Normal working hours are Monday-Friday , with 1 hour for lunch. Working outside of these hours is likely to be required in certain circumstances. This is a very exciting time for us and we are looking for the right person to join us on our journey and play a real and significant part in moving us closer to achieving our vision creating a future where lasting work is a reality for those affected by homelessness.
2 Background to our organisation The House of St Barnabas (HoSB) is a charity and social enterprise which provides training, support and employment opportunities to help people who have experienced homelessness to rebuild their lives. HoSB operates an integrated Employment Academy, offering an employment preparation programme and accredited training (City & Guilds), within its notfor-profit private members' club. Both the Academy and the club are located at 1 Greek Street, Soho, which has been the home of the charity for over 150 years. This integrated model allows its participants the opportunity to gain work experience within the social business. The work experience opportunities, together with onsite and external training, are invaluable for the people going through the programme. To date over 60% of graduates have moved into paid employment or further education. The House of St Barnabas Employment Academy An academy to part the paths that leads the way to a brighter day a better future John Smallshaw Academy graduate The House of St Barnabas Employment Academy (EA) provides a supportive, nurturing environment honing each individual s skills and talent with a concentrated focus on individuals moving in to paid, secure employment in order to break the cycle of homelessness. The Academy provides a staged method of support to give people the best opportunity to learn new skills, regain their confidence and make their CV current and competitive in the current labour market in order to attain paid employment. Once in employment we continue to provide support to ensure this employment is sustained and progression occurs within the job role or wage structure.
3 The Academy works with clients referred from partner organisations within the homelessness sector. Recruitment requirements for clients are as follows:- To feel ready and committed to make change in their lives To feel ready to return to work. To have low support needs o To be free from substance misuse o To have an adequate comprehension of the English language (written and spoken) o To be of sound health o To be in secure (even if temporary) housing To have the right to work in the UK To be post 18 years of age (we do not set an upper limit) The Academy provides the following programmes of support:- A 12-week Employment Preparation Programme (EPP) incorporating:- o Personal effectiveness training o 121 coaching support o Work experience in the club at The House of St Barnabas o Hospitality focussed skills training o Employment focused skills training o A range of cultural opportunities o City and Guilds qualifications Level 1 Award in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry Level 1 Award in Employability and Personal Development A Mentoring Programme for individuals who have completed the programme o One-to-one coaching/mentoring sessions for up to 12 months to support individuals in attaining and sustaining employment and negotiating wage progression Employer Partners o A range of employer partners who will recruit through from our pool of programme graduates o Advocating London Living Wage for HoSB Alumni by 2015/16 o The opportunity to access paid employment opportunities within the club at The House of St Barnabas. Post-Programme Support o A peer-led alumni support programme including a series of events to inspire and support alumni o Access to relevant educational opportunities o Access to training opportunities o Drop-in sessions at the Academy to use IT systems and access support or signposting o A bursary scheme to further employment opportunities o A housing deposit loan scheme by 2015 o The opportunity to become a mentor "It is very rare as a Jobcentre Plus Employment Adviser to find a programme that delivers what it promises. 4 The club at the House of St Barnabas Enter the House of St Barnabas - A public-minded private members club in London is demolishing stereotypes Dazed and confused The club at The House of St Barnabas helps to change lives. It s a unique community of social pioneers, drawn together inside a beautiful Grade 1 listed house in the heart of Soho. Working in partnership with Benugo, our hospitality partner, we have created a truly inspiring environment that is home to a growing membership that is dedicated to social change.
5 Role outline You will be a part of a socially dynamic movement that will drive sustained employment amongst the homeless. This an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant and passionate team within a fabulous Grade I listed building in the heart of Soho. This newly created role will engage at a senior level with corporate members and partner organisations to HoSB, both existing and new, thereby increasing and fully realising potential income streams to the charity. Responsibilities Direct line reporting to the Commercial Director Achieving income from corporate relationships of 500k per year (membership & partnership income) Identifying and executing brand partnership and sponsorship opportunities for the club and the charity both within and external to the corporate membership base Growing the corporate membership of the club at HoSB by 50% in 2015 and 50% in 2016 Achieving annual renewal rates for existing corporate members of 80% Being the first point of contact for the club at HoSB s corporate members Developing strong relationships with existing and new corporate members Developing, setting and delivering account development plans for corporate partners Identifying and executing new corporate relationships from events held at the House and beyond Increasing average club spends per corporate member Ensuring the make up of the corporate membership always reflects the ethos and values of the club at HoSB Representing the organisation at events, giving presentations where appropriate Working closely with the Membership Team regarding corporate membership administration Working closely with the Private Hire Team regarding corporate members inhouse events Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other HoSB departments, senior influencers, current and prospective members, affiliates, volunteers and committees Actively contributing to the organisation s budgeting and forecasting process
