At the heart of the ew projectors is the Barco Alchemy module. This module was realized thaks to IP blocks from Barco-Silex. 2 ewsletter Imec Reports Record ADC for Next- Geeratio Software Defied Radio 1bit 200MSamples/s dyamic pipelied SAR ADC i 28m digital CMOS achieves a peak resolutio of 70.7dB, oly 2.3m Watt Imec preseted a low power pipelied SAR (successive-approximatio register) ADC (aalog to digital coverter) i 28m digital CMOS with record resolutio, speed ad power performace at the VLSI circuits symposium 201 i Jue. The ovel ADC targets wireless receivers for ext-geeratio software defied radio, icludig wireless stadards such as LTE-advaced ad the emergig geeratio of Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11ac). I a software defied radio, the ADC eeds high speed, high resolutio ad high power efficiecy i a dyamic solutio, supportig high, as well as low badwidth stadards. As such, he will cotribute to the creatio of top-level research ad iovatio capacity to stregthe the iteratioal competitiveess of the Flemish maufacturig idustry. I Fladers, the maufacturig idustry offers direct employmet to about 200,000 persos i 5,700 compaies that are active i, amog others, the automotive ad mechaical egieerig idustry as well as i other high-tech productio eviromets. i the field of mechatroics, product developmet methods ad productio techologies, all drive by the challeges ad eeds of the idustry, provide the basis for this. This will, as a first step, result i actual applicatios for machies, vehicles, vehicle compoets ad high-tech productio systems at these 100 participatig compaies. Two DSP Valley members KU Leuve TechologieCampus Get (formerly KAHO Sit-Lieve) ad UGet Departmet Idustrial System ad Product Desig (formerly HoWest) are still workig o a prologatio of the project util 30/09 (ageda o The project addressed idustrial data commuicatio ad embedded cotrol, ad developed ad taught courses for practicig egieers i idustry i Fladers, Frace ad the UK. To itroduce high-ed applicatios i idustry, a umber of demostrators have bee desiged. The Flemish project parters have reached more tha 750 egieers from i total more tha 200 compaies i Fladers aloe. For idustrial data commuicatio, focus was o PROFIBUS DP ad PROFINET, ad o advaced diagostics ad error searchig. The project parters have built up experiece i advaced diagostics, ad are well equipped for e.g. respose measuremets (combiig decoded etwork messages ad real-world aalog sig als ito oe sigle measuremet) ad (idustrial) EMC measuremets. idustrial etworks such as PROFIBUS ad PROFINET for I/O, resulted i a umber of demostrators ad first idustrial applicatios. A proof-of-priciple itegratig real-time code geeratio from Matlab for a S7-mEC usig oly etworked sesors ad actuators is show i the aerodyamic levitatio of a beach Matlab & Simulik were used as tools to geerate real-time code for both educatioal, research ad idustrial hardware targets. As geeratig code for stadard idustrial hardware targets (e.g. PLCs, PACs) is quite ew ad ukow to the geeral maufacturig idustries, the project focused o these idustrial targets. The combiatio of algorithm developmet i Matlab, code geeratio for stadard idustrial equipmet (safety ), ad fairly stadard itegratio ito ball demostrator (Fig. 1). 9 EMBEDDED CORNER TOBCAT project results: applyig object categorizatio techiques i real-life idustrial cases I this IWT-TETRA we ivestigated the use of object categorizatio techiques for applicatio i real-life idustrial cases. With these advaced computer visio algorithms, objects ca be detected i camera images regardless of itraclass variaces i shape, colour, orietatio, size, etc. A detector for these difficult objects is traied o a large umber of aotated traiig images describig the object class. We successfully built detectors for orchids, pedestrias, biscuits, elderly walkig aids, cady, mites, wheat grais, road markigs ad cars. Durig this project we traslated the Viola&Joes object detectio framework, kow from the face detector i cosumer digital cameras, to a ready-touse software package for the idustrial parters to create their ow object class detectio model ad iterface. Besides that, we looked ito existig object classificatio software that was available i the ope source computer visio library OpeCV, which cotaied a implemetatio of the HOG+SVM ad LatetSVM based algorithms. We discovered that there is a large iterest i these techiques from our idustrial parters. A first case focussed o classifyig a large set of phalaeopsis flowers ito differet categories. We used a reduced set of traiig data to trai a flower model detector that could detect all categories at oce. Afterwards each detectio is submitted through a set of biary SVM classifiers to derive which actual orchid category it is: uiformly coloured or with a patter (striped, dotted, spotted or lip). I a secod case we ehaced the Viola&Joes framework with rotatio ivariace. We oticed that the origial object class models were oly robust to slight orietatio chages (5-10 ) as compared to the traiig data. However, may idustrial applicatios have objects appearig i frot of the camera i almost every possible orietatio. Therefore we studied a case o rotatio ivariat cady detectig for idustrial bi pickig. Before performig the object detectio we create a 3D rotated image space, by rotatig the origial iput 36 times over 10 degrees. By performig the detectio o each layer of this space we are able to detect i object i every sigle orietatio. Aother dowside of these state-ofthe-art object categorizatio techiques is that they eed tos of traiig data to achieve a robust object model. However, our tests illustrated that kowig the cotext of the applicatio, ad decidig which parameters ca be reduced i rage, allows to trai effective ad robust models with oly a couple of hudreds of traiig images. For example usig the fact that a camera setup is mostly fixed i idustrial cases, we esure that a object has a limited size rage i which it ca appear ad that we have a good kowledge about the backgroud. This reduces the amout of backgroud images for traiig eeded ad icreases the detectio time because we do ot look for object that are out of the scale rage. Fially, all the results ad coclusios that were made durig this IWT- TETRA project will be preseted at our AAAVisio Symposium, which is hosted at campus De Nayer i Sit-Katelije- Waver o thursday, the 18 th of september. Besides other project results, a demo fair will be held where idustrial ad academic researchers demostrate applicatios of complex computer visio techiques. 9
