3 Mr R Garrett Long Field School David Gibson King Edward VII School Chris Robinson John Ferneley John Sherwin Belvoir High Introduction from Melton and Vale of Belvoir Head Teachers Dear Student and Parents It is with great pleasure that the Melton and Vale of Belvoir schools present to you the first ever partnership options booklet. As you know, all of your compulsory subjects at Key Stage 4 (maths, English, science etc.) and a range of optional courses are available to study in your home school and this is where you will spend most of your school time. You can find details of these courses in your home school Key Stage 4 course guide or options booklet. However, by working together, the partnership of schools has been able to extend this basic offer with a range of partnership options which are studied away from your home school in one of the partnership establishments (King Edward VII School, Long Field School, John Ferneley College, Brooksby Melton College and Belvoir High). These partnership options are described on the following pages and include GCSE and Diploma courses. You can get further information on what these courses entail at your home schools options evenings but this booklet makes it clear what you can study and where. If you choose a Partnership GCSE option you will study at the listed school on Thursday afternoons and will travel to this school after your Thursday morning s learning in your home school. It is only possible to choose 1 GCSE course to study at another school. If you choose to study for a Diploma in Engineering or Creative and Media you will study at Brooksby Melton College all day on Wednesdays and on Thursday mornings. Diploma students will also be able to choose 1 further option subject. This is likely to be back in your home school but could be at one of the partnership schools depending on your choice. You should read the information in this booklet along with your home school Key Stage 4 course guide or options booklet. Any queries you have can be answered by staff at your home school. The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section will answer additional queries you may have. As in all schools, options choices depend on student demand. We hope to be able to offer all these options if there are enough students who want to take them. We look forward to helping you choose a Key Stage 4 course of study that you will enjoy and be successful in.
4 Frequently Asked Questions 4 What is a partnership option? This is a Key Stage 4 subject that you choose to study at one of the partnership schools (Belvoir High School, John Ferneley College, King Edward VII School or Long Field School) or Brooksby Melton College. When will it be taught? Every Thursday afternoon during term time for GCSE courses, in a two and a half hour block. For Diplomas, all day Wednesday and a two and a half hour block on Thursday mornings. Where will it be taught? In one of the partnership schools for GCSE or Brooksby Melton College for Diploma courses. What uniform should I wear? You should wear the uniform of your home school. What are the transport arrangements to and from other schools? Transport will be provided to and from the partnership schools where necessary. There is no expectation that parents will incur additional cost for pupils studying partnership options. Who will assess my work? The teacher delivering the course will assess your work and the partnership school will be responsible for moderating and submitting it to the exam boards for external assessment. Where will I sit any exams? In the partnership school where you have studied the subject. How will my progress be reported on? The partnership school will report on your progress at least twice during each academic year. You will receive that progress report from the partnership school. What are the expectations of me whilst I am studying at another school? You are expected to comply with the behaviour policy of the partnership school and complete all assignments set. If your behaviour means that your learning and that of other students is being adversely affected, the partnership school, home school and parents will work together to resolve any issues. The partnership school reserves the right to withdraw you from the course you have chosen and you would then have to return to alternative study at your home school. What data will be shared between the partnership establishments? The usual personal details of students held by the home school (such as emergency contacts, special needs and medical information) will be shared with any partnership establishment responsible for educating that student. This is to ensure we best serve the needs of students wherever they are studying. This data is, of course, subject to Data Protection Laws.

12 GERMAN FOR BEGINNERS (GCSE) Taught at King Edward VII School 12 Who is it for? German for beginners is a course for those who have not had the chance to study German before. It is a two year course which aims to take people to GCSE by the end of Year 11. Whether it is combined with French or Spanish or not, it is a useful language to have. You will develop your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. There are four main topics: lifestyle. leisure. home and environment. work and education. There are listening and reading examinations in the summer term of Year 11. Speaking and writing are done whenever you are ready at any time during the course. Two recordings are made and two essays are written, at different times throughout the year. Questions you may ask yourself: Am I good enough to do it? The answer is YES, even if you find it difficult. We are here to help you get better. I am dyslexic. I can t do German. This is not true. The only writing is coursework, and your teacher will give you support. I ll never need German That may be true, but times are changing. Ask around and you will find many adults who regret not being able to speak another language. You may also find that some universities will expect a grade C or above in a modern language for admission to any degree. It s much easier now than trying to do a crash course later. And at university those who want to take part in Erasmus schemes and go abroad have to show they can already work in a foreign language.

This work will be assessed as part of your coursework. Final Assessment Coursework 60% 10 hour practical exam 40% 13 This course involves being creative and imaginative with your ideas. You must have an ability to use computers and related technology, working with a variety of packages and though this is an art subject not an ICT course, you will be working on computers every lesson.
