4 Independence Trust Independence Trust is a non-statutory service for people with a drug or alcohol problem, for their families and carers, for professionals and for concerned others. It is an open access service so you can phone or drop-in during opening hours, or book an appointment if you prefer. Independence Trust can work with you if you are still using drugs and alcohol, or if you are trying to become or stay drug and alcohol free. You will be offered support with other problems related to your drug and alcohol use. It is mainly for adults aged 18 and over. (See Services for Young People on page 28 if you are under 18). Independence Trust offers: Arrest referral - support for people who have been arrested and held in Police custody CIS (Community Integration Service). Comprising the best elements of a harm minimisation day programme and a reintegration service, CIS engages with clients throughout their journey through treatment. The programme incorporates group work, one to one support, therapeutic activities, complementary therapies and progress into educational and vocation opportunities. 5 CSSMS (Countywide Specialist Substance Misuse Service) CSSMS is a statutory service (part of the NHS/Social Services) for adults with a drug or alcohol problem who need treatment. CSSMS can also work with families and partners, non-statutory services and other professionals. Drug referrals can be made by your GP, doctor, health worker, midwife or Independence Trust worker. All referrals are sent via GPwSI or Primary Care Substance Misuse Service who complete a Triage assessment and refer on to CSSMS if appropriate, otherwise the Primary Care Substance Misuse Service will start treatment. Alcohol referrals now go to the Independence Trust, who will complete initial assessments and treatment, referring on to CSSMS for community or inpatient detox if necessary. (See page 6 for details of independence Trust). (See Services for Young People on page 28 if you are under 18). CSSMS provides: Medical treatment (prescribing) where necessary Assessment for treatment with a GP, including ongoing support from CSSMS (this is called shared care and sometimes includes prescribing) One-to-one support with drugs, alcohol and related problems such as mental health, physical health, housing, relationships and work Groupwork (based in Gloucester) Therapy for service users and their families (based in Gloucester) Complementary therapies such as acupuncture Detox from drugs or alcohol at home or in hospital A special service for pregnant women Arrangements to get people into rehab (often residential) and reviews of progress Support to access other services Local appointments Specialist clinics where you can take prescribed medication, for example methadone. 6 National Probation Service Drug Rehabilitation Requirements (DRR) These are the updated versions of the Drug Treatment and Testing Orders. The requirements are for people who have been offending to support their drug use. They are a form of sentence issued by the Courts so that a person may receive structured treatment for their drug problems. A referral is made to the treatment team by the Probation Service and a specialist assessment is conducted. The aim of a DRR is to enable the individual to stop using drugs, to stop offending and to lead a healthier life. 7 Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) DIP works with Class A drug misusing offenders and sets in motion a range of interventions to address criminal behaviour and enable access to treatment and support. This begins at an individual s first point of contact with the criminal justice system and continues through the journey that can include custody, court, sentence, treatment and beyond into resettlement. DIP works with those that are 18 or over and provides rapid access to drug treatment. This initiative is also involved with the re-integration of individuals that have drug issues and are released from prisons and need help starting a new life. Should you wish to benefit from the service provided by DIP you can contact DIP directly or ask your Probation Officer, CARAT worker, or support worker to assist. DIP provides: Case management/keyworking Advice and information Support to access treatment Support with housing, education and work
8 The Nelson Trust The Nelson Trust, based in Stroud, is a non-statutory organisation which provides support for people who have drug and alcohol problems. The programme is both residential, and daycare. The Nelson Trust works with people who are committed to living a drug free life. The service is for people aged 17 or over. There is also an abstinent day programme. Most people stay in treatment for between six weeks and three to six months. The Nelson Trust offers further support for up to two years after treatment and encourages clients to attend 12 Step meetings (A.A. / N.A.). You will need to be assessed to see that you qualify for statutory funding. Nelson Trust can help you arrange this. The Nelson Trust offers: An individual care plan designed with your collaboration to help you achieve the goals in your care plan One-to-one counselling, group therapy and workshops Health and Nutrition advice One-to-one support with education, training and finding work plus options to take courses leading to qualifications Skills workshops Sport and leisure activities An opportunity to rebuild relationships with family and friends; this could include meetings with a counsellor Family services include an addiction family therapist who is available for advice, support and designing help and treatment If a Gloucestershire resident comes into daycare or residential the family therapist can support the family with a raft of services. He is also open to calls from struggling family members A service for women with visiting facilities for children Help to find move-on accommodation, including the Nelson Trust s own supported Resettlement housing in Stroud and Gloucester Advice on managing debt Ongoing support as you move on and build a new life Aftercare for service users leaving other structured treatment in the county. 