3 Abbondanza 2017 (Pronounced abbon danza) (N) abundance, richness, plenty, profusion, wealth Saturday, April 29 th 6:00PM In Italy, when it comes to food, abbondanza is the rule. Una Sera Italiana 2017 is an evening of abbondanza. Wine and spirits will be plentiful, antipasti will be bountiful, a richness of Italian cheeses that will melt in your mouth and abundance of Italian delicacies from Wild Boar to seafood risotto to many of the traditional favorites. Save room for the delectable Club-made dolces (sweets); because there will be an abundance of them as well. Italian musicians will serenade you at your table and encourage you to sing along. Don t forget your dancing shoes because after dinner, there is dancing in the Grille. Last year s Italian Night was at a near capacity crowd and we are only 6 weeks away from April 29 th so please make your reservations early. The Haven House was founded in 1979 by the Coalition for Victims of Domestic Violence (now known as the Erie County Coalition Against Family Violence). For over 35 years, Haven House has been working to prevent domestic violence/intimate partner violence and promote peace in the home. Please Welcome to the Wanakah Staff Jesse Adams III Congratulations Please join us in congratulating Dr. Michael Rade who is this years recipient of the Buffalo Surgical Society s Roswell Park Medal. Established in 1947 this medal honoring Doctor Roswell Park, Master surgeon, scientist and pioneer in surgical research, is awarded annually to a recipient who, in the opinion of the membership has contributed significantly to the art and science of surgery. Previous recipients include nationally known surgeons such as Michael DeBakey, Denton Cooley, Delos Cosgrove, Thomas Fogart, Lazar Greenfield and Thomas Starzl. We are honored to have Dr. Rade as a long time member and current member of our Board of Directors. Please welcome our new Assistant Manager, Jesse Adams III to the Wanakah family. Jesse is a Western New York native, and currently resides in West Seneca with his wife Emily and their three year old daughter Arianna. Jesse has a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Administration and a Masters in Career and Technical Training, both from Buffalo State. Jesse has experience as a Food and Beverage Director for two different area hotels. He opened up Big Ditch Brewing Company as their Assistant General Manager, and most recently worked at the Hyatt Place hotel as their Assistant General Manager. Jesse is somewhat familiar with Club Operations from his education, and was thrilled when the opportunity arose here at Wanakah. He will be overseeing all Service Staff and Dining Operations, the Beverage Program with Alex, the Locker Rooms, and working closely with Kevin with banquets and events. Hopefully you will get the opportunity to meet Jesse in the near future.

6 Golf Shop News: We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Wanakah as the weather turns and golf season approaches. In the next few months we will have some familiar apparel lines arriving such as FootJoy, Donald Ross, Zero Restriction, Travis Mathew, Adidas, Vineyard Vines, EP Pro, SanSoleil and Bermuda Sands to name a few. Maui Jim sunglasses, Signs by the Sea handmade accessories, Tervis Tumblers and Sterling Cut Glass stock will feature the traditional WCC logo or Indian head logo for your barware needs. We will be introducing new apparel lines such as Under Armour, Johnnie-O and Dunning as well as Italian wool dress slacks from Antas to go along with their custom leather belts. There will be more footwear options as we will be stocking FootJoy, Adidas, G/Fore and Travis Mathew shoes this season. We will also be offering a fifth equipment line in Callaway to go along with fitting systems and stock product from Titleist, TaylorMade, Ping and Cobra (including their new single length irons!) As a reminder, we do not charge club fitting fees when the clubs are purchased through the golf shop and we will always make certain that you are paying the same price for golf equipment and apparel in the golf shop as you would anywhere else (i.e. Edwin Watts, Dick s Sporting Goods, etc.). We will also be offering complimentary giftwrapping for your special occasions as well. Johnathan Snyder and Sam Frank will be returning to Wanakah as Assistant Golf Professionals in the spring. Johnathan is beginning his 10 th season at Wanakah and 4 th as an Assistant Golf Professional, while Sam will be returning for his second season after he completes his winter responsibilities at Grey Oaks Country Club, in Naples Florida. Lacey will also be returning for her second season and is looking forward to helping you with all of your golf shop related needs. We would all like to welcome our newest Assistant Golf Professional, Adam