2 DESCRIPTION PMI s BET-Srptmeter is fully autmated, vlumetric gas srptin analyzer t measure accurately adsrptin and desrptin istherms fr the characterizatin f surface area, pre size distributin, pre vlume and pre structure f micr and mesprus materials as well as the kinetics f adsrptin. APPLICATION PMI s BET Srptmeter has a multitude f applicatins in industries wrldwide. Sme applicable industries include Autmtive Industry Battery/Fuel Cells Industry Ceramic Industry Chemical Industry Filtratin Industry Paper Industry Pharmaceutical/Medical Industry Pwder Metallurgy Industry And many mre PRINCIPLE When clean surface is expsed t a gas, an adsrbed film frms n the surface. Adsrbed films als frm n the surface f pres within a material and vapr can cndense in the pres. At a cnstant temperature, the amunt f adsrbed/cndensed gas n a surface depends n the pressure f the gas. Measurement f the amunt f adsrptin/cndensatin as a functin f pressure can give infrmatin n the pre structure. The PMI Srptmeters use gas adsrptin/cndensatin t analyze pre characteristics. Further, measurement f pressure as a functin f time prvides the kinetics infrmatin f adsrptin.

3 PHYSICAL ADSORPTION Weak van der Waal s type interactin f mlecules with a pre surface leads t physical adsrptin. The Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) thery f physical adsrptin is nrmally used fr analysis f adsrptin data t cmpute surface area. 4 VAPOR CONDENSATION As the relative vapr pressure (P/P) increases, vapr eventually cndenses in the pres utilizing the surface free energy available due t replacement f the slid/vapr interface by slid/liquid interface. The amunt f vapr cndensed in pres gives the pre vlume, and the Kelvin equatin gives the pre diameter. A cmplete adsrptin istherm is determined by measuring the amunt f vapr adsrbed as a functin f increasing pressure. A desrptin istherm is determined by measuring the amunt f adsrptin as a functin f decreasing pressure. Based n this technique, characteristics f materials related t adsrptin, desrptin, surface area and pre vlume can be determined. PORE VOLUME & PORE DIAMETER Pre vlume, pre diameter and pre vlume distributin can be determined accurately by the PMI BET Srptmeter. 5 ADSORPTION & DESORPTION ISOTHERM Adsrptin and desrptin f gasses n samples can be accurately measured using ur BET Srptmeter. The user has independent cntrl ver the quantity and spacing f pressures used in bth adsrptin and desrptin testing. Many different kinds f analyses are available t interpret data using the supplied reprt generatin sftware.
