1 Using the HostAway Members Panel 1. Below is the home page of the HostAway member s panel. It gives you a quick overview of your domain with the menu on the left side. We will go through those menu options throughout this document.

2 2. First up we have the Management where we can view all the account associated with our domain. At the bottom of this screen there is an add new account where you can set the username and password of the account you wish to setup and click Add You will notice across the top 5 columns across the top for your accounts with ticks and crosses, these correspond with options for each mail account set in the Edit menu which you can see on the right hand side. We will go through them in detail on the next page. It s also a good time to let you know if you have any mirror hosting packages set up the system will automatically bring mail sent to the username@mirrordomain.com.au to your primary domain account. For example if we had a mirror of HostAwa y called mirror.com.au and an set up on HostAway called johndoe@hostaway.net.au, when we send mail to johndoe@mirror.com it will appear in the johndoe@hostaway.net.au account. This will also work the opposite way round if we instead wanted to send and receive mail from johndoe@mirror.com. The only difference is which account you add to your mail application.

3 5. Below you will see the settings for the account. We reached this menu by clicking edit to the right of the johndoe account on the previous page. Default Spam Filtering is set to a tag at 4 and drop at 8. Basically with spam filtering on every received will be scanned and assigned a number based on how likely the message is to be spam, 1 being the lowest and 15 being the highest. Tagging will add the word [Spam] to the front of the message subject before sending it to your inbox. Dropping however deletes the message before it reaches your inbox so be very careful lowering your drop at number. RBL Filtering stands for real time blacklist filtering. We get a list of known spammers from spam prevention authorities which allow us to automatically block incoming s from them. We recommend you leave this option on. Forwarding mail will send all mail that reaches your inbox to another address. With keep a copy of forwarded mail turned on the inbox will store mail as well as pass it on to the forward address. With it turned off however mail will just be forwarded on and not stored in the inbox. To setup a forward just type the address in the field and hit submit. With auto responder turned on all your received mail will be replied to with the message in the text box on this screen. Useful for letting people know you are out of the office. Please note for this to work keep a copy of forwarded mail must be turned on. Change password is pretty self-explanatory. If you wish to change the password click yes and type in a new password, then hit submit. You can also view the current password by mousing over the show current password link

4 6. We will give some forewarning on this topic. Don t change any DNS settings unless you know exactly what you re doing. Changing any of these items could easily break your website or mail. First up there is the mx records. These by default are set to HostAway s mail server or your mail server if requested on signup. If you are looking to change your mx records to point away from HostAway s mail server please let us know! There are some internal settings we need to change to match it to make sure mail reaches your mail server. Please support@hostaway.net.au when ready to make these changes. A records and CNAME records are both here as well. These are fairly easy to add, edit and remove but again I stress to you to only change these if you know what you re doing.

5 7. Next up we have the FTP Accounts menu. This list will show you all additional FTP accounts and the directory they have permission to view. This menu does not show the root FTP account. The root FTP account details are on the domain welcome . To add a new user you can click new user and specify the username, password and the directory they have access to (don t worry about typing the directory just use our handy browse button to select it). You can edit an existing account in pretty much the same way by clicking on the edit button corresponding to their name.

6 8. The Databases page is pretty straightforward. It simply provides you links to the different MySQL and MSSQL databases login screens attached to your account. Login details to these pages can be found in the domain welcome .

7 9. This is the Website Quota page. It simply shows you how much of your web storage space you ve use and how much is remaining. If you are experiencing errors on your website or FTP I would advise checking this page to make sure you haven t run out of space. If you are experiencing errors and removing data isn t an option you can purchase additional storage by ing us at support@hostaway.net.au or giving us a call.

8 10. We recently added this subdomain menu to the members panel. Previously the only way to get a subdomain was to pay for a separate hosting account for the subdomain. Now we have the option to keep subdomains on the same hosting account as the main domain. There are a few differences between the two that are listed in the important information. These free subdomains utilize a folder in your current hosting as the document root as opposed to a separate file system altogether. The means if your main site is compromised so is your subdomain. Therefore if you are very security conscious or want to implement a billing or similar system onto a subdomain you may want to keep it separate. 9 11. A.htaccess file allows you to set parameters to allow/restrict access to the folder the.htaccess file resides in. This handy tool allows you to generate a.htaccess file that you can then upload to the folder you would like to protect. If the folder has an existing.htaccess file you can just ammend the text provided to the current file. Path: directory to protect starting with a / (ex. /images) Display Name: This is the name displayed on the popup login box Username: The username to access this folder Password: The password to access this folder
