En palabras con una vocal corta y que terminan en consonante simple, la consonante se duplica,
5 e.g. stopped, planned. En palabras que acaban en consonante + y, la -y cambia a -i, e.g. carried, hurried. La -l se duplica en inglés británico (pero no en inglés americano), e.g. travelled.
