Dear Parents, It was lovely to come back to school and hear all the lovely stores of half term adventures, I was also very pleased to hear that we have some entries to the BBC2 s 500 words competition. Good Luck to all the entrants! We begin a new guiding principle this half term, we will be thinking about how we can build our knowledge of respecting and caring for others by using the teachings of Jesus and St Lawrence. We will be thinking of ways that we respect and care of each other, the world around us and how rules and laws also help us respect and care. Our jungle gym appeal starts with the Easter Bingo! It is always such a great evening and guaranteed to raise a smile! Tickets are like hot cakes so if you don t have yours yet - hurry! We welcomed into school the Wrekin riders this week. We have some very talented sports boys and girls and this would be another exciting opportunity for children to experience an Olympic sport. Please go along to the sessions- you don t need a BMX bike everything is provided for the taster sessions! World Book Day - Thursday 3 rd March Homework this weekend! Reading in unusual places!! - We would like you to take a photo of the children and yourselves, reading in unusual places please! The photos can be ed into the office or printed out! Let s see who can come up with the most inventive place to read a book! The closing date is Friday 11 th March. Other book related activities in school are

2 Favourite books - The adults in school will be reading from their favourite books and dressed as characters from a very famous book! We are encouraging the children to dress as book characters, please no super hero costumes, they don t have to be fancy- just fun! Thank you to those parents who are adapting bought costumes! Megan Davies is fast becoming our artist in residence! She has helped us create the sculpture in the hall for our Take 1 picture theme in 2013 and has worked with us again for this year s picture and now she will be here for world book day with art in storytelling. This will give the children a different perspective on story-telling and how you can achieve it! Class 1 will be working on The Owl Babies, this links with their work on growth and living things. Class 2 will be working on a children s classic The Phoenix and the Carpet by E Nesbit. The children will be focussing on chapter 1 and so will be keen to read the rest of the story, this book is easily available on amazon. Class 3 will be working on the Ted Hughes classic - Iron Man. Please make your appointments for parents evenings, we have listened to your suggestions and have changed the format to 2 evenings so you can have more time with your child s teacher. MUFTI DAY This year we will be holding a Mufti day on Friday 11 th March. All children can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for an Easter egg for the Easter bingo for a donation of FORTHCOMING EVENTS THE LAST SUPPER On Tuesday 15 th March at 2pm St Lawrence School will be celebrating the Last Supper under the school oak tree. Parents are invited to join in with this special celebration, we would like to welcome as many of you as possible.

4 EASTER BINGO Saturday 19 th March at St John s Church Hall in Muxton. Doors open at 4.30pm and eyes down at 5pm. Tickets are now on sale at the school office Adults 1.00 Children 50p PALM SUNDAY LENT LUNCH St. Lawrence Church would like to invite you to their Lent Lunch on Sunday 20th March in School at p.m. This will be a variety of soups and crusty bread, followed by cheese and biscuits. We would like a minimum donation of 3 (not per person) which will go to the Bishop of Lichfield s Lent Appeal. Anyone wishing to attend the lunch, please would they ring either Betty on or Pat on by Monday 14th March. Thanks Pat EASTER SERVICE We look forward to welcoming you all to our Easter service on Tuesday 22 nd March at St Lawrence Church at 2pm. The children will be starting a special palm procession from school to the church at 1.30pm. After the service, the children will be walked back to school into their classrooms. We will release the children to parents from their classrooms. We will be having a very special animal guest at the years Palm Sunday service. POLLING DAY Advanced warning for child care. The polling date has been set for Thursday 5 th May As the school is traditionally used as a polling station, we will be closed on that day.

5 ACTIVE KIDS IS BACK Sainsbury s vouchers are back! If you shop in Sainsbury s remember to collect your voucher for St Lawrence Primary school. This year you will receive all your vouchers on one receipt. You still get one voucher for every 10 you spend, so if you spend 40 you will get four vouchers on one receipt. Vouchers are available in your Sainsbury s store between 27 th January and 3 rd May Once you have collected your vouchers please put them in the collection box in the school reception.