Ming. Adam is a native of Clarkston, Michigan and has a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Oakland University and an Associate's Degree in Golf Course Operations from the Golf Academy of America in Phoenix, Arizona. Adam worked as the second assistant professional at Fieldstone Golf Club in Auburn Hills, Michigan for two seasons and most recently at Atlas Valley Country Club in Grand Blanc for the past two seasons as their First Assistant Golf Professional. Adam will be joining us in early April. We hope that everyone had a great winter and we are looking forward to a great 2017 golf season at Wanakah Country Club. A huge request last year in club fittings and lessons was how do I get more spin around green or how do I get the ball to hit the green and stop without rolling off with full and partial wedge shots. Data from Titleist and Bob Vokey, the creator of their Vokey wedges shows that 50% of golfers use wedges that have been used for more than 75 rounds. Why is this important? The matches will be played from the Blue Tees and players will receive 100% of their course handicap. To qualify for the event, pick up a blank qualifying scorecard in the Golf Shop prior to play and return it when you are finished to register your qualifying score. The field will consist of the lowest 16 hole by hole net scores. Turning in a qualifying score does not mean that you are automatically in the event, if more than 16 people turn in qualifying scores the low 16 will be selected. You may attempt to qualify as many times as you would like. A list of the qualifiers and those who have been cut will be sent to the participants along with the bracket prior to the beginning of the Round of 16. Updated brackets will be sent out after each round. If a match is not completed by the deadline, the player on the first tee at 9:00am on the final date of the scheduled match is declared the winner of the match. In the event that neither player is on the first tee at that date, then both players will be disqualified. Weekend morning matches must take place after 9:00am. The first 54 teams will be prioritized based on the past six years of participation in the Comstock. The remaining 6 spots in the field will be filled by a lottery to reach a field of 60 teams. We will continue to draw names to determine the waitlist order until all names have been chosen. Any additional sign-ups after the drawing will be added to the end of the waitlist on a first come, first served basis. Tournament applications will be mailed to each Golfing Member prior to the registration date and an electronic PDF version of the application will be ed the morning of registration for your convenience. The field of 60 teams and the waitlist will be published to everyone that submitted an application on Sunday, April 16 th by 5:00pm. Cancellation Policy: If cancellation occurs within two weeks prior to the 1st day of the Marc Comstock Tournament, the member shall be responsible for the cost of the entry fee or be responsible for finding a replacement if there are no longer any teams on the waitlist. If there are still waitlisted teams, the next team in line will take your place.

9 Ladies Thursday Night League The Ladies Thursday Night League will be meeting on the first tee to begin play at 5:30pm on following dates: May 11 th, May 25 th, June 8 th, July 16 th, August 10 th and August 31 st Thursday Night League Free Clinic Info At 5:00pm before each event the golf professional staff will be conducting clinics please not the schedule below and where each class will be meeting. May 11 th Range: General full swing mechanics with all clubs May 25 th Short game area: Pitching, Chipping & Bunkers June 8 th Range: Long Drive Maximize driving distance with Trackman Launch Monitor July 16 th Putting green: Putting & green reading techniques August 10 th Range: Uneven lies, techniques for when the ball is above and below your feet and uphill and downhill lies. August 31 th Putting green: Chose your own adventure. Pros will be stationed at putting green, range and short game area for you to choose your own area to work on. We encourage everyone who is interested in participating to call ahead so that we are able to properly prepare for your arrival and have your bag ready on the first tee. A member of the golf professional staff will be creating groups and assisting with getting everyone on the golf course. We will be playing different formats each week and will go over the specifics of each format in detail before we begin play at 5:30pm. This is a great opportunity to meet new gofers and get a chance to enjoy the golf course in a fun, relaxed environment! All ladies are welcome and encouraged to continue the fun in the Grille Room or Patio after golf. PGA Junior League The PGA Junior