2 STEPPING INTO LEADERSHIP in Financial Sector (-1) July, October & January PROGRAM OBJECTIVE Transforming Executives into New Leaders is a set of three executive programs designed to meet the developmental needs of leaders at new, middle and senior levels of financial organizations. Stepping into Leadership (-1), the first program in this set, is designed to help executives make a successful transition to the managerial ranks while also honing their leadership potential. This program focuses on executives most critical development areas and is based on a simple learning approach Learn-Practice-Apply. Through a customized interpretation for financial sector executives, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment tool deployed in this program further enables participants to gain insight into their own personality and that of others, which they can leverage to build great teams. CURRICULUM Built on a comprehensive framework of faculty presentations, group exercises and case studies, this program examines the many ways of stepping up to leadership through the following modules: Module 1: Managing Yourself Developing Personal Adaptability Accelerated Talent Development Writing and Presentation Skills Stress Management Module 2: Managing Others Understanding Personality Personality Types (MBTI) and Their Interplay Leveraging Personality Types for Team Building Action Plan for Great Team Productivity Module 3: Transitioning to Leadership Developing a Leader Mind-set Competencies which Complement Leadership Roles Styles of Leadership That Work Better Negotiation Skills PARTICIPANT MIX This program is designed for frontline managers and officers across diverse areas, having hands-on responsibilities of specific functions. The participants representing a broad range of institutions, including commercial banks, financial institutions, cooperative banks and regional rural banks, will bring in unique practical perspectives which will complement classroom learning. NOMINATIONS Frontline Managers and Officers. Self-nominations are not accepted. Participants need to be sponsored by their employers. Acceptance of nominations is selective and is based on functional responsibility and relevance. Prior participation in other programs is not a pre-requisite. 3 HIGH P PERFORMANCE LEADERSHIP in Financial Sector (-2) August, October & April PROGRAM OBJECTIVE Transforming Good Managers into Effective Leaders. As the workplace environments become more and more complex, leadership skills become increasingly essential. Mid-level managers are profoundly affected by the forces of uncertainty in the economic environment and changes in organizational strategy. At a time when they are the driving force behind new initiatives and serve as the glue that holds multiple teams together, they must also cope with the still changing world. This dynamic world requires a new approach and mind-set. High Performance Leadership (2) is the second of the -123 set of executive programs designed to meet the developmental needs of leaders at middle and senior levels of financial organizations. This program helps transform mid-level managers into more effective leaders. Based on the research and works of top authors and practitioners, the program stresses the three imperatives every manager must follow to be successful and effective: manage your environment, manage your network, and manage your teams. CURRICULUM Built on a comprehensive framework of faculty presentations, group exercises and case studies, this program focuses on the following modules: Module 1: Macro Perspectives The Economic and Banking Policy Environment Financial Regulation and Risk Management Framework Module 2: Strategic Management Customer Focus; Behavioural Decision Theories Innovation and Technology as Levers Strategic Thinking; Strategy Execution Module 3: Managing Teams and Networks Partnering with Your Boss; Networking Building and Nurturing Team Culture Module 4: Strategic Negotiations Negotiation; Conflict Resolution; Persuasion Module 5: Enabling Leadership Knowing Self; Influence and Trust; Delegating Developing Employees; Coaching and Feedback PARTICIPANT MIX This program is positioned at a take-off level. Prospective participants are typically managers of large branches and function heads, who have demonstrated competence, leadership qualities and potential for growth to higher positions. The participant mix representing a broad range of institutions commercial banks, financial institutions, cooperative banks and regional rural banks usually brings in unique practical perspectives that complement classroom learning. 4 LEADERSHIP in Financial Sector (-3) IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY September, February & June PROGRAM OBJECTIVE Helping high performing managers/leaders in transitioning to the next orbit. Today s world is ever changing. Such times of uncertainty call for multi-faceted leaders who can diagnose situations, spot emerging opportunities and navigate through the dynamic environment. Business leaders must be able to prepare their organizations for sustained competitive advantage, as also align corporate strategy with execution. With an in-depth understanding of the forces impacting the financial world, participants of this program will emerge better equipped to maximize their organizations unique advantages and ensure their success over the long-term. Based on the research and works of top authors and practitioners, this program builds perspectives and connects managers and leaders in your organization with a diverse group of peers and leading industry experts who share experiences, insights, and best practices. CURRICULUM Built on a comprehensive framework of faculty presentations, group exercises and case studies, this program seeks to provide a framework of leadership required in these times of uncertainty: Module 1: Macro Perspectives Acquire a deeper understanding of the global financial architecture, macro-financial policy framework and the macroeconomic environment. Risk Culture in Financial Organizations. Module 2: Leading in an Inter-Connected World With the world getting increasingly intertwined and uncertain, can