1 Page: 1 of 7 To configure TCP/IP parameters from the control panel, use the following instructions: HP LaserJet 2300, 2400, 4200, 4250, 4300, 4350, 9000, 9050 and Color LaserJet 4600, 4650, 5500, 5550 & 9500 printers 1. Print out a configuration page before undertaking this procedure. Retain the EIO/Network/JetDirect Configuration Page (usually the 2nd page). This page contains the settings you will need to enter to complete this procedure. If you are unable to print a configuration page, consult with your network administrator to obtain these settings before proceeding. 2. Turn the printer off. Install the new JetDirect card and connect the network cable. 3. Turn the power on and wait for the printer to reach the READY or ONLINE state. 4. Press. 5. Press or and scroll to 'CONFIGURE DEVICE'. Press. 6. Press or and scroll to 'I/O'. Press. 7. Press or and scroll to 'EIO 1, 2, OR 3' (if installed) or 'EMBEDDED JETDIRECT'. Press. 8. Press or and scroll to 'TCP/IP'. Press. 9. Press or and scroll to 'CONFIG METHOD'. Press. 10. Press or and scroll to 'MANUAL'. Press. 11. Press or and scroll to 'MANUAL SETTINGS'. Press.

On LaserJets 9000/9050/9500 you may use the numerical keypad to enter these values. 14. Press. Repeat Steps 13 and 14 for the second, third, and fourth octets. 15. Press or and scroll to 'SUBNET MASK'. Press. 16. Enter the first octet of the Subnet Mask using and buttons. 17. Press. Repeat Steps 16 and 17 for the second, third, and fourth octets. 18. Press or and scroll to 'DEFAULT GATEWAY'. Press. 19. Enter the first octet of the Default Gateway using and buttons. 20. Press. Repeat Steps 19 and 20 for the second, third, and fourth octets. 21. If required, press or and scroll to and configure 'SYSLOG SERVER' and 'IDLE TIMEOUT' using the same method. 22. When finished configuring, press repeatedly to return to the main menu.

Press MENU until 'HP MIO 1' (or 2), or 'HP EIO 1' (or 2 or 3) appears. 5. Press ITEM until 'CFG NETWORK = NO' appears. 6. Press PLUS or VALUE until 'CFG NETWORK = YES' appears. NOTE: The CFG NETWORK = XXX (XXX being YES or NO) is a toggle, not a permanent setting. Changing it to YES allows the settings to be changed at that time. It will appear as CFG NETWORK = NO each time this menu is accessed. 7. Press SELECT or RESUME. 8. Press ITEM until 'CFG TCP/IP = NO' appears. 9. Press PLUS or VALUE until 'CFG TCP/IP = YES' appears. NOTE: The CFG TCP/IP = XXX (XXX being YES or NO) is a toggle, not a permanent setting. Changing it to YES allows the settings to be changed at that time. It will appear as CFG TCP/IP = NO each time this menu is accessed.
4 Page: 4 of Press SELECT or RESUME. 11. Press ITEM until 'BOOTP = YES*' appears. 12. Press PLUS or VALUE until 'BOOTP = NO' appears. NOTE: When using BootP or DHCP, keep the setting BOOTP = YES *. The BootP or DHCP server will configure the TCP/IP parameters on the HP JetDirect. No other TCP/IP configuring is necessary. 13. Press SELECT or RESUME. The following three steps apply to the HP JetDirect 610n cards only: a. 'DHCP=YES' appears. b. Press PLUS or VALUE until 'DHCP = NO' appears. c. Press SELECT or RESUME. NOTE: When using DHCP, keep the setting DHCP = YES *. The DHCP server will configure the TCP/IP parameters on the HP Jetdirect. No other TCP/IP configuring is necessary. 14. Press ITEM until 'IP BYTE 1 = (value*)' appears. 15. Press PLUS or VALUE, until the desired value of the first byte of the IP address appears. By pressing and holding PLUS or VALUE, the value will scroll rapidly (HP LaserJet 4000, 5000, and 8000 printers have a MINUS button to decrease the value). 16. Press SELECT or RESUME to save the value. 17. Press ITEM to continue. Repeat Steps to configure the remaining bytes of the IP address.
5 Page: 5 of Repeat Steps to configure the subnet mask bytes ('SM BYTE 1='), syslog server IP address ('LG BYTE 1='), default gateway ('GW BYTE 1='), and timeout ('TIMEOUT='). 19. Press ONLINE, GO or MENU. Print a self-test page to verify the IP settings. 20. If the test page does not show the correct settings, power cycle the printer and reprint the test page.

If you are unable to print a configuration page, consult with your network administrator to obtain these settings before proceeding. 2. Turn the printer off. Install the new JetDirect card and connect the network cable. 3. Turn the power on and wait for the printer to reach the READY or ONLINE state. 4. Press MENU, until one of the following messages appears on the control panel: HP LaserJet printer type HP LaserJet 4 and 4m printers HP LaserJet 4 Plus, 4m Plus, 4v, 4mv Control panel message AUX IO MENU MIO MENU HP LaserJet 5/5n/5m and the original Color LaserJet HP MIO MENU HP LaserJet 4Si/4Si MX MIO MENU 1 or MIO MENU 2 5. Press ITEM. 'CFG NETWORK=NO*' will appear. 6. Press PLUS once. 'CFG NETWORK=YES*' will appear.
7 Page: 7 of 7 7. Press ENTER or SELECT. 8. Press ITEM until 'CFG TCP/IP=NO*' appears. 9. Press PLUS. 'CFG TCP/IP=YES*' will appear. 10. Press ENTER or SELECT. 11. Press ITEM until 'BOOTP=YES*' appears. 12. Press PLUS. 'BOOTP=NO' will appear. o When using BootP or DHCP, keep the setting BOOTP=YES*. o The BootP or DHCP server will configure the TCP/IP parameters on the HP JetDirect. o No other TCP/IP configuring is necessary. 13. Press ENTER or SELECT. 14. Press ITEM. 'IP BYTE 1 = (value)' will appear. 15. Press PLUS until the value of the first byte of the IP address appears on the control-panel display. By pressing SHIFT and PLUS, the value will decrease. 16. Press ENTER or SELECT. 17. Press ITEM to continue. Repeat Steps to configure the remaining bytes of the IP address. 18. Repeat Steps to configure the subnet mask bytes ('SM BYTE 1='), syslog server IP address ('LG BYTE 1='), default gateway ('GW BYTE 1='), and timeout ('TIMEOUT='). 19. Press ONLINE.
