1 Dear future families and students of Marblehead High School, My name is Cassie Riddle, and I recently graduated from Marblehead High School in In the last month of school I took part in Senior Project, which allows students to explore their interests by participating in an internship. I plan to study Spanish in college, so for my Senior Project I chose to work with Mrs. Sliney. After taking Latin for five years, and Spanish for three years, I have grown to appreciate language. Having the ability to speak another language creates more opportunities for students, including the ability to communicate with more people. I value language, especially Spanish, which is why I chose to include Spanish in my Senior Project. As a part of my internship, I helped create summer work for future Spanish 2 students. As a Senior and a Spanish 3 student, I encourage students to utilize the summer work to review and improve their skills. Reviewing and continuing to practice Spanish over the summer will be very beneficial because a little practice each day can go a long way. I recommend looking over the reference sheets, reviewing the quizlets, and try speaking with your parents or friends for fun and practice. 2 Throughout the summer you should be reviewing Spanish and preparing the QUIEN SOY YO? assignment for the beginning of the new school year. In this assignment you will: 1. Complete a short project QUIEN SOY YO? 2. Review the grammar concepts that are important for Spanish 2 3. Make sure that you know the meanings of the verbs from English to Spanish, including the irregular yo go-go verbs and stem-changing verbs. 1. Quién soy yo? (Who am I?) Please prepare the assignment for the first week of school. The instructions are attached, and you must complete all the requirements of the project. 2. Review the list of AR, ER, IR Verbs. It is expected that you know ALL of these verb meanings and conjugations for Spanish 2. Attached to the verb list are quizlets, which you may use to help review the words. 3. Review the Irregular YO--Go Go Verb reference sheet and understand that you are expected to know the meaning of these verbs from English to Spanish and how they change in the yo form. 4. SER VS. ESTAR: Review the uses of these verbs that in English mean TO BE ( I am, you are, he is, she is, you are, they are) with just one verb but in Spanish have 2 verbs. Make sure you are very familiar with the vocabulary that goes with each verb. 5. Stem-changing verbs: These verbs that change from E to IE/ E to I / O to UE are very important. You must be able to conjugate them correctly, know the verb meanings and understand which category they belong to (ie, i or ue). 6. GUSTAR: there is a reference sheet for this difficult verb type that can help you integrate it into your project. Please use for additional practice Quién soy yo? 3 The goal of this project is to practice using ser and vocabulary in order to describe yourself! Please look at the ser and estar review sheet in the summer folder in order to remember why you are using ser and not estar when they both mean I am, you are, he is, she is, you are, we are, they are. It is very easy to use a translator but the point is for YOU to practice the correct usage of these 2 difficult verbs that you will be expected to use correctly in the fall! On an 8 ½ by 11 in piece of paper, include at least 10 sentences along with images to describe yourself. All sentences should be in the present tense. You may use reference sheets to help with vocabulary. You must include: at least one picture of yourself use 3 stem changing verbs (see reference sheet) the verb gustar to express one thing you like and one thing that you do not like. Don t forget: You NEVER use YO or TU with verbs like gustar!!!!!!!!!!!! A mí me gusta jugar al fútbol.
