17 Proyecto Especial del Ministerio de Defensa MD 31554/11 Implementation of 5 monitoring stations to monitor volcanic ash in the Argentine territory (Implementación de 5 estaciones instrumentales para monitoreo de cenizas volcánicas en el territorio argentino) The main goal of this project is to develop, setup and calibration of aerosol monitoring stations to study volcanic particles in argentina to help knowing their size, height, and other features of interest, and to eventually study the possibility of obtaining their density (g/m 3 ) to bring this information to the civil and military aviation to identify the atmospheric conditions for both commercial and military flights 1/4 17

36 Next Steps Install all the proposed instruments at the measuring sites Build and install new stations: Río Gallegos, Trelew and Ezeiza Perform training courses for the SMN operators in all stations Reinforce internet connection and data analysis 36

37 Conclusions An extensive aerosol lidar network is being built There are two new lidar sites since the beginning of 2012 at Bariloche and Comodoro Rivadavia Three new sites and the reinforcement of the actual stations with new instruments are expected for 2013 Aerosol observations using lidar instruments and nephelometry is being reported by the National Meteorological Weather Service since March
