3 Your presenters Mary McCrorie, Partner, Veale Wasbrough Vizards LLP Prior to becoming a solicitor, Mary worked in the commercial worlds of Telecoms and IT where her role was building relationships with large corporate organisations. In an about change, once she qualified as a solicitor, helping individuals sort out their personal legal affairs became her focus, hence passion for private client work. Mary is a full member of STEP and of course of the Probate Section of the Law Society. Outside of work, she is a keen amateur singer and clarinet player but would benefit from more practise! Nigel Clarke, Relationship Director, Lloyds Bank Private Banking Nigel is the Relationship Director for Lloyds Bank Private Banking in Bristol. He leads the delivery of a high quality relationship service to private banking clients. This involves not only providing a first class relationship service but providing holistic financial advice to help clients successfully build, manage and cascade their wealth. Nigel will also be attempting a 300 mile cycle ride in September for Children in Need and has set himself the ambitious target of raising 3,000 for this cause. Rachel Pinn, Senior Associate, Burges Salmon LLP Rachel has worked for Burges Salmon for 15 years and is now Head of Probate in the Private Client and Wealth Structuring department. She deals with the administration of a wide range of estates including complex and high value ones both pure UK based and with international aspects. James Dudbridge, Associate, Burges Salmon LLP James joined Burges Salmon in 2015 from the Geneva office of a London based law firm. His work focuses largely on the international aspects of tax and estate planning, in particular planning advice for trustees, UK resident nondomiciliaries and international clients with assets in more than one jurisdiction. Christine Green, Partner, Veale Wasbrough Vizards LLP Christine leads the Private Wealth Sector at Veale Wasbrough Vizards and has worked for many years advising clients on estate planning, trusts and Wills and is able to offer a wide range of experience to clients. She acts as a trustee for family trusts and as an independent administrator in disputed estates. She also has a particular interest in cross border matters, advising in complex, high value estates. She has also appeared on television and radio: BBC2's Working Lunch and on Radio 4's Money Box Live. Christine was the successful personal representative Claimant in the widely reported High Court case of Green v Astor [2013] EWHC Christine is ranked In Chambers UK, Legal 500 and the Citywealth leaders list. She is also listed by Super Lawyers 2016 as a recognition reserved for those lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice and has qualified for their honours list. Alexander Learmonth, Barrister, New Square Chambers Alexander practices from New Square Chambers in Lincoln s Inn (though lives locally to Bristol), specialising in succession, real property and related professional negligence. He has considerable experience both as a trial advocate and before the Court of Appeal, and appeared in the Supreme Court in Marley v Rawlings. He is an editor of the two leading textbooks on succession, Theobald on Wills, and Williams, Mortimer & Sunnucks, and in 2015 was named Contentious Barrister of the Year by ACTAPS. "A very, very knowledgeable practitioner, who identifies things others might not. He is very measured and careful in cases and handles clients sensitively." Chambers UK (2016). John Sharples, Barrister, St John s Chambers John became a fully-qualified mediator in early 2015 and now acts as both a mediator and as a representative at mediations, specialising in property, private client and related areas. He also lectures on aspects of mediation law and practice to solicitors in the South West and Wales. John is the Head of Property at St John s Chambers and a barrister with nearly 25 years experience, almost entirely in the areas of property and private client. John has a good success rate for achieving settlements at mediation. His style is friendly but direct and incisive. John has been described as very down to earth and particularly user-friendly and wise as can be (Chambers UK 2015) attributes he brings to mediations.

4 Your presenters Tim Walsh, Barrister, Guildhall Chambers Tim joined Guildhall Chambers in 2000 and specialises exclusively in property, probate and trusts disputes. In 2013 he was appointed as a Lawyer Chairman of the Residential Property Tribunal in Wales. Tim is recommended in both Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners and has been the head of Guildhall Chambers Property and Estates team since Leslie Blohm QC, St John s Chambers Leslie has been awarded Barrister of the Year 2015/2016 by Bristol Law Society. He has over 25 years experience conducting contentious probate litigation. He successfully represented the farmer s daughter in the Cowshed Cinderella case both in the High Court and on appeal in her claim to an entitlement to or interest in the family pedigree Holstein/Friesian diary farm resulting from years of underpaid work. Leslie brings a wealth of experience of how judges approach cases. His style of advocacy is very measured and solid; he s a man of substance. Chambers UK (2015). John Dickinson, Barrister, St John s Chambers John trained as a mediator at the London School of Mediation, was accredited in 2015 and now serves as both a mediator and as a representative at mediations. John sees his role as helping the parties use their own positions and interests to work towards a solution, leaving the parties respective lawyers to evaluate their case and offer any legal advice. John uses his extensive legal and commercial experience to help principled negotiations reach a resolution based on reason and objective criteria. John has real attention to detail combined with commercial pragmatism. Legal 500 (2015) Alex Troup, Barrister, St John s Chambers Alex is a barrister and mediator with particular experience of dealing with contentious trust and probate disputes. He adopts a friendly but nononsense approach to mediations and has a high success rate for achieving settlements. Alex s recent experience as a mediator includes cases involving the following practice areas: Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, proprietary estoppel, constructive trust/trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996, lifetime gifts, donatio mortis causa and disputes over chattels. George Rowell, Barrister, St John s Chambers George has been a commercial and chancery barrister since 2004 and a member of the Attorney General s Panel of Counsel since He has a particular interest in professional negligence, trust litigation, and private client tax advice and disputes. He has a highly successful track record in mediations. He is recommended in Chambers UK and Legal 500. Richard Gold, Barrister, St John s Chambers Richard is a qualified mediator, having completed his training with the London School of Mediation. He is happy to act as mediator in all types of dispute, particularly chancery or commercial cases. Dr Kate Harrington, Pupil, St John s Chambers Dr Kate Harrington is a pupil at St John s Chambers and a Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Law School. She has been trained as a mediator by the London School of Mediation and has experience of training law students in mediation. In 2016 Kate was elected as a Trustee of the Society of Mediators. Simon M c Kie, Partner, M c Kie & Co (Advisory Services) LLP M c Kie & Co (Advisory Services) LLP, is a leading consultancy specialising in providing advice on the taxation of the private client. Simon is currently a member of the Technical Committee of STEP and of the CIOT s Succession Taxes and Capital Gains Tax and Investment Income subcommittees. He is a former chairman of the Faculty of Taxation and of the Faculty s Inheritance Tax & Trusts Sub-Committee and of the Capital Tax Sub-Committee of the CIOT. He is a well known lecturer and writer on taxation. His published works include The Capital Gains Taxation of Non- Resident Settlements (Sweet & Maxwell), M c Kie on Reinvestment Relief (Butterworths), Butterworths Personal Financial Planning Manual, Tolleys Estate Planning and most recently M c Kie on Statutory Residence (CCH), which he has written with Sharon M c Kie. He was the Capital Gains Tax correspondent of Private Client Business and was formerly on the editorial boards of Taxation, the Tax Journal and Taxline.
