3 Background on Humanities Program: Among top 10 fastest growing programs at MJC Courses are gateways to many subjects + fields All courses fulfill Transfer & GE Requirements Large sections & online formats maximize enrollment Faculty productivity is high: WSCH/FTEF of (30% higher than MJC s average) fill rates: 118%; Census fills 97%, 14%, & 7%, each above school averages Professor of Humanities - Growth Position
4 Humanities Concerns State wants more transfer level offerings & ADT degrees Long wait-lists every semester. This shows: + Humanities classes address student/community needs Bottleneck: many students turned away from classes F2014 Professor of Humanities - Growth Position
5 Humanities Instructors Now 2 Full Time & 4 adjuncts are maxed out. In California, tightened minimum qualifications have reduced the Part Time pool -- harder to hire for less than full-time. Professor of Humanities - Growth Position
6 Humanities Outlook: Increased Productivity A third full-time instructor will open our bottleneck: Teach 200 more students per semester (5 courses x 40 student cap), Offer more students access to transfer courses Humanities Dept. will apply for an Interdisciplinary A.A.-T. Humanities Degree A 3 rd full-time instructor will bring more expertise to: Support the curriculum and the A.A.-T program, Participate in grant projects, and co-curricular activities. 6
