You can study externally in the convenience of your own home. Enrol anytime and study material will be sent to you. This training is recognised by the Australian Defence Force for entry. 5 Support when you need it Indigenous Student Support Officers (ISSOs) assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to reach their educational goals by providing study and/or personal support in a culturally sensitive manner. If students don t live near one of our campuses, they can still enrol in our courses by accessing Away from Base (AFB) financial assistance which may help pay for their travel and accommodation to undertake a course. Students have access to a wide range of training courses to suit their learning goals, and a team of dedicated Indigenous Student Support Officers are available to assist students with their TAFE training every step of the way. Have your current skills, knowledge and work experience recognised and credited towards a formal qualification. Previous experience can include study, work or volunteering. RPL could provide you with a full or part qualification, and avoid duplication of training. Use RPL to identify what training you may need to undertake to complete a qualification. 7 How do I enrol? Fees are payable at time of enrolment via eftpos, direct deposit, credit card or BPAY (no cash services available). QTAC For some of our programs you will need to apply directly to Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre (QTAC) at If your application to enrol in a program of study is successful you will receive an acceptance letter and . Closing dates and timelines are outlined on the QTAC website. Fees and payment options PAY THE TOTAL AMOUNT If you re not eligible for a subsidy or concession. PAY A PORTION The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for people who don t currently have a qualification. VET FEE-HELP = Study now, pay later! Students can now access VET FEE-HELP, an Australian Government loan scheme. Eligible students who enrol in an approved Diploma or higher level course can apply for VET FEE-HELP to assist with the cost of TAFE tuition fees. To find out if the course you re planning to study offers VET FEE-HELP, call your nearest campus or visit tafenorth.edu.au. PAYMENT PLANS TAFE Queensland North offers an interest free payment plan option to approved students allowing them to pay their fees in instalments over the duration of their study. Terms and conditions apply and payment plans are only offered through Direct Bank Debit contracts. FEE CONCESSION Eligible students are entitled to a fee concession on Queensland Government funded programs. For more information or to find out if you meet the criteria visit tafenorth.edu.au CERTIFICATE 3 GUARANTEE The Certificate 3 Guarantee is a Queensland Government initiative to ensure ongoing training subsidies are available to eligible students to increase employment opportunities. If eligible, you will receive subsidised training for your first post-school Certificate III level qualification in a priority training area. FEE-FREE TRAINING FOR YEAR 12 GRADUATES If you re a Queensland resident, have just finished year 12 and are keen to start your studies within the next calendar year, you might be eligible. The Queensland Government will pay the full cost of a number of certificate III qualifications in high priority study areas under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and User Choice programs. HIGHER LEVEL SKILLS SUBSIDY (HLS) The Higher Level Skills Program is a key Queensland Government initiative to assist individuals to gain the higher-level skills required to secure employment or career advancement in a priority industry, or transition to university. The program provides a government subsidy to support eligible individuals to access one subsidised training place in selected Certificate IV level and above qualifications, or priority skill sets. COUNSELLING AND CAREER ADVICE Free and confidential short-term counselling is available to assist and support students with physical, emotional, social, educational and vocational needs. Where necessary a counsellor will work with teachers to assist students to achieve their personal and educational potential. DISABILITY SERVICES Students with a disability receive a variety of support services including assistance with information on course content, adaptive equipment, contacting other service providers, identifying support needs. INTERNET/WI-FI Wi-fi hot spots are available at various campuses. Ask us how to connect yo ur personal devices. Student computers have internet access. LIBRARY Visit for the full range of library services available including books, magazines, DVDs, computers for student use, ebooks and ejournals. Students studying externally, or at a campus without a library, may request resources to be sent to their postal address. INDIGENOUS STUDENT SUPPORT All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have access to a team of Indigenous Support Officers to assist them with their learning and training needs. You will learn how to complete a Business Activity Statement and produce basic management reports as well as preparing budgets and supervising the operation of computer based systems. It was a challenge but it was worth it. The course consists of a range of specialised, technical and managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate your own work and the work of a team. Learn about visual culture and professional practice. Specialise in studio areas; painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital media, drawing, jewellery and community projects. (Not all studio areas are offered at both locations). This course is a partnership between TAFE Queensland North, Department of Education and Training State Schools and James Cook University. Career outcome I Teacher Aide / Assistant, leading to higher level qualifications March 2016 Diploma of Education (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) 10326NAT This is a community-based teacher education program to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to become qualified teaching assistants and/ or registered teachers. This qualification enables students to graduate with the skills to enter a number of different education fields. Careers could include library/administration assistant, cultural liaison officer or general teacher aide.
