1 Second Announcement: Focus meeting Beaver, Forest & Water Forestry and Water Network The Institute of Forestry LRCAF (Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry) and the Swedish Forest Agency have the pleasure of inviting you to the Forestry and Water Network meeting Beaver, Forest & Water The meeting will focus on three important components of forest ecosystem; Beaver, Forest and Water. The meeting will be held in Palanga, Lithuania on 1 st - 3 rd October The most desirable date for your arrival is 30 September, on the evening before of the meeting. Above mentioned meeting is one in the set of planned four meetings, where each meeting is focusing on a specific topic. Topics were identified in the forestry and water network to be of common interest in the Baltic Sea Region. The first meeting, focusing on drainage systems, was held in Riga in The second focus meeting "Buffer Zones" was held in Kaliningrad (Russia) on May 2013 and the third meeting Planning Tools will be held in Göteborg, Sweden on September Therefore, we are pleased to announce the last remaining focus meeting on Beaver, Forest & Water like a bridge between the main topics. The main aim of the meeting in Palanga is to share knowledge on the beaver (status, density, distribution etc.) and their relationship with forest and water as beaver habitat, and formulate ideas about how include a work package on this natural triangle of three cohesive components as beaver-forest-water in a large project. The intention is to apply for financing for a project within forestry and water to the Baltic Sea Region Programme in 2015, where above mentioned triangle could be an important work package.

4 Focus Meeting BEAVER, FOREST & WATER 1-3 Oct Palanga, Lithuania Recommended guidelines for presentation = Your presentation should be prepared in PowerPoint = Page set-up is landscape orientation = Use high-contrast lettering and a standard lettertype such as e.g. Arial = Use high-contrast colours: light text on dark background or vice versa = Do not overload your slides with long sentences: use keywords rather than complete sentences A presentation should deal with at least one of the following topics indicated below 1. Status of beaver population (abundance, density, temporal and spatial dynamics, tendencies, etc.). 2. Beaver impact to the water network (habitat distribution, habitat selectivity, water retention, natural streams, artificial streams, etc.). 3. Beaver and forest streams and wetlands (scale of impact, aspects of impact, damage aspects, etc.). 4. Beaver and riparian zone (the-beaver-induced changes, etc.). 5. Beaver and water chemistry. 6. Beaver and biota of water courses/wetlands. 7. Estimations of beaver damage. 8. Beaver management (for beaver protection, for beaver resources, for beaver damage).
