The first issue of the bulletin brought out by the TNPHC received an overwhelming response. Those who wrote included Tr. M.K. Narayanan, National Security Advisor, Tmt. S. Malathi, Home Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, Director Generals of Police from the State as well as from other States and a host of senior Police officers, Collectors etc., to whom the bulletin was sent. The National Security Advisor commended the TNPHC for its remarkable achievements and gave his blessings for its rapid growth from strength to strength. The Home Secretary, Tamil Nadu gave a number of useful suggestions some of which, like putting the bulletin on the website ( have already been implemented. In fact, the TNPHC is extremely grateful to all the officers who took out time to write, complimenting us for the overall quality of the bulletin and also gave several suggestions for increasing the usefulness of the bulletin.

The construction of Police Academy at Oonamanchery on 136 acres at a cost of Rs cr. is in progress. It would be possible to undertake training of the next batch of Sub inspectors at this Academy. Forensic Science Lab building at Chennai The construction of Forensic Science Lab building is in progress. It is a multistoried RCC framed structure with a total plinth area of 61718sqft. Special features would include granite top examination tables, suitable floor finish to resist aggressive environment, adequate shelves to store specimens,chemicals, sensitive equipments etc., that are essential in this type of building. Additional electrical lightings and special arrangements to create ambient environment for testing labs are also proposed. The cost of this project would be Rs lakhs. The new building will be in harmony with the architecture of the present heritage building. New office for the Commissioner of Police Greater Chennai. The construction of a new multistoreyed building for the Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai at a cost of Rs crores will be commenced after the survey reports are approved. The total builtup area would be 1,73,000 sqft in an extent of 5.5 acres land in Vepery, Chennai. EVOLUTION OF PC / HC QUARTERS The type design for PC / HC quarters has evolved during the past 25 years. The present type design includes several improvements such as increase in plinth area, better flooring, more storage space, use of tiles etc. in the toilets and kitchen to enhance the satisfaction level of the user. Besides the above, 161 PC / HC quarters on a total plinth area of sqft have been constructed at a cost of Rs lakhs. Construction of quarters for one Commandant, One Deputy Commandant, 4 Assistant Commandants, 8 Inspectors, 18 Sub Inspectors and 96 PC / HCs is in progress.the cost of these project would be Rs lakhs. In the course of our visits to the sites already handed over to the departments after completing the construction, we have observed that while at some places immense interest has been taken by the occupants to maintain the buildings and improve the environs with plants etc., at many places these aspects have been neglected. Since all buildings constructed by the TNPHC such as offices and residences are permanent assets of the Police, Prisons and Fire Services departments, as the case may be, it is urged that senior officers take personal interest in the proper maintenance and upkeep of the buildings. They may consider instituting awards for the best maintained office, residential complex etc to stimulate competition for excellence in upkeep of the premises. The TNPHC on its part will publish photographs of the well-maintained complexes in this bulletin and also extend all other help whenever required for the better maintenance of the buildings.
