1 A City of Dallas Partnership with ParkMe, PayByPhone, and Zipcar 2015 TPTA Conference Call for Awards 2 nd Annual Awards Competition Category 4 - Parking Technology and Equipment The Smart Connections project took a 1980 s parking system and created a modern platform that connects public and private sector parking options plus provides on-street parking data and links to payment in a single location..dallas ParkMe.

Application Design: User friendly, easy to use app for both locating parking and links to payment for all metered on-street parking that reduces the number of steps required to park a vehicle with a smart technology guided trip.

4 Smart Connections Project Goal Simplify the Dallas parking experience. Objectives Improve the distribution of parked cars in high use areas. Improve the perception and knowledge of available parking and related services. Reduce the number of barriers in trip decisions related to parking.

5 Smart Connections Project Design The City of Dallas partnered with 3 smart apps to connect an over 90% dumb meter parking system and created a smart connections system that makes metered parking a simple, easy part of web-based trip decisions via smart device including smartphone, tablet, laptop, ipod etc. Design Targets Connect metered parking with private sector public garage parking options Increase the amount, availability and distribution of parking information Link City offered parking services: payment PayByPhone, carshare- Zipcar, and metered parking locations ParkMe. Design Features and Information Updates For Smart Connections Project ParkMe redesigned the on-street parking view to be able to fully integrated a third-party payment provider choice. At the City s request, ParkMe fully integrated a link to PayByPhone App to increase customer convenience and ability to locate and pay for parking. A visual display of all metered parking locations both on-street and in lots (over 4,000 spaces). Information on metered parking locations rate, effective hours, and time limits. A visual display of Zipcar locations. A spring 2015 push notification from the PayByPhone app to let users know that the ParkMe app is now available for metered parking spaces in Dallas.

6 Smart Connections Project Links to Other Public Parking and Services Smart Connections Project connected metered parking to pre-existing app features including: Direct routing to parking garage entrances for private operated public parking garages. Real-time, estimated, and static information on available parking spaces in public parking in garages and surface lots. Parking rate calculator to help drivers find the cheapest parking option. A timer that alerts a driver when their parking expires so they can move their vehicle. The ability for local businesses to add ParkMe' s parking map to their websites for free using the ParkMe Widget Builder.

7 Project App Design Highlights New ParkMe App Feature To make life easier for drivers in Dallas, ParkMe redesigned and fully integrated a feature that gives drivers the ability to pay for parking from their phone using third-party payment providers. /dallas-parkme-app-channels-uber-inaddition-of-mobile-payments

9 Smart Connections Impact Smart Connection Project helps Metered Parking fit into the Dallas Culture of a Connected City The City of Dallas has a large number people who use smart devices to connect many aspects of their lives including parking choices. In a 2013 report from cloud and mobile testing company, SOASTA and Harris interactive, Dallas leads US Cities in mobile device penetration: 76 percent of respondents owned and used a smartphone; 48 percent owned and used a tablet. Before the smart connections project, information on metered parking spaces including locations, rates, time limits, and effective hours was not available via web or app. Now drivers can see a variety of parking choices that include metered parking spaces by using the ParkMe guidance app. New Life to an Old System + + = Smart Transportation App Smart Payment App Smart Parking Guidance App Smart Connections

10 Smart Connections Impact Dallas Parker s easily adopt and continue to use Apps as seen with the success of PayByPhone. Dallas has had a great rate of PayByPhone adoption in the last year since the PayByPhone fully implemented on-street metered parking in December Smart Connections project builds on the success of PayByPhone by integrating the payment option into the guidance app and in Spring 2015 will use a push notification to PayByPhone users to increase awareness of the smart connections now available. 11 Smart Connections Impact Dallas Parkers want to use a connected system for locating and paying for parking In a 2014 Dallas Parking Pilot Program Survey, over 60% of the respondents indicated they would use an app that allows you to locate and pay for parking. Smart Connections project meets the expectations of Dallas Parkers by providing a smart phone app with a map that allows you to locate and pay for parking in on-street metered parking and in public parking garages. 12 The Smart Connections project helps to make parking in Dallas simple and easy The Smart Connections Projects lets drivers in Dallas access information on over 4,000 parking meter locations through the ParkMe smartphone application which is free to download and available on ios, Android, & Windows Phones.
