7 DESIGN, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DEVELOPMENT IN THE SERVICE OF COMFORT. 13 The Design department is where ideas take shape by visualisation in sketches, in a virtual form or as a model. The Interior Development department has the task of developing such components as hard and soft trim or complete seat systems. The Exterior department focuses on the entire functional development of a vehicle body, from package and structural development to common parts strategies and derivatives. AN IDEA BECAME A CAREER. The career of a Technical Product Designer already appealed to me when I was attending the Commercial College for Product Design in Stuttgart. Impressed by Bertrandt and the training on offer, I went to the applicants' day, which gave me an insight into the friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the committed teamwork and the good working relationship. CAREERS AT BERTRANDT. FROM TRAINEE TO MANAGING DIRECTOR. At the beginning of my training, I was given an introduction into the world of CATIA V5, a 3D tool that we as technical product designers can use to design components for our customers. In a group project, we designed a complete B-pillar using CATIA it was a fantastic and interesting experience. I m still just as convinced and impressed by Bertrandt as I was on the very first day. We were accepted in the company right from the start and felt that we were fully integrated during our training and that's still true today. How will you start your career at Bertrandt? 8 15 WHAT I PARTICULARLY LIKE ABOUT BERTRANDT IS THE GREAT WORKING ATMOSPHERE. I work in the field of HiL testing at the Electronics Development Competence Centre. It is my job to test the different functionalities of ECUs by carrying out HiL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) tests. HiL tests can be found in all areas of automotive development and are therefore a very wide and interesting field of activity. I particularly enjoy working in a team and performing HiL tests. I also find the practical work very interesting, for example commissioning new components with subsequent tests and functional trials. Steffen Hafner Employee at the Electronics Development Competence Centre, is gaining his first experience as a young professional at Bertrandt. What I particularly like about Bertrandt is the great working atmosphere, not only among my colleagues but also when working with our team leader and head of department. Electronics development plays a key role in the automotive and aviation industries. We offer all process steps for electronics domains, from development to integration and validation, on the component, system and vehicle level.

The sooner a product can be tested and validated, the shorter the development time and the greater the cost savings. Whether it is a question of validating functions or testing vehicles, we are an experienced testing partner. I began my career at Bertrandt as a lead engineer. I am now a team leader in Dynamics/Mechatronics Testing and responsible for the field of testing services. One of my main responsibilities is recruiting specialists for the technical areas of the department, such as vibration technology, measurement technology and acoustics. I supervise and manage my staff in customer projects and analyse customer requirements. I particularly like the regular contact with our customers. As I am very open towards other people, I especially enjoy the management of applicants. 10 18 19 I WANT TO TAKE THE COMPANY AND MYSELF A STEP FURTHER MY EXPERTISE FOR INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS. ENGINEERING SERVICES CONTROLLING PROCESSES, MANAGING INTERFACES. Increasing quality requirements and high process reliability are becoming continuously more important at our customers. This is precisely where Bertrandt's Engineering Services are most beneficial. We support our customers in areas such as data management, lean management, industrial engineering, production planning, logistics planning and material flow simulation. I applied for a job at Bertrandt in I began as a project engineer in quality management in a very interesting customer project. As part of this project, I developed a concept for the early detection of faults in vehicles. I continued to supervise the implementation of this concept as lead engineer. Today, I am head of department in the field of Sales/After-Sales. My greatest challenge is to sustainably expand this field and to extend Bertrandt's portfolio of services beyond the areas of development and production. I particularly enjoy working together with young, upcoming executives. For example, I am part of the observer committee that analyses the potential of future managers and I give recommendations to help choose the best talents. What I like about Bertrandt is the pleasant atmosphere and cooperation among my colleagues. The stability and sustainability that result from this offer excellent opportunities for development. 11 20 PERSONAL FURTHER DEVELOPMENT IS POSSIBLE AT ALL TIMES. I began as an engineer involved in the introduction of measurement technology in the testing department of Bertrandt Munich. Shortly afterwards, I moved to Ingolstadt to set up the testing and electronics development departments. One year later I was appointed team leader and three years after that I became head of department. Following the introduction of the matrix structure, I became responsible as head of the Competence Centre for introducing electronics development and designing the Electrical Systems/Electronics network in the Group. Since 2011, I have been Managing Director of the sites in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm, and since 2013 also at the site in Hungary. Christian Ruland Managing Director of the Bertrandt sites in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Hungary, studied electrical engineering after his military service where he qualified as a wide-area network specialist. My personal highlights include taking part in the set-up phase in Ingolstadt, the first development of an ECU at Bertrandt, the strategic expansion of the Electrics/Electronics Competence Centre and the development of competence centres that span various sites of the Group. I see my main challenge at Bertrandt in the continuously changing variety of issues facing us. I appreciate the solidity of the company and the values that it represents in all areas. Powertrain development focuses, among other things, on engine calibration, exhaust aftertreatment and downsizing. Chassis development deals with the process of component development right through to the design and testing of chassis properties.
