2 Edutus College - College for Modern Studies - for the service of regional competitiveness The Edutus College is a new, dynamically developing higher educational Eco Institution playing a significant role in the field of higher education and scientific activities of the region, due to its unique and complex assortment of courses, high level of practice orientation, 21th century infrastructure and modern approach, increasing number of students, bustling student life and professional educational, R&D and consultation services. In addition to its basic activities, taking on more responsibility and meeting the demand for training in the region is listed as one of the major goals in the institution s development plans. The College itself is an inspiration for investors and for launching research and development projects, therefore it actually makes the city and its surroundings a regional development centre. The primary goal of Edutus College (Edutus) is to reinforce its position as a knowledge center by establishing stronger ties with the business sector and creating new ways for cooperation in order to facilitate the competitiveness of the region through its services.

3 The Edutus College (former College for Modern Business Studies) has a successful history of nearly two decades and has been playing a special part in the Hungarian higher education system. To survive as a private college for such a long time in a dynamic country like Hungary is remarkable in itself, however, the success is possible due to its ability to reform. The College was able to renew its training programs in conformation with the modernization of the higher education system while keeping up with the market demands. This is still an ongoing process. The merger of János Harsányi College made it possible for us to offer a new and popular program: the tourism and catering course. It is important to note that our Technical Manager BSc training has been launched successfully, and that a new Mechatronics BSc training program will be announced this year. We have an ongoing project of establishing a research laboratory based on laser technology that has great importance internationally. The innovations and the expansion resulted in a decision of changing the name of the College. Maintaining respectability, the Edutus College is characterized by modernity and responsibility. Our training structure, curricula, training methods and research projects are up-to-date; and we are building responsible relationships in our external and internal environment, with our partners and everyone we are in contact with. 6 Sustainable Development Strategy The establishment of alternative energy production and management in Tatabánya and in the region provides a great opportunity for the Hungarian companies to develop new technologies, create new jobs and offer better living conditions a more climate friendly environment is able to provide. Our latest development is the Renewable Energy Workshop that provides proper conditions for researching, teaching and promoting the possibilities of sun, wind, geothermal and biomass energy production and management. The Workshop was established in January 2010, in order to perform various tasks in the areas of education, dissemination, adult education, research and development. The College plays a significant role in the joint research and development activities between Edutus College and Hungarian companies such as working together with the Élő Energia Kft. and Auróra 2003 Kft. on the design of equipments utilizing the energy of the sun and the wind. These projects are significant in making the concept of Tatabánya a climate-friendly city a reality. In our alternative energy production and management training programs, students such as the Assistant Energy Engineer students can participate in the measurement, processing and evaluation of the heat generation and energy production data of the Solar parabola and the vertical axis wind turbine, and the photovoltaic solar panels placed on the top of the building. Further developments are in progress for establishing new training programs and four new, modern alternative energy laboratories. For the purpose of promoting the ongoing developmental projects and the environmentally-conscious lifestyle, the Edutus College has started the Sustainable Consumption Club. Its basic goal is to represent the eco-strategy of Edutus. Topics that are related to the strategies of the College and that are helpful for creating a better urban environment are discussed at meetings of the club. Thereby the College becomes an integral part of the regional cooperation aimed at improving conditions in the environment.

9 Training programs in English International Business Economics (BA) The objective of this training program: to train business professionals who can negotiate in foreign languages, understand communication in the immediate and broader environment and the internal operations of the enterprise, and are familiar with the activities of large multinational companies and their small and medium-sized suppliers. The immediate environment is the unified market of the European Community, while the broader environment refers to the global economy. The knowledge acquired during the training program makes the students capable of interpreting and analysing the micro and macro level business environment and the regulations of business activities, and they are able to adapt themselves to these conditions. This makes them capable of contributing to the development of business strategies and applying these strategies in the selected areas. The practical courses prepare each student for the application of their professional knowledge. The training gives them certain skills that make them able to adapt quickly and efficiently to unusual cultural and business environments, and help them make decisions. Students can use this training in large domestic and multinational companies and in international business transactions of small and medium-sized enterprises. 10 Preparatory BA Business Studies for Foreigners The College offers a preparatory course that develops English language skills and other professional abilities. It s aimed at students who already have a secondary school diploma or a certificate equivalent to that The programme is for students who wish to pursue BA Business Studies, but need to improve their English skills and professional knowledge to do so. The objectives of the preparatory programme are: 1. to develop English language skills, to be able to study business in English in BA training programmes recognized by the Hungarian state and the European Union; 2. to learn the basics of the business environment and the European Union, which are useful for specialization in international business administration; 3. to be admitted to a BA business training programme and 4. to study the Hungarian language and culture in order to study and live in Hungary. 12 lsi Information Technology Training Center ISI and the Edutus College contribute to each other training programs. The training programs and proficiency of ISI is available in the educational structure of Edutus. The Edutus (LSI) Information Technology Training Center Foundation for the Culture of the Application of Microelectronics was founded in 1979 by twenty Hungarian companies and industrial research institutes with the purpose of blazing the trail for the application of information technology in the field of education. The Edutus Training Center facilities contain huge building compound with an infrastructure that meets the standards essential for providing various services in the field of adult education. Higher education Institutions and universities can find here a professional training environment, of which the Center is the financial supporter. Besides providing language courses, training on informatics and communication, one can chose other types of professional training programs providing OKJ certificate, or even blended training in coordination with our Vietnamese partners, on subjects belonging to the science of informatics. Edutus ITTC has been applying information technology in the field of education for more than 25 years, with continuously expanding programs and unique services that are tailored specifically to meet the expectations of private and corporate clients. Its services include traditional classroom learning, E-learning, as well as content development. The Edutus ITTC is an accredited institution in adult education. Adult education Information technology training programs: ECDL courses and examinations Purpose of training: To gain computer literacy. Participants will gain greater computer awareness and skill, and will be competent in using common computer applications. After successful examination at the end of the training they will receive an international certificate. Information technology security manager Purpose of training: To train experts who are able to design, organize and control the information technology security system and its units of an organization, are able to solve the problematic areas and have basic knowledge on the theory and practice of organizing and management. High level network security administrator Purpose of training: Providing extensive training on cyber security on the most up-to-date topics. Introduction to Computers Purpose of training: To gain computer literacy; to meet the expectations of the world of information technology, to make individuals skilled in navigating the personal computer, to make them able to find the data on the Internet. How to use Microsoft and Open Office at work Purpose of training: to gain computer literacy in order to make work more effective.

14 2. Language training General language training: Our method is focused on communication. We find it important that our students are able to use the language they learn at work as well as in everyday life. There is a placement test before the start of the course and based on the result we find the group for the student that fits the best. The language of education in the Training Center is English and German, and we teach Hungarian as a foreign language as well. The courses are according to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. We organize preparatory courses for language exam as well as accredited language examinations. Due to the number of teachers at our disposal, we are able to meet the individual needs of our clients. Specialized language training: We organize courses in general business English and German, as well as LEXINFO language training on information technology.

15 Online language training: In our training center besides traditional classroom learning and off-site business classes - we organize online language courses on all levels as well (from beginner to advanced). Online training takes place in a virtual classroom with the help of E-books, no matter when and where the student is located. Each lessons in an interactive study package that consists of exercises aimed at developing certain language skills.
