1 Filming and Uploading Videos for the Classroom Using Zoom, Ensemble, and Canvas This guide will explain step- by- step instructions on how to shoot and upload video to use in your classes, whether online or otherwise. Pictures and screenshots are used for clarification. 2 Introduction The easiest way to shoot and upload video for your classes utilizes three different services: Zoom Video Conferencing Anderson University s Canvas LMS Ensemble Media Server This guide will use a file structure format for what to click/select on a given screen. For example, to explain how to save a document in Microsoft Word, I would use this structure to explain what to select: Open Microsoft Word>File>Save As>Select Destination>Click Save Each > represents the flow of actions through a sequence of selections. These instructions will often be accompanied by pictures for clarification. Zoom Installation on Mac 1. Open your web browser of choice (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) 2. Go to andersonuniversity.zoom.us 3. Select Sign In in the upper right- hand corner of the screen. 4. Sign in on the following screen using your AU credentials (same for and Canvas) 2
3 5. Next, select Sign In again after ensuring that the option box above the button says andersonuniversity.zoom.us 6. To install the Zoom interface, please select dropdown arrow next to Host a Meeting in the upper right- hand corner of the screen, then select With Video On. 7. The next screen should be a pop- up window asking you to install the Zoom App. Please click OK. 8. The Zoom App will be installed automatically. Next click Open Link in the pop- up window that appears. 3
4 9. Your first video meeting will begin. Please click Join Audio Conference by Computer when prompted. 10. To exit the meeting, simply click to close the window and select End Meeting for All when prompted. 11. You will then see the Zoom App interface appear: From here, you can begin a meeting with or without video, invite contacts or students to join the meeting, or join one already in progress. For the purposes of simply shooting video for lecture capture, we will only be using the Start with Video option. No other users will take place in the meeting since the only person being recorded is you. We will cover recording video for lecture use in the section Recording Video with Zoom. 4
5 Zoom Installation on Windows 1. For Zoom installation on a Windows PC, follow steps 1-6 under Zoom Installation on Mac. 2. After selecting Host a Meeting With Video from the Zoom website home screen, a window will pop up asking you to save the setup file for the Zoom App. Please click Save File. 3. To start the setup, search for File Explorer and open it. 4. Double click on the Downloads folder. 5. Navigate to the file labeled Zoom_launcher.exe and double click it. 5
6 6. The setup will automatically install the program and begin your first Zoom video meeting. 7. Next, click the green Join Audio Conference by Computer button. 8. To exit the meeting simply close the window and select End Meeting for All when prompted. 9. The Zoom App interface will appear: From here, you can begin a meeting with or without video, invite contacts or students to join the meeting, or join one already in progress. 7 Recording Video with Zoom 1. Open the Zoom App by clicking on the Zoom icon installed on your desktop or by searching for Zoom via Spotlight search on a Mac (Cmd + Space) or using the Search bar on Windows. 2. Once the app is opened, click the orange square option labeled Start with Video. This will open a new video meeting that makes you the host. You can choose to add or invite participants if you wish, but for our purposes this is not necessary. 3. To begin recording the video, select Record on the far right end of the center tool bar. 4. After you are finished, you may click the Stop Recording button which will be in the same location. 5. Once you are done with the meeting, you may click the End Meeting button that is in red at the bottom right of the Zoom window. 6. The video will be automatically compressed and stored as an MP4 in a folder named Zoom which is now located on your computer. You can find this folder and subsequently all recorded Zoom meetings by: On a Mac: Go to Finder > Documents > Zoom > Then select the folder with the date the recording was made On Windows Go to File Explorer > My Documents > Zoom > Then select the folder with the date the recording was made 7
8 Uploading Video to Ensemble Media Server Directly 1. To upload media to the Anderson University Ensemble Media Server, go to media.andersonuniversity.edu 2. Log in using your AU credentials like you would for Canvas and be sure that the box below the login says Ensemble LDAP 3. Upon login, your media library will appear. If you do not have any videos already, this screen will appear to be relatively empty. To begin uploading a Zoom meeting or video, click the green +Add button in the upper left- hand portion of the screen. 4. You will be asked to provide any relevant information you want to include with your video such as title, date, and description. When you are finished, you can click the green Continue button on the right side of the screen. 5. Next, select the files you wish to upload by clicking the Add File button, navigating to the location of the saved video on your computer, and then clicking the Start Upload button directly beside the Add File button. 8
9 6. After the files have uploaded, you may click the green Continue button, and then finally the Publish button to finish the process. Adding Video to a Canvas Course This guide assumes that you have knowledge in how to access Canvas and use the basic functions. 1. Login to Canvas and navigate to the Course, Module, Assignment that you wish to add video to. NOTE: If you wish to add just a video to a module as a separate assignment, please change the type of page to Content Page when creating the new page as pictured below. 2. After you have created the content page or selected the existing assignment you wish to add the video to, enter the Edit mode of the page. 3. Next, click the small Ensemble icon on the main toolbar within the post/page. It can be found here: 9
10 4. This window will allow you to search and choose an existing video from any department or any faculty member, including yourself. You can navigate to the search fields to find your existing Zoom (or other) video or you can choose to Upload a new one not already on the Ensemble server. 5. Once you have found the video you wish to use, click the small green + symbol underneath the video thumbnail. 6. Then click the green Save option to the far right of the video. 7. The video will be inserted into your post/page, but will not be visible to you in edit mode (it will appear as a grey box). 8. Underneath the edit area, click Save and Publish to publish the post immediately, or Save to save the post until you are ready to publish it to your course.
