The example below shows Internet Explorer where you must click on Allow at the bottom of the window.
If you wish to use other browsers (such as Firefox or Chrome) or to use with a Mac computer or mobile device, choose one of the options from the Help button for specific directions. There are step-by-step procedures for each as well as a helpful video tutorial. 2. Log into the Remote Desktop with Blackboard username and password. Username: First initial of first name + last name + last 3 digits of student ID (no spaces see example below) Password: 6 digit birth date (MMDDYY) This is the default password, you may wish to change it, use the Reset my password option in Blackboard. In Internet Explorer you will need to click Allow on the message window.
3. Here you will find software applications and a My Documents storage area, organized into folders. Click on the folder, browser or other application you require. Multimedia students will need the Adobe folder for Photoshop etc.
4. Click to open the specific software desired.
You will see the following window: 5. A RemoteApp dialog box will open. You will now need to click on Connect. You will see this window each time you open different software applications or navigate through the Remote Desktop Service. Please note: This is where using browsers other than Internet Explorer will differ. If using Firefox or Chrome you may see an internal connection window that will require an additional log-in but requires prefacing the user name with msjc\ (see below)
6. The software will open, allowing you to work on Multimedia assignments. Note the Back arrow for going to the previous screen. Or you can minimize the Photoshop window to see the Applications window again.
Remote Desktop Icons are placed on the task bar of a PC and have a different appearance to regular local applications. For example here you can see I have Photoshop open as well as the My Documents folder and Firefox browser: Click on the icon to restore the window.
To save files 7. You can save documents from Photoshop (or other software application) to the My Documents for access from any computer.
To render the file as a standard file type,.jpg or.png (as your instructor directs): File > Save for Web
8. To view your files you can navigate from the Applications window to My Documents:
Please note: This area does not recognize.psd files so you will not see the familiar Photoshop file icon. You can copy files from here and paste them on your local computer.
9. You can also save your files from Photoshop (or other software) to your usb drive. First plug the usb drive into the local computer. Then, from Photoshop go to File > Save As > Select This PC > Save.
Typically usb drives will show on Devices and drives E or F. Choose the highest letter displayed. Do not worry about accidently selecting the wrong drive if you choose the wrong one you will receive a message that you cannot access that area. No worries!
10. Open files from usb in Photoshop First place your usb drive into the local computer. Then open Photoshop (as above) and go to File > Open:
11. Posting from the Remote Desktop Services to Blackboard. When you have completed your assignment and saved it to My Documents folder you can proceed to post it to your Blackboard Discussion Board. Go back to the Applications window and double-click on the Firefox icon to open a browser window.
