as described above.
Step 6 - Printing Postage Sample Envelope After refilling the meter, the display returns to the home screen and displays 0.00 Now is a good time to make a test print of zero value to check the quality of print, whether the date is set correctly and whether your town die prints correctly. Hold the envelope or label by the bottom edge and insert it face up into the meter by aligning it with the right wall and sliding it straight back. Check that the print is clear and that the value information and your town die information print correctly. If the print is not OK, don t use your meter refer to Troubleshooting on the following page. If you still have problems, call Pitney Bowes on 08705 213 213. Printing Postage Key in a postage amount and press Enter. ENTER POSTAGE Two decimal places are assumed; you need not enter a decimal point. For example, if you want 0.27, key in 2 7 Enter. Note: Press the Clear (C) key if you want to change the amount you entered. Insert the envelope for printing. The amount remains set until you change it. If you enter a value of 1.00 or more, the display warns that it is a high value. You must press yes to confirm the large amount before you can print it. Press the Clear (C) key to return the postage displayed to 0.00 27 Sleep Mode If the meter is not used for 10 minutes, the display will go blank and the meter will enter sleep mode to conserve power. Press any key to wake it up. Always keep the meter plugged in, even if you will not use it for a time, since it will perform auto-maintenance while in sleep mode.

At the prompt INSTALL NOT COMPLETE - HIT YES, press yes, then follow the relevant instruction below: REFILL FAILED-CHECK ACCT NO Key in the correct POSTAGE BY PHONE account number (included in your Welcome Pack), then press Enter. NO DIAL TONE - TRY AGAIN? Check first that the phone cord is plugged in. If it is, the telephone line may not be an analogue line. Try using a fax machine line if one is available. CANNOT REACH DATA CENTRE See the relevant section in Step 5 - Postage Refill. PRINTER JAMMED The yellow plastic shipping blocks have not been removed. Remove them as described in Step 2 - Preparing the Meter. INSERT CARD IN SLOT Town Die has not been loaded into meter (see Step 4 - Preparing to Print). Telecoms Information for U.K. Users Warning The connection to the telecommunication systems is to be disconnected before the main plug is removed. The connection to the telecommunication systems is not to be hard wired. The voltages of the port marked with the telephone symbol are Telecommunication Network Voltage (TNV) for the PSTN line connection. To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose this apparatus to rain or any type of moisture. Interconnection circuits for connection to the RJ11 and BS6312 sockets should be such that the equipment continues to comply with the requirements of section 6 of EN60950 for TNV circuits.
