Introduction Virtualization Living in the Clouds Virtualization, more commonly referred to as the cloud, is a technical initiative to make everything available from anywhere all the end user needs is an Internet-connected device What this means is that your core business applications, share drives, and access to your office desktop no longer require pre-configured VPN software on designated hardware. What is Citrix XenApp? XenApp is but one of Citrix s products geared towards corporate workspace virtualization. XenApp itself is an application virtualization and delivery solution that allows end users access to their corporate environment from any device. Citrix supports ios, Android, and Windows platforms (tablet, mobile, and laptop/desktop).

4 II. Getting Started How do I get access? There are two prerequisites to gaining access to Citrix XenApp: a working RSA token, and provisioning to the Citrix environment. Requesting either (or both) is straightforward and follows standard Cowen procedures. In ISA, XenApp can be found under: Applications>Citrix>Citrix XenApp. Likewise, RSA can be found under Remote Access (RSA)>Remote Access Employee. Application Installation The only software requirement is the installation of Citrix Receiver, a free client that allows your device to run the virtual environment. Follow the following steps to retrieve the Receiver for your specific device(s): PC/Mac: Go to the Citrix website here to download the software. The site will auto-detect your operating system and No additional configuration is necessary. ipad/iphone: Citrix Receiver is a free application available on itunes. Once installed, no additional configuration is necessary. Android Devices: Citrix Receiver is a free application available on Google Play. Once installed, no additional configuration is necessary. Accessing and Logging into the Citrix Portal Now that you have been provisioned for the Citrix environment, procured your RSA token, and have installed the Receiver, it is now time to login. From any web browser, simply go to either of the following URL s (remember to bookmark!): Main Citrix Portal: Mobile ( lite version): Once on the page, enter your login credentials (same as Windows), followed by the RSA token passcode.

5 III. Navigating the Cloud Applications and Shared Drives Once successfully logged into the portal, you will be greeted with a list of icons of applications that you have been given access to. The applications are based on your business line, to more accurately reflect those that you would need access to while omitting those that you would never access. A list of accessible applications can be found in Appendix A, should you need access to an application please contact support and they will assist. One particularly useful function in XenApp is the concept of a roaming profile, which synchs your local workstation Desktop and My Documents folders, as well as mapped share drives, in the cloud so that they can be accessed from the portal. To access your files and mapped drives directly, simply click on the My Files icon. You will then see a file explorer window open with access to your files and drives.

6 IV. Remote Desktop Citrix Style Express Access to Your Office Workstation Your Citrix account also provides you with the ability to leverage Citrix advanced remote desktop capabilities. When your account is enabled a small client is installed on your workstation that allows you to access your desktop remote through the Citrix portal. To do so, simply click on the Desktops tab, and the workstations that you have been given permission to access will be available to you. Click on the image of the desktop you wish to launch, and you will be automatically logged in after the workstation is loaded. Note: Citrix Remote Desktop fully emulates your office environment and supports multiple monitors. If you have multiple monitors and would like to use them through this option, stretch the Citrix Remote Desktop window after it s fully loaded, and click the maximize button on the window. After a quick refresh, your remote desktop screen will now span each monitor (we have tested up to 8 simultaneous monitors).

7 V. Common Q s & A s Q: Does Citrix replace VPN? What are the differences? A: Yes, and no. Citrix replaces VPN insofar as it provides you with nearly all of the same functionality provided to you by VPN namely, accessing the Cowen corporate environment. To that extent, yes, Citrix replaces VPN. What Citrix does not do, however, is allow a direct access tunnel to the corporate network from your remote device. For example, logging into Citrix and then launching your laptop s local install of Internet Explorer and accessing Cowen Inside (or any other Cowen intranet website) will fail. Likewise, network shared drives will not be accessible from your laptop s local Windows explorer window. All Cowen-specific tasks will need to be initiatived from the Citrix portal. Q: How do I print? A: Any printers you have defined on your local host system (the machine you are launching Citrix from) are automatically mapped to your Citrix session. This includes printers directly connected to your local system and network printers you have defined on your local system. If you use the RDP service through administration tools, you will not be able to print to your local printers, only those printers mapped on the machine you remote into. Q: How do I add applications to my portal? A: If there is an application that is on the app list that you would like access to but currently do not, please contact the support desk and they will work to have you permissioned. If there is an application that you would like to be made available on the Citrix portal that is not on the apps list, contact the support desk and they will log your request. There are requirements that an application must meet for it to be compatible with Citrix. Because of this, not all applications can be made available on the Citrix portal, but IT will make best efforts to bring them online. Q: Can I use Cisco Communicator soft phone? A: No, unfortunately Cisco Communicator is not supported in XenApp. However, Microsoft Lync 2013 will be available in Q and can be used in place of Cisco Communicator. We will also make Communicator available on your work desktop for times you remote in. Q: Why do I see this Profile Unity window everytime I log into my workstation or launch a Citrix application? A: Profile Unity ( PU ) is the not-so-secret sauce that stores your My Documents and Desktop folders to the cloud, making them accessible to you from anywhere. PU also stores common settings for applications, such as your IM credentials, so that you do not have to remember them or enter them each time you log in. Synchronization runs quietly in the background and occurs real time.
