Course Levels Chichester College teaches English across the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). This outline of levels was designed as a framework of reference to guide teachers and students through the assessment of language proficiency. LEVEL CHICHESTER COLLEGE LEVEL DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE EXAM A1 ELEMENTARY Student can understand familiar daily and useful expressions as well as basic phrases. Student can interact with another answering by introducing themselves and asking and answering basic questions as long as the other person speaks slowly and clearly. Anglia Preliminary A2 PRE INTERMEDIATE Student can communicate and understand simple sentences and expressions. Student can also describe simple events, environment around them and aspects of their background to another. Anglia Elementary & PreIntermediate B1 INTERMEDIATE Student can understand familiar matters in regular daily life as well as being able to create simple sentences describing experience, events and personal opinions. Anglia Intermediate Cambridge English PET B2 UPPER INTERMEDIATE Student can understand more complex text and is able to communicate with a degree of fluency and explain their viewpoints on an array of topics. Anglia Advanced Cambridge English FCE C1 ADVANCED Student can understand more complicated and longer texts as well and express themselves fluently and produce clear and complex sentences. Throughout the course there is a strong emphasis on English for communication. Afternoon classes focus on skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Students can also choose from afternoon options of Business, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE or IELTS exam preparation. Afternoon Options for General English 25 Afternoon Options for General English 25 Students taking the General English 25 course can chose from the following afternoon options* Skills The Skills option is designed to take the grammar and vocabulary you have learned and bring it to life in a communicative classroom environment. The four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing will be developed through a wide variety of tasks and activities that put the student at the centre of the learning process. As well as practising the four skills, you will be supported and corrected where appropriate on the accuracy of your English. By the end of the course you should be a more fluent, accurate and confident user of English. Speaking Pronunciation, vocabulary and rhythmic patterns are all aspects of learning how to communicate. Listening The ability to listen and understand what you hear is an important objective to language fluency. Reading Reading skills can help students better understand and advance their English communication. Reading helps students better understand grammar, key words and sentence structure. Writing This class will help you improve your writing through formal and informal writing sessions. Business Exam Preparation The Business option aims to provide an introduction to Business English. This option is for students who plan to study the subject further or who want to improve communication skills in the workplace. The Business option focuses on vocabulary and the daytoday language of business at work covering meetings, negotiations, telephoning and written communications. Main topics incude: types of business, marketing and promotions, email and telephone etiquette, job searching and creating a CV. Exam Preparation classes include PET, FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS examinations. The classes will familiarise you with the structure of your exam. You will learn exam techniques alongside the grammar, vocabulary and the skills needed to be successful. Studying for the PET exam is a very popular way to improve your English. It helps with your Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The PET exam is used by many people to help them in their career. It is for students studying at level B1 or Chichester College s Intermediate level. Accommodation Stockbridge 18+ Stockbridge Chichester College is delighted to unveil this brand new build of over 300 bed spaces in a purpose built site offcampus. Stockbridge offers selfcatering halls of residence for students who are 18 years old or older upon arrival. The accommodation is fully managed by Chichester College and College staff and has 2 blocks allocated to Chichester University students. Laundry facilities are onsite. Students are responsible for their own room and ensuite facilities.in line with the opening of the residence halls the College has an improved internet service for students in all residences. There is a support line, and a fast broadband package included in the fees. There are shared kitchen facilities in the flats which accommodate between 5 and 7 students in each one. Full board is available upon request. Communal areas are cleaned daily and kitchens are cleaned weekly. There is a member of staff on duty 24 hours, 7 days per week not only for the safety and security of the students but also to answer any questions students may have during their stay at Chicheser College. Accommodation Westgate 18+ Westgate Westgate Halls are for students who are 18 and over at time of admission. Westgate has superb selfcatering or full board student accommodation for 160 residents. All rooms are single and ensuite with some having been specifically designed to meet the needs of disabled students. There are shared kitchen facilities in the flats which accommodate 6 students. There are a variety of communal facilities including: Communal common room with TV and DVD, plus food and drink vending machines, A bed pack containing a duvet, pillows and bed linen may be purchased from Westgate upon arrival. Accommodation Woodlands 16 17 Woodlands Woodlands provides secure accommodation for 90 students from September 2014 between 1618yrs old at the time of admission. This oncampus student accommodation comprises single and twinbedded study bedrooms, some of which are ensuite. Shower and toilet facilities are situated on each floor of the 1618yrs old accommodation. During summer months, Woodlands will be available for students aged 1217 yrs. Woodlands has two common rooms and a reception area, large, widescreen TVs, pool tables, table tennis table, Xbox & Wii, karaoke equipment and it is wifi enabled. Woodlands has its own cleaning and laundry staff and two laundry rooms with card operated machines for students. Woodlands hall of residence provides catering to residents on a fullboard basis which is included in the accommodation price. Woodlands is staffed 24 hours a day by trained supervisors. All communal corridors have been fitted with CCTV to create a positive and safe environment for all students. Student privacy remains a priority and there is a clear CCTV policy to ensure this. Accommodation Homestay 16+ Homestay Homestay is ideal for short stay students who want to experience the traditional experience of living with a local family. Homestay means that you will live in a house with the owner and family. This accommodation is available to all students on full time courses. Students in Homestay accommodation can specify whether they wish to be in a smoking or nonsmoking household. Students may also specify whether they wish to be in student Homestay accommodation with or without pets or children. Half Board Half Board Homestay accommodation means that you live in a house with the owner and family having your breakfast and evening meal provided during the week and at the weekend, breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided.
