2 What is Fire Tech Camp? Fire Tech Camp brings these together to empower your child with the right skills and environment so that they can build something amazing. We are a leading tech education provider, putting the power of technology into kids hands so that they can create their own games, design smartphone apps, code like a pro, build robots to do their bidding, and learn much more in the fields of programming, engineering, design, making and the digital arts! During school holiday periods and weekends, children aged 9 to 17 spend time gaining great skills, and getting exposure to the inner workings of the games and tech world. Young people will make new friends, stretch their horizons, and enjoy the support of a world-class team.
3 January 2017 Courses Date Time Location Monday, the 9th of January 2017 to Friday, the 20th of January am to 4pm kids drop off from 9.45am onwards, Picked up from 3.50pm onwards. All courses will be available at ECU Joondalup or ECU Mt Lawley Lunch Unless stated in the course information, kids are required to bring their own lunch, as well as a bag with a hat, sun-cream, water bottle and any snacks they may want. 4 Robotics with Ozobot Building and racing drones Price: $119 Price: $119 Course ages: Ages 9-12 Course length: 1 day Course subject: Electronics, Hardware, Programming, Robotics Monday, Jan 9, 16 Wednesday, Jan 11, 18 Friday, Jan 13, 20 Overiew: Campers will use the Ozobot Bit robots to explore their creativity while learning key programming and engineering concepts. They will design challenges, solve mazes and even recreate famous movie scenes, all with the Ozobot Bit robots! - Basic programming. - Common robotics concepts. - RBG sensors and basic physics. - Teamwork skills. - Problem solving and mathematical skills. Course length: 1 day Course subject: Electronics, Hardware, Robotics, Piloting Tuesday, Jan 10, 17 Wednesday, Jan 11, 18 Thursday, Jan 12, 19 Overiew: Makers will embark on an adventure of building and piloting drones. Taught by an industry professional and Fire Tech Camp trained tutor your kids we will build together a complete drone and race it through the sky. Learning the basics in engineering, robotic concepts and drone flying your children will be drone pilots and engineers by the end of the day. - Choosing the components needed to build your own drone. - Understanding the concepts of each component in an easy to follow way. - Basic engineering and robotics - Deep understanding of drones and construction - Drone piloting using virtual reality goggles

Students will use Java to build their own games, developing the confidence to apply their new-found coding skills within the Java framework. This course is suitable for teens aged 12+ and no previous programming knowledge is required. - The fundamentals of game design: stories, characters, settings, attributions - Key terms and concepts within the Java programming language - Familiarity with the Greenfoot environment - Confidence in creating and implementing code - Testing and de-bugging - Tools and resources to take coding further through independent learning Overiew: This course enables you with the ability for creating fashion and accessories that have technology integrated at the textile level. Monday-Tuesday, Jan 09-10, Thursday - Friday, Jan 12-13, Overiew: Become a master of the DSLR camera by using light, contrast and shutter speed to create beautiful digital images through in-field instruction. Discover Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, and learn how to consistently produce amazing-quality images, as well as how to fix issues like red eye. Course subject: Music production, recording physical environment, music theory. Overiew: Students will learn skills to mix their own tracks and turn their physical environment into an arena of musical instruments, with the help of some conductive paint and special software! - Understanding DSLR camera - A strong level of understanding lighting, contrast and shutter speeds with your camera - Work out how to use basic composition - Dive into editing on the famous Adobe suites - Become a photographer in 2 days - How to use commercial digital music production software - How to create your own unique sounds - Basic music theory - Musical structures and techniques for composing an original piece of music - How to turn your environment into an Ableton controller with Makey Makey and conductive paints - How to record and process your music
8 Exploring with Arduino Minecraft Maker Price: $500 Price: $500 Course subject: programming, ardunio, engineering. Overiew: Using Arduino, this course teaches the basics of physical computing to teenagers aged 12+. Students will learn to develop systems that interact with the environment around them (know as cyber-physical systems ), building breadboards and programming their own Arduino microcontroller to read inputs and produce outputs. - Introduction: The programming environment, the language used and blinking LEDs - Actuators: Simple digital toggles, transistor-based switches and pulse width modulation (motors) - Sensors: Analogue (light sensors using LDR) and digital (temperature or humidity sensors) - Communication: Wired and wireless communication between devices and more conventional computers Course subject: Video game design, story design, logic programming Overiew: In this holiday course you will make your own world, blocks and structures, and even experiment with different materials to create physical game controllers. 9 Python Coding with Electronics in Minecraft Teen Coding with Python I Price: $500 Price: $500 Course subject: Programming, electionics, minecraft modding. Course subject: Programming, coding logic Overiew: Children and teens aged 12+ learn how to write code that interacts with the Minecraft game, building huge structures automatically, and adding their own intelligence by creating mini games within the Minecraft world. But be assured, the focus of this course is learning Python programming, using Minecraft as an engaging environment and tool. - Know how to set up and run their own mini Minecraft server - Be able to design and code Minecraft mini games in Python, using a range of programming techniques - Code their own automated block building programs, enabling them to build huge complex structures at the blink of an eye - Add intelligence to their games through Python coding Overiew: Students will acquire the foundations of computer science to continue their independent or school-based learning in future. While this is a beginners course, we do find that many teens who have already started to learn to program on their own find our back to basics approach very helpful as they fill in any gaps in their fundamentals. - fundamentals of coding key concepts and structure of languages and projects - project design theory and practice for designing a simple game or app - coding participants will learn to code in Python, work on mini-projects, building graphical interfaces, games and problem-solving routines.
10 Teen Coding with Python II Build Your Own Website Price: $500 Price: $500 Course subject: project managment, advanced python. Overiew: Take your coding further with this second step in learning Python. This course builds on the Python fundamentals covered in the Teen Coding with Python course. Students will cover more advanced concepts and use their skills to solve interesting problems based on real data. Project design - Write modular, reusable code by using Python - functions and modules. - Understand errors and exceptions - Learn how to do basic testing. Coding Course subject: HTML, CSS, JAVA and web design Overiew: This course goes beyond theory and training exercises and teaches how to solve real world challenges and write code as used by professional web developers. - Gain a good understanding of HTML, CSS and JAVAscript - Be able to break down a professional design into code - Be able write by hand the HTML and CSS required to make a typical design - Be able to look up new elements, properties - Regular expressions - Data structures - Object-oriented programming