Systems Thinking show us a way? When competition is ever so intense, what does one do with one s ethics and values? Can decision theories help us deal with uncertainty? Module 3: Empowering Leadership Understand how people leverage their knowledge of self to lead, influence and trust. Contemplate the latest thoughts on leadership. Enhance your leadership presence. Module 4: Strategic Management Discover how the competitive forces are morphing. Discuss how technology, innovation, and positioning are used as powerful tools for dealing with competition. If customer psychology is at the heart of strategy, learn how Design Thinking can help translate your knowledge into action. Module 5: Strategic Negotiations Delve into your organization s specific behavioral challenges be it unyielding negotiations or difficult conversations and develop solutions for these in dedicated breakout sessions. PARTICIPANT MIX Leadership in Times of Uncertainty (3) is the final program in the -123 set of executive programs. This program is positioned at a tactical level and is meant for Regional/ Zonal/ Cluster Heads and high potential executives from the financial sector, who have demonstrated competence, leadership mindset and potential for growth to higher leadership positions. Participants typically represent a broad mix of institutions commercial banks, financial institutions, cooperative banks and regional rural banks and bring in unique practical perspectives which complement the classroom learning for the group. 5 LEAD FACULTY H. N. Panda, a General Manager from RBI, is the founder Coordinator of the Leadership in Financial Sector () Channel of CAB. He also serves as the Academic Coordinator for the College. Immediately preceding this assignment he served as Officer-in-Charge of RBI s Jharkhand regional office at Ranchi. He specializes in the areas of financial sector leadership, strategy and design thinking. Beginning his banking career in 1987, as a Probationary Officer with State Bank of India, he moved to RBI in early 1990, where he has served in many departments and offices including the central office at Mumbai. He has more than 25 years of experience in policy formulation and advocacy in the areas of financial inclusion and rural credit. He holds a B.Sc. Degree in Agricultural Sciences and a Masters in Agricultural Economics, both from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology. He is also an alumnus of the Asian Institute of Management at Manila, Philippines and has exposure to executive education programs at top business schools like Stanford Graduate School of Business, California, USA and the Berlin & Paris Campuses of ESCP Business School. S Mugunthan ( [email protected]) is a Deputy General Manager from RBI and currently serving as a Member of Faculty at the College of Agricultural Banking, RBI, Pune. He specializes in conducting Assessment / Development Centers and handles sessions on Human Resources Optimization, Leadership styles and exercising Adaptive Leadership. Previously, he has worked in the area of Information Systems Audit, Rural Credit and Payment Systems. Mugunthan holds a PG Diploma in Rural Management from Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), an MPA from Harvard University s J F Kennedy School of Government and a Chevening Gurukul Fellowship in Globalisation and Leadership from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is also a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). In addition, he is certified in WorkPlace Big Five Profile 4.0 by Center for Applied Cognitive Studies - Charlotte, NC USA and a qualified and accredited administrator of Myer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI Type I & II) instrument by CPP Asia Pacific. In 2011, Asia Society named him one among the 150 next generation leaders from 30 countries in the Asia Pacific Region. Mukesh Kumar ( [email protected]) is a Deputy General Manager from RBI and currently serving as a Member of Faculty at the College of Agricultural Banking, RBI, Pune. He specializes in handling sessions on Human Resource Optimization, Management and Leadership, Situational Leadership, Effective Communication, Team Building, Training and Development, Faculty Development Program and Stress Management. Previously, he has worked in the area of Currency Management and Supervision of banks and Non-Banking Financial Companies in Mumbai Office of RBI. He holds an MBA in Human Resource Management. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB), a Certified Bank Trainer (CBT) from IIBF, Mumbai and a Diploma holder in Treasury, Investment and Risk Management from Indian Institute of Banking & Finance, Mumbai in which he scored highest aggregate marks all over India. In addition, he is a Certified Behavioral Event Interviewer (BEI), Certified in WorkPlace Big Five Profile 4.0 by Center for Applied Cognitive Studies - Charlotte, NC USA, Qualified and accredited administrator of Myer- Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI Type I & II) instrument by CPP Asia Pacific and a trained assessor in Assessment and Development Centre conducted by CAB Pune. Panda, Chief General Manager and Principal of College of Agricultural Banking, holds a masters degree in Financial and Commercial Regulation from London School of Economics. He also holds a bachelors degree in Law and masters degree in Political Science with specialization in International Law and International Relations from Utkal University. In the Reserve Bank of India he has close to 20 years of experience in banking supervision. Till recently he was working with International Monetary Fund as a Resident Advisor guiding central banks of 13 south African countries on how to reform and strengthen their financial sector supervision. Earlier, he worked as Regional Director for Madhya Pradesh & Chhatisgarh where he led RBI initiatives on financial inclusion and financial literacy. Presently, he leads CAB s initiatives for building capacity for financial inclusion, cooperative banking, agri-lending and MSME lending etc. THE CAB ADVANTAGE This is where India s top financial minds meet and share their domain knowledge and expertise.
