If we told you during the survey that your Screenwise Data Collector should be hooked up by a professional: An installation representative will be contacting you to arrange a convenient time for installation. 2 Preparation: Essential Terms and Descriptions of Internet Equipment Before setting up your Screenwise Data Collector, it is essential that you familiarize yourself with the various terminology of Internet equipment. Modem A modem is a device that provides Internet connection via cable or DSL. Ethernet cable This is the most common type of cable used to directly connect a modem or router to a computer. 2

4 Setting Up Your Screenwise Data Collector Step 1. Disconnecting your modem from your computer Please do the following: Turn off your computer. Turn off your cable or DSL modem by unplugging its power cord. Locate the Ethernet cable that links your computer to the modem. Then disconnect the cable at the modem end only. Leave the other end plugged into your computer. If you have any additional computers or wired devices plugged into the modem, unplug them as well at the modem end. Step 2. Setting up the hardware Take the Screenwise Data Collector and its power cord out of the package. Then attach the power cord to the Screenwise Data Collector. Next, as shown in the picture below, insert the Ethernet cable from the modem into the Internet port (the yellow port) of the Screenwise Data Collector. Securely insert the Ethernet cable(s) from your computer(s) or wired device(s) that you unplugged in Step 1 into the Ethernet ports (blue ports) on the Screenwise Data Collector. Plug in the power cords of your modem, Screenwise Data Collector, and then turn on your computer(s). 1 2 Ethernet 3 4 Internet USB 4

5 Step 3. Accessing the Internet After Step 2, all of your computer(s) and device(s) should now be able to connect to the Internet. Test your Internet connection on your computer(s) by going to your Internet home page. Step 4: Registering your home computers and mobile devices After establishing the connection to the Internet, please launch a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari and on the Address Bar type in to sign in and register your computer/ device with the Screenwise Data Collector. This step will let the Data Collector remember your computer and allow it to recognize your computer when your computer connects to the network. Please do not register computer(s) or device(s) owned by your or other household members employer(s), and do not register any computer(s) or device(s) used exclusively by children below 13 years old. On the sign-in page, please follow the instructions to indicate the status of your computer/device as well as identify the device user. For device status: Select Multiple Users if the computer or device is used by more than one household member. Select Single User if the computer or device is used by only one person in your household. For user: The screen should already have a list of the names of your house hold members who have agreed to participate in the panel and are 13 years or older. Select the name of the device user(s) from the list. If there is anyone listed who has permanently left your household, or if there is a person (13 years old or above) who is a permanent resident participating in the panel and is missing from the list, please call as soon as possible. 6 Please repeat previous step to register all of your computer(s) and network device(s) that connect to the Internet at your home, except those owned by employer(s) or used exclusively by children under 13. Guest is present in the list for visitors using your Internet connection. Please do not use Guest while you are registering your devices. 6

7 Indicating Who is Using the Internet for Screenwise Panel Signing In The user sign-in page will appear periodically on your registered computer/device, at intervals depending on whether the device has one user or multiple users. This page is very similar to the registration page. For device status: Select Multiple Users if the computer or device is used by more than one household member. For Multiple User devices, the sign-in screen will appear anytime a user begins a browsing session, or when a browsing session has been idle for more than 5 minutes. Select Single User if the computer or device is used by only one person in your household. For Single User devices, the sign-in screen will appear every 7 days to re-confirm the device status and user of the device. For current user, select the name of the device user from the list. The screen should already have a list of the names of your household members participating in the panel who are 13 years old or older. If there is anyone listed who has permanently left your household, or if there is a person (13 years old or older) who is a permanent resident participating in the panel and is missing from the list, please call our Hotline at as soon as possible. You will see a Guest button on the screen. We do not collect Internet browsing data for sessions in Guest mode. If you do not wish your Internet browsing be captured, you may sign in as a Guest. For a child who is below 13 years old, please instruct them to always use Guest sign-in because we do not monitor their online activities. When in Guest mode, the sign-in screen will appear every 30 minutes to confirm the user status. Signing Out, continued next page 7

8 Signing Out Sign out when you are switching users on a device. To sign out, please go to and you will be automatically logged out. Please bookmark the sign-out page for easy access. 8 8

9 Screenwise Data Collector DSL PPPoE Setup Guide Please contact your Internet Service Provider and check with them if you require a PPPoE Username and Password to connect to the Internet. Step 1: Open your web browser and on the Address Bar go to Step 2: You will be prompted for a Username & Password. Please enter: Username: admin Password: google Step 3: You will connect to a page that looks like the one at left. Step 4: Click on the Internet Connection Type dropdown menu and select PPPoE. 10 Step 5: Enter the Username & Password supplied by your Internet Service Provider for the PPPoE Connection. Step 6: Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save Settings. Step 7: If you entered your username & correctly, you will now be connected to the Internet. 10
