1 HowTo Project: Description: Planning table online Installation Version: 1.0 Date: Short description: With this document you will get information how to install the online planning table on your web space. 2 Requirements: Online Web space FTP access to that web space PHP4 or higher on your web space A mysql database on your web space The required.csv file containing the data or the program to create it. e Mail: [email protected] Seite 2

3 Step 1 Installation: After uploading the files to your web space, open the installation page in your favorite web browser. Enter the required data and click on save. Enter the address of your database. If the database and the web server are on the same computer, localhost will be ok. Enter the name of your database here Enter the username for the database. The user must be able to write to the database. Enter the password for the user. The table prefix is used to easily see which table belongs to which project. Use something like ptl_. Last but not least enter an address for the administrator. Any information mails about new users etc. will be sent there! e Mail: [email protected] Seite 3

4 Step 1 Installation: The installation routine now tries to connect to the specified database, writes a configuration file and inserts a user with administrative rights and a random password. Important: Write down the Password for the Administrator! You will need it soon! Then click on here to continue. It will show your administrative user and password here. THIS IS NOT YOUR PASSWORD! The pass shown here is just to demonstrate what it will look like. You can change the password in the admin menu. 5 Step 2 The main screen: If everything went ok, you ll see the following screen. On top of the screen you will find a test logo and on the right side a login form. This is just a test logo. You can replace it with any logo you want. This is the login form. e Mail: [email protected] Seite 5

6 Step 2.1 Replacing the logo: If you don t want to change the logo to your own logo now, skip this step. You can replace the logo at another time. To replace it, connect via FTP on your web space and change to the subfolder pics. There you will find the logo.jpg file. You can replace it with any other logo.jpg file on your computer. If you want to use a file with another filename or extension you have to edit the index.php file in your main folder manually and replace the filename there (if you do so, be careful!). This is the logo file which needs to be replaced to show your own logo. e Mail: [email protected] Seite 6

7 Step 2.2 Inserting the.csv file: This is one of the most important steps. The.csv file contains all the required data. You should have gotten it with the installation package or have the program to create it. Upload it via FTP (either with the client of your choice or with the planning table program) to the main folder of the online planning table. Put the.csv into the folder with the rest of the files. 8 Step 3 Login: Now we have all the required files we need to see the planning table online. But first, we have to login. So, switch back to the browser and fill the written down data into the login form on the top right side. e Mail: [email protected] Seite 8

9 Step 4 The planning table: After logging in, you will see the admin menu. As administrative user, you will have 2 extra buttons. One is called show all the other one is called admin menu. If you click on show all you will see the complete planning table. You can click on any job account number to just see this one. You can also manually enter a number in the box above. (blanked out for this guide) In this table you see the status. When moving the mouse over symbols, you ll get an information, what they mean. e Mail: [email protected] Seite 9

10 Step 4.1 The admin menu: The admin menu presents a table with all the users. Click on the edit user button to edit the user s data or assign job IDs to him. With this button, you can manage users and assign job IDs Click on this button to edit a user. e Mail: [email protected] Seite 10

11 Step The admin menu: After clicking on edit user you will see the user s data. You can change any values you want, you can verify his mail manually, so the user doesn t have to click the mail link, you can even give the user admin rights. But be warned: Any user with admin rights can edit other users and see the whole table! To assign job IDs to a user just enter them into the box. Please enter only one ID per line. When finished editing or assigning, click on Update profile. Note: To change a users password, you have to use the password change box on the right side. This is the user s account data. 12 Step 5 Additional information: After installation and setup you should delete the installation.php file from your folder. (it s not necessary but recommended) You can edit the shown texts like admin menu, Welcome guest, etc. by opening the langvars.php file in any text editor and changing the texts. But be careful, not to remove any semicolons at the end of the lines or HTML Tags. Just replace the text. Please read the comments in the file before editing (Comments start with //) Never change anything, if you don t know what you are doing. And if you change anything, don t forget to backup the original file, just in case something does not work like you want. Thank you for reading this guide.
