1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Department Division Reports to Salary Range Term Hours Digital Producer, First World War and atrium galleries Digital Media Business and Governance Digital Media Manager 35,527-40,202 per annum Fixed Term to July hours net per week Imperial War Museums Imperial War Museums is a family of five museums: IWM London; IWM North in Manchester; IWM Duxford near Cambridge; the Churchill War Rooms in Whitehall, London; and the historic ship HMS Belfast, moored in the Pool of London. IWM is unique in its coverage of conflicts, especially those involving Britain and the Commonwealth, from the First World War to the present day. We seek to provide for, and to encourage, the study and understanding of the history of modern war and 'wartime experience'. We are proud to be regarded as essential sights of London, Cambridgeshire and Greater Manchester. Digital Media department This post sits within the Digital Media department, which is responsible for the delivery of all on-site (gallery), mobile and web-based digital output for IWM. Regeneration: First World War Centenary Project This major programme of work will renew galleries and services at IWM London. The first phase will see the creation of new First World War and atrium galleries which will open in summer 2014 to mark the centenary of the First World War. The galleries aim to set a new benchmark for war and history museums and shape the future of IWML s public offer. The Digital Producer is responsible for project managing the creative and technical development of the software (approximately 60 pieces ranging from simple films to multi-user interactive installations) to ensure that the finished galleries are delivered on time, on budget and provide an exceptional visitor experience. This will mean working very closely with the Digital Media Manager, Exhibition Manager and the content teams, exhibition designers, external and internal software developers, the Exhibition Construction Manager (who will undertake the contract administration for the software contracts), the

2 Technical Manager (responsible for hardware and technical infrastructure) and the AV contractor. Therefore the post holder must be an excellent communicator and collaborator with robust planning and organisational skills. Software Tender Compilation period Attend meetings with the team to understand the project vision, style and content Review current designs and media requirements with the team Compile the software style and content guide, including access requirements, for example, subtitles, BSL etc Review and develop the outline software development programme and continue to update and issue to exhibition construction manager for inclusion within the master programme. Content, Assets and Copyright Licenses Manage the content/asset list in liaison with the Exhibition Manager to ensure the programme for delivery is kept up to date. Review the agreed copyright license process and agree a strategy for delivering assets to the software companies. Software Tender Period Review tender responses in collaboration with the team and input into the tender report Provide feedback for all tender enquiries in line with IWM procedures Software Pre-production and Production Produce the detailed design, production and delivery programme for the software development Manage the creative production of the software with the team and ensure that stakeholders are included at appropriate and identified points Manage the approval process of the software with the team. Manage evaluation of the software in line with IWM guidelines Collate and issue a monthly report for all software packages. Ensure software guidelines are observed Keep the Digital Media Manager informed on all progress Coordination with the AV Hardware Consultant / Contractor Liaise with the Technical Manager and the hardware consultant/contractor on all media formats and review compatibility with suggested hardware Manage the software designers for off-site tests / mock ups and ensure media is provided in the agreed format Plan off-site approvals where required and manage the approval process Software Installation and Hand Over Issue a detailed commissioning, testing and final sign off programme to be agreed with the team On completion; manage the delivery of the software assets and source code and oversee the installation and load testing on site Manage the sign off process with Exhibition Manager and Construction Manager Manage and coordinate the software contractors to produce O&M manuals in accordance with IWM and construction manager guidelines. Ensure all copyright licence certificates are issued and filed for record purposes Meetings relating to the AVS development Arrange, chair and minute creative software with the team 2

3 Health and safety IOSH Managing Safely-Responsible for implementing systems and procedures to support all Health & Safety at Work Acts and other legal requirements and any reported unsafe working conditions and practices are sought out and rectified. Complete Annual Stress review and regular departmental Health & Safety Audits to monitor staff training and progress on production of risk assessments General Draft papers and reports as required Represent the Museum and the project at internal and external meetings and events, giving talks and briefings as required Staff must be aware of and abide by IWM s information security, data protection and health and safety policies regarding the handling of all sensitive and personal data This job information cannot be all encompassing. 6 Terms and Conditions Your normal hours of work will be 41 gross including lunch breaks. This would normally be Monday to Thursday 09:00-17:15 and Friday 09:00-17:00, unless otherwise agreed with your line manager. There is a requirement on occasions to work unsocial hours or at weekends for which leave in lieu will be granted. The successful candidate will be on probation for 6 months. The annual leave allowance is 25 days per annum plus public holidays, rising to 30 days after five year s service. IWM has introduced a total ban on smoking in all its buildings. In the first 13 months of service you are only eligible to Statutory Sick Pay. Salary The salary range for the post is 35,527-40,202 per annum. Starting salary is normally at the minimum of the range. Salary increases are in line with the IWM s Performance Pay Scheme, which is subject to government pay policy.
