JOB PURPOSE The delivery f high quality treatment and care t patients, assciated duty f care t ther members f the public including the prvisin f health advice (see and treat), and transprtatin t apprpriate medical facilities, generally in emergency situatins. 3. DIMENSIONS The pst hlder is respnsible fr: Fllwing Jint Ryal Cllege Ambulance Liaisn Cmmittee (JRCALC) clinical guidelines and clinical standards as laid dwn. Respnsible fr keeping abreast f all new develpments within these guidelines and standards. Respnsible fr prviding life-preserving treatments. 4 5. MAIN TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Carries ut daily inspectin f vehicle and reprt any damage r defects immediately 2. Checks stck f patient care equipment and ensure that all equipment is safe, clean and in gd wrking rder. 3. Ensures that he/she and the vehicle are in state f readiness at all times 4. Transmits and receives infrmatin via radi/ telephne in accrdance with Service prcedures. 5. Assesses the mst apprpriate methd f cnveying patients using the relevant equipment and mving and handling techniques, when necessary 6. Attends t patients using the full range f pre-hspital emergency care and extended skills when apprpriate. 7. Reprts relevant patient histry, cnditin and treatment t receiving hspital staff 8. Maintains a high quality f patient care ensuring that cnsideratin is given at all times t the feelings and needs f the patient. 9. Acts as Ambulance incident fficer when first n scene at Majr Incident 10. At all times maintains standards and bserves the cde f cnduct expected f Qualified Ambulance staff 11. Drives service vehicles in accrdance with the apprved methds f techniques f driving 12. Cmplies with health and safety rules and regulatins and reprts accidents r hazards immediately. 13. Ensures cmpliance with Cntrl f Infectin standards. 14. Cmpletes and submits all relevant dcumentatin t cmply with Service requirements 15. Ensures that vehicle, patient care equipment and Statin are kept clean and tidy at all times 16. Undertakes training as required and respnsible fr keeping abreast f any new develpments and changes t clinical guidelines. 17. Maintaining sufficient basic knwledge f the paramedic rle t effectively assist in delivery f patient care e.g. assisting with drug administratin 18. Carry ut dynamic risk assessment 19. Assists line manager(s) as required with risk assessment f tasks carried ut and ensures that safe wrking practices are fllwed at all times in line with Service Plicy and current legislatin. 20. Cmplies with Health and Safety rules and regulatins. Ensures that any accidents, near misses r hazards are reprted immediately t line manager using the Health & Safety Accident & Incident Reprting Frm, the Vehicle Accident Reprt Frm and/r REPD Incident Reprt Frm as apprpriate. 21. Inductin Standards and Cde f Cnduct Yur perfrmance must cmply with the Mandatry Inductin Standards fr Healthcare Supprt Wrkers in Sctland 2009; and with the Cde f Cnduct fr Jb Descriptin/December 05 4

6 6 EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY Use f a variety f clinical equipment in an emergency setting Carry ut vehicle inspectin at start f shift and reprt any damage r defects immediately. Check stck f patient care equipment and ensure that all equipment is safe, clean and in gd wrking rder. Ensuring all medical supplies are in date and sterile Use f mving and handling equipment Use f cmputer equipment t supprt clinical issues. Use f radi equipment/mbile telephne 7. SYSTEMS Cmpletin f : Patient Reprt Frms using infrmatin generated by pst hlder. Frms relating t ther aspects f wrk, e.g. cardiac reprt frms Accident/incident reprting and near miss frms. 7 8 DECISIONS AND JUDGEMENTS Standards will be determined by JRCALC clinical guidelines, prtcls, plicies and prcedures. T autnmusly assess and diagnse individual patient needs t determine hw t treat in accrdance with JRCALC Recgnitin f Life Extinct and cessatin f resuscitatin Ntwithstanding the abve, decisins made will require evaluatin f evidence t facilitate chice between different appraches. Wrk is allcated by EMDC thrugh the despatching system fr emergency calls and ther duties will be allcated via the line manager. Rutinely, whilst n calls, technicians wrk withut line manager presence, althugh advice and supprt are readily available. 9 COMMUNICATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS Required t deal with sensitive situatins prfessinally, assertively and tactfully Required t respect religius beliefs and cultural differences and cmmunicate in emtinal circumstances. Required t cmmunicate effectively and cncisely with ther emergency and health service emplyees. PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB Must have gd hand eye c-rdinatin skills in rder t carry ut clinical prcedures Required t, using apprpriate aids, mve and handle patients Respnds t emergency calls and situatins that require cncentratin as well as being distressing and smetimes traumatic, fr example rad traffic accidents Expsure t, and cntact with, bdy fluids. Dealing with death, this is especially distressing in cases f infant mrtality, etc Dealing with relatives and members f the public in difficult circumstances, e.g. sudden death Cntact with aggressive patients requiring use f management f aggressin skills Respnding and attending t emergency calls in all kinds f weather 11. MOST CHALLENGING/DIFFICULT PARTS OF THE JOB Assessment f wide range f patient cnditins in a variety f differing circumstances.
