Dual, Triple Qualifications Our experts at TAFE Queensland North have packaged programs that will enable you to combine two or three qualifications together. This will save time, give you better value for money and enhance your career and employment opportunities. For the range of dual or triple qualifications you can study, contact the Customer Service Centre on Recognition of Prior Learning Be rewarded for what you know. Have your current skills, knowledge and work experience recognised and credited towards a formal qualification. Previous experience can include study, work or volunteering. RPL could provide you with a full or part qualification, and avoid duplication of training. 7 ions Higher Level Skills Program The Higher Level Skills Program is a key Queensland Government initiative to assist individuals to gain the higher-level skills required to secure employment or career advancement in a priority industry, or transition to university. The program provides a government subsidy to support eligible individuals to access one subsidised training place in selected Certificate IV level and above qualifications, or priority skill sets. Certificate 3 Guarantee The Certificate 3 Guarantee is a Queensland Government initiative to ensure ongoing training subsidies are available to eligible students to increase employment opportunities. If eligible, you will receive subsidised training for your first post-school Certificate III level qualification in a priority training area. Students can now access VET FEE-HELP, an Australian Government interest free loan scheme. Eligible students who enrol in an approved Certificate IV, Diploma or higher level course can apply for VET FEE-HELP to assist with the cost of TAFE tuition fees. 8 I m ready to enrol, where to next? The course/s you choose will generally determine how you enrol at TAFE. Studying at TAFE Queensland North is one of the most cost-effective ways you can gain a nationally recognised qualification. For some of our programs you will need to apply directly to Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre (QTAC) at If your application to enrol in LEARNING SUPPORT Provided by specialised teachers, TAFE offers free support in time management, goal setting, exam preparation, operating a computer, study and research skills. COUNSELLING AND CAREER ADVICE Free and confidential short-term counselling is available to assist and support students with physical, emotional, social, educational and vocational needs. Where necessary a counsellor will work with teachers to assist students to achieve their personal and educational potential. DISABILITY SERVICES Students with a disability receive a variety of support services including; assistance with information on course content, adaptive equipment, contacting other service providers, identifying support needs. a program of study is successful you will receive an acceptance letter and . 9 Apprenticeships and Traineeships Apprenticeships and traineeships are jobs that combine work, structured training and formal assessment, which lead to a qualification. Apprentices or trainees are contracted to an employer for a nominal period of time, enabling them to successfully gain competence in a trade (apprenticeship) or a vocational area (traineeship). Choose TAFE for your apprentices and trainees. As an employer, TAFE Queensland North can work with you to develop a training plan, deliver the training, carry out assessments and issue qualifications to your employees on completion of their apprenticeship/traineeship. Our workplace coordinators provide ongoing support to employers, apprentices and trainees. Through extensive links with industry, TAFE is well-equipped to deliver quality training to give apprentices and trainees across North Queensland, the skills they need to succeed in their chosen field. Here are four easy steps to become an apprentice or trainee Choose the right apprenticeship or traineeship Think about what you enjoy doing and what your interests are. The business will pay your wages and train you with the support of a training organisation. You can be employed by a group training organisation who will place you with different businesses to gain on-the-job experience, pay your wage and organise your training. Choose a training organisation: You and your employer will choose a training organisation (TAFE) who will work with you throughout the apprenticeship or traineeship. 11 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies TAFE Queensland North is the only training facility in Queensland to have a faculty dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies. Over 20% of students enrolled at TAFE are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Students can choose to study a variety of industries including: Accounting Aged Care Business Conservation and Land Management Cultural Arts Education Environmental Health Management Primary Health Care Sport and Recreation Students can choose to study on campus, in communities and in the workplace. Even if you don t live near one of our campuses you can still enrol in our courses by accessing Away from Base (AFB) financial assistance which may help pay for your travel and accommodation to undertake an AFB course. (See page 41). All students have access to a team of dedicated Indigenous Student Support Officers to assist them with their training needs. Great Barrier Reef International Marine College All your maritime training needs in one location. One of the most comprehensively equipped training centres in the southern hemisphere, Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (GBRIMC) comprises a full mission bridge simulator and navigation labs, fire fighting and damage control emergency response training simulator and a sea survival training immersion pool, all of which are located on the one campus. In addition, our training vessel provides innovative hands on training, taking the classroom to sea. Training courses on offer at GBRIMC lead to Australian and internationally recognised certificates required to service on and operate all types of vessels.