League is back and is a great way for junior golfers age 8-13 of all abilities to get involved in golf and have fun in a relaxed, team-like environment. The PGA Junior League offers the opportunity for our juniors to play golf in a two-person team in a scramble format versus two players from another area club. The PGA Junior League teaches the value of how to work with others to achieve a common goal and the scramble format encourages teamwork and problem solving; which also keeps everyone engaged and having a great time. Please [email protected] to get your access code to sign-up your junior golfer. The deadline is April 15 th to ensure that our uniforms arrive in time for the first match on April 30 th. The cost is $150 per player, paid directly to the PGA Junior League. This fee gets you: a jersey, hat, backpack, golf balls, weekly practice with the PGA Pro s and pizza party at the end of the year. More Details to Follow in the May Newsletter Chairpersons: Jackie Wischerath & Sue Richardson New for 2017: Men s Ringers This is a season long, individual best ball event. The ringer board will be set up in 4 different classifications by handicap and you will record your name in the proper classification and fill in your best gross score on each hole. At the end of the competition, the person with lowest 18 hole score is the winner of their respective classification. This competition will begin on May 27 th and conclude on August 27 th, where the winners will be recognized at the club championship rewards presentation. 10 th Tee and Turn Etiquette If you are planning to stop and have food at the turn, we encourage you to call the clubhouse while on the eighth or ninth hole to place your order. Stopping to sit down for food will forfeit your position on the tenth tee until it is open and there is room for you to tee off without affecting groups behind you. Starting your round on the tenth tee is only permitted with approval from the Golf Shop and if the ninth hole is clear of other golfers and Golf Course Maintenance is far enough ahead of you. Starting on the tenth tee does not guarantee that you will be able to seamlessly make the turn to hole number one. We will do our best to accommodate you but cannot guarantee a zero wait because we do not have tee times. Please remember to keep pace with the group in front of you and contact the golf shop if you have concerns regarding pace of play during your round. Thank You!

10 General Membership Meeting - Wednesday April 26th, 7:00pm The club s annual business meeting will be held Wednesday, April 26th at 7:00pm. Our board will present the 2016 audited financial statement, report on the status of our membership, and entertain general discussion. All members are welcome; however, according to the constitution, only general members may vote. Kentucky Derby Patio Large Screen Bourbon & Beer Dinner May 6th 5:30 7:30pm Come join us at the club to celebrate as we honor age old tradition of The Run For the Roses streaming live on the Patio. We will feature hors d oeuvres, a variety of drink specials, and some bourbons to sip amongst friends. Chef Kolbas will feature a special Derby dinner paying homage to the traditions of this historic race. Please call the clubhouse to secure your dinner reservation after the race by calling :30pm-7:00pm - Hors d oeuvres, Dinner and Dessert $50 per person - Drink specials (by signature). Our Lake Erie Room, Board Room and various other sized rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi; we have audio/visual equipment. Food and beverage service is easily arranged. The access code to the golf course bathroom is 5161 Dining reservations are always encouraged. Golf Carts should be kept 30 feet away from all greens. Drive slowly and use caution when approaching the Golf Shop and Repair all ball marks and divots. New York State Law prohibits smoking indoors. You can check your bill and recent purchase activity at Wanakahcc.com from your phone or computer Staff Gratuity As you may have noticed on your January food and beverage bills there was not a 15% Admin Fee. Last year the board elected to eliminate that fee for all club events and member dining. This fee was replaced with an annual clubhouse fee. The more you use the club, the more you will save versus the old way. With that being said we want to remind you that hospitality is included with all services. The service staff at Wanakah are compensated at a higher rate than traditional service employees. However, if you feel that the service you received warrants additional gratuity, you have the option to add a tip in writing to your bill or give cash. Whether you leave additional gratuity or not will not impact your service and is completely optional only if you feel that you received exceptional service.
