3 Dear Readers, Theory + practice = success This is the complex, yet at the same simple, formula that defines the model of success that is the Cooperative State University. A model for the future. There are currently over 8,800 students studying at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart and at the Horb Campus, who alternate every three months between theoretical studies in small groups of around 30 students at the university and practical work with their dual partner companies. Students at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart earn their own salaries from the very start of their degree course, are taught by first-class lecturers and are able to spend a semester abroad. Over 80 percent of our students are employed by their dual partner following graduation. The dual partners can deploy the students in specific departments of the company, prepare them for work following graduation and thus support the professionals and managers of tomorrow from the very start. The Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart, which was set up in 1974 as a Berufsakademie, or Cooperative College, has been offering cooperative Bachelor and Master s degrees for over 40 years. Based on the Stuttgart model, the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart has developed as an innovative addition to the university landscape of Baden-Wuerttemberg. A joint success that has made history. Now it s time for you to write your own history. You can take the right first step by embarking on a degree course at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart. Yours sincerely, Prof. Dr. Joachim Weber President of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart DHBW STUTTGART -- 1

5 MADE IN BADEN-WUERTTEMBERG SUCCESS 40 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL STUDY THE BADEN-WUERTTEMBERG COOPERATIVE STATE UNIVERSITY STUTTGART In the early 1970s, Daimler-Benz, Bosch and SEL set up what became known as the Stuttgart model as a forerunner of cooperative colleges, or Berufsakademie as they were known. It started off in 1974 with 122 students in 35 companies. In 2009, the Baden- Wuerttemberg state government acknowledged the excellent development of the cooperative college and gave the Berufsakademie Stuttgart university status. The Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart was established on 1st March Its Stuttgart site, with its Horb Campus, is now one of the region s lar gest universities: around 8,000 students complete Bachelor degrees at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart. Studying at a Cooperative State University is based on the alternation between theory and practice. Students undertake the theoretical part of the degree course in 2,500 first-class establishments in Germany and abroad. The range of courses include diverse pathways in the three faculties: Business, Engineering and Social Work. Since autumn 2011, the Baden- Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart has been offering dual Master s degrees in all faculties, thereby enabling cooperative career development beyond the Bachelor degree. This document applies equally to male and female persons. We have opted not to specify men and women separately for ease of legibility. DHBW STUTTGART -- 3

Companies and social institutions select their students themselves, conclude a three-year contract with them and offer continuous remuneration during their degree course. Thanks to the continuous alternation between theoretical and practical phases every three months, students gain the competence and social skills needed for working life alongside specialist and methodological knowledge and expertise. Theoretical content and practical content are closely coordinated with one another and incorporate current developments in business, engineering and society in their curricula. The work performed during the practical phases represents an integral part of the course, which is why all courses at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Stuttgart are recognised as intensive courses and accorded 210 ECTS points DHBW STUTTGART

Just under 80 percent of graduates are offered this opportunity. Our dual partners in the cooperative degree system include more than 2,500 small and medium-sized companies, global players and social institutions from all possible sectors. DHBW STUTTGART -- 43
