1 STEP COURSE Issues for Private Client Advisers This course, structured in eight session spread over 2010, is designed and led by experts from City of London law firm Speechly Bircham and BDO plus other invited speakers as appropriate. Topic 3 Privacy from Press Intrusion 15 th April 2010 The focus of this day will be on the rights which individuals and their families have to privacy and the steps that can be taken to protect the privacy of high profile individuals. The day will involve a case study drawing on experiences from real life cases. Issues to be considered include the relevancy of residency status, domicile, different taxes and double tax treaties.

We will consider ways to make structures as robust as possible to prevent successful legal challenges. The day will include a case study and some consideration will be given to relevant aspects of Sharia law and statutory claims by heirs in civil law countries and their impact on trusts and estates. It will also highlight issues to look out for when reviewing existing structures.
