Group of EU universities with long experience in academic cooperation among them meet to propose a new network for mobility with some of their LAC partners Agree to merge all their undergraduate mobility programs with LAC into one following the Erasmus principles and ALCUE recommendations Expect to get critical mass in one single mobility program that allows to compute statistics and establish good principles for an intercontinental program Agree to create a network with their previously existing and closest partners in LAC countries Agree to present procedures and results to ALCUE and other organizations interested in the dissemination of this experience and its good practices Expect to develop a mobility reference program that inspires international organizations to launch the EU-LAC undergraduate mobility program Magalhães Network, Jun-6 Universidad Politécnica de Madrid Pág. 2

5 ALCUE: Declaration of Ministers of Education 2 nd meeting of Ministers of Education (MEX, April-5): Horizon Foster the establishment and effective development of coordinated mobility programs for students,, through scholarships and grants that further such mobility in conditions of equity and equality of opportunities, and within the framework of joint actions that go beyond bilateral relations and, if applicable, provide the validation of studies 7.1 Propose the establishment of an ALCUE quality seal for networks, programs and projects within the Common Area 8. We entrust the Follow-up Committee with the development of the Plan of Action 25-8 by carrying out actions within the framework of the strategies defined above. 6 From the Vienna Declaration of Vienna 4th EU-Latin America/Caribbean Summit in Vienna (Austria) 12 May We attach priority to the creation of the EU-LAC Common Area of Higher Education, geared towards mobility and cooperation. In that context, we welcome and encourage the decisions adopted at the Ministerial Conference in Mexico in April 25 and the most recent recommendations Of the ALCUE Follow up Committee. 7 Objectives of Magalhães Regarding ALCUE directives and merging existing activities 31 Technical Universities create a network to merge and develop jointly existing academic activities (Magalhães) The topics and disciplines fall in the architecture and engineering fields Its first project (SMILE*) tries to merge existing bilateral exchange agreements into a multilateral one following the Erasmus principles Once SMILE has shown to be the seed for undergraduate mobility programme, the project will be open to every one Network s future intention is to exploit their good practices and trust to develop new projects, one at a time, in a way similar to SMILE. * SMILE: Student Mobility In Latin America, Caribbean and Europe Magalhães Network, Jun-6 Universidad Politécnica de Madrid Pág. 7
