1 enervista UR Setup Software Quick Connect Instructions: The user can connect to the UR relay via front serial port or rear Ethernet port using the Quick Connect feature of enervista UR Setup software. When communicating via Ethernet, the following steps are required in Getting Connected to the UR relay: 1. Set or determine UR relay IP address. 2. Assign Laptop an IP address. Communicating with UR Relay using Front RS232 Port Launch enervista UR Setup software (version 3.31 and above). A. Use a straight 9pin-to-9pin RS232 cable to the front port of the UR relay to laptop computer. B. Click on and the following window opens: C. Select the correct COM Port and then select Connect. A site named Quick Connect with device named Quick Connect will be built on the upper left corner window of enervista UR Setup software. Expand the sections to view data directly from the UR relay. D. Each time you start enervista UR Setup software press the Quick Connect button to establish direct communications to the UR relay. This ensures that configuration of enervista UR Setup software matches the UR relay model number. 1
2 Communicating with UR Relay using Rear Ethernet Port Launch enervista UR Setup software (version 3.31 and above). A. Use Ethernet cross-over cable from rear Ethernet port of UR relay to laptop computer. B. Click on and the following window opens: C. When selecting Ethernet interface, please follow the instructions in sections entitled UR Relay s IP Address & Assign Laptop an IP Address (WinXP). D. You will also have to disable proxy settings within Internet Explorer software when directly connecting to UR relay using Ethernet cross-over cable. E. To disable Internet Explorer proxy settings, run Internet Explorer and from pull down menus across the top click Tools choose Internet Options. Select the Connections tab and then select the LAN Settings button. The following screen will appear: F. Make sure the box for Proxy server is not checked. 2
3 G. If you use this computer to connect to the Internet, re-enable any proxy server settings after you are finished Ethernet communications with the UR relay. H. Select Ethernet for Interface and then select Connect. A site named Quick Connect with device named Quick Connect will be built on the upper left corner window of enervista UR Setup software. Expand the sections to view data directly from the UR relay. I. Each time you start enervista UR Setup software press the Quick Connect button to establish direct communications to the UR relay. This ensures that configuration of enervista UR Setup software matches the UR relay model number. J. After you are finished communicating to the UR relay via Ethernet, make sure to go back to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings of Local Area Connection on your Laptop and set to Obtain an IP address automatically 3
4 UR Relay s IP Address The IP address can be found & set using the following keystrokes on the front panel of the UR relay. A. Press to display >>SETTINGS PRODUCT SETUP : B. Enter >>PRODUCT SETUP using the key: C. Press until the following screen is displayed: D. Press once then until the following screen is displayed: E. Press once and the UR relay IP address will be displayed as follows: F. Enter the following IP Address using the keypad: and then select ENT key. G. Press until the Subnet IP Mask is displayed. Change the address to using the keypad and select ENT key. 4
5 Assign Laptop an IP Address (WinXP) Follow the below steps to assign your Laptop an IP address that will be compatible with the UR relay s IP address: A. Connect Ethernet cross-over cable between Laptop and UR relay B. From the Windows desktop, right mouse click on My Network Places and select Properties A network connections window will open, such as below: C. Right-click the network connection named Local Area Connection, and then left-click Properties. D. On the General tab, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then select Properties. 5

Use the following IP address: o Enter an IP address with the first three numbers the same as the IP address of the UR relay with the last number being different & a Subnet mask equal to that of the UR relay. o For our example above, the following IP addresses will be acceptable: to except (since this is the address of UR relay in this example) o Enter the Subnet mask as
7 For example, let s use a laptop address of Click OK E. Next open the Command Interpreter by clicking Start, choose Programs then Accessories and Command Prompt. You can also go to Start, Run and type cmd and hit enter key. The following opens: 7
8 F. Type ping and press Enter. You are verifying connection to the UR relay by pinging the UR relay s IP address. Successful connection if the following appears: Reply from (relay IP address): bytes=32 time=xxms TTL=yyy Reply from (relay IP address): bytes=32 time=xxms TTL=yyy Reply from (relay IP address): bytes=32 time=xxms TTL=yyy Reply from (relay IP address): bytes=32 time=xxms TTL=yyy The following may appear for an unsuccessful connection: Request timed out. or Hardware error. Request timed out. or Hardware error. Request timed out. or Hardware error. Request timed out. or Hardware error. What to do: Verify connection between Laptop and UR relay, i.e. check that cable is properly connected and link has been established and ensure proper cable type (cross-over). Also double check UR Relay IP address. Repeat step F Or the following may appear for an unsuccessful connection: Destination host unreachable. Destination host unreachable. Destination host unreachable. 8
9 Destination host unreachable. What to do: Verify the address of the laptop computer, you can run Command Prompt and type ipconfig and Enter to verify that your laptop s address has been changed. Sometimes you have to restart your computer for the IP address to take effect (Win NT or Win 98 operating systems). For example: Close all windows and restart section Assign Laptop an IP Address (WinXP). 9