9 Inishfree Inishfree is a charity which has been set up to provide an alternative holistic approach for people overcoming addiction. We offer accommodation and support in a rural setting based here in the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Our programme addresses the needs of individuals who have lost their way and purpose in life by providing structured activities, and encourages the development of a healthy lifestyle. Personal development, re-engaging with the world and initiative taking are at the heart of our programme. To be eligible you need to be 18 or over, have completed detoxification and show commitment to your recovery. Inishfree takes referrals from substance misuse services, probation, prisons, GPs, Social Services, and self-referrals. To access Inishfree you do not need to have funding from your local authority, but you will need to pay rent and your living expenses, which are usually covered by your benefits. Inishfree offers: Accommodation for 9 people for up to 2 years in a small community setting Structured daily activities in our house and garden Artistic activities An opportunity to make friends and repair past relationships with family One-to-one counselling Individual support plans Complementary therapies (massage, drama, movement and art) Group therapy OCN training in horticulture Help with housing and benefits Debt advice Skills workshops (woodwork, ceramics, DIY etc). 10 The Marah Trust The Marah Trust, based in central Stroud is a Christian charity set up to support the growing number of Stroud s men and women marginalised by society. Marah runs 3 drop-in sessions each week where volunteers work alongside ex-offenders and people who are homeless, coping with addiction, suffering with physical or mental health problems or who have any other special needs. It is a place where all are welcomed in a non-judgmental way. The service is for people aged 16 or over. The drop-in offers a first point of call and provides a place where people can meet and talk amongst themselves and with Marah staff, in a relaxed, non threatening environment where advocacy services are offered. There is no charge for any of Marah s services. The Marah Trust plans to develop, in cooperation with other relevant organisations, a Day Centre opening for 5 days a week, providing a structured day programme, relapseprevention programme and a long term reintegration programme with a series of client led vocational and work skills projects. Marah offers: Free nutritious hot meals A listening ear Friendship and support when wanted Advocacy services, including help with form filling and letter writing Support with housing applications Support with accessing treatment Art, craft and music activities. 11 The GPwSI Primary Care Substance Misuse Service The GPwSI Primary Care Substance Misuse Service provides a tier 3 community prescribing service that meets the needs of people over 18 years who are affected by substance misuse within the county of Gloucestershire. The service provides a medically supervised treatment in conjunction with psycho-social interventions, care co-ordination including key working. It is provided by a multi disciplinary and multi agency community team with specialist knowledge of substance misuse. The service receives all referrals and triages for substitute prescribing. Referrals without triage are assessed and all are screened and allocated to CSSMS or GPwSI for prescribing as appropriate. Referrals are accepted from: Homeless Project GPs and Primary Care staff Criminal Justice Drug Team Drug Intervention Programme CSSMS - County-Wide Specialist Substance Misuse Service External drug agencies. GPwSI provides: Triage Assessments Substitute prescribing Health care assessments Viral testing Comprehensive assessments Psycho social interventions, relapse prevention and motivational enhancements Stress management Healthy eating and sleep hygiene Help with educational and housing needs, benefit problems Home visits Referral to Community Integration Service Clinic in GP surgeries. 12 County HIV and Hepatitis Service The county HIV/Hepatitis Service is a statutory organisation (part of the NHS). It provides support to people with HIV and/or Hepatitis infection, their families and others, as well as providing information and education. If you have a concern about HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C, or would like to consider a blood test for these viruses, you can telephone and make an appointment yourself or ask the staff at Independence Trust, CSSMS or DRRs (see page 6-11) and they will be able to arrange it for you. Anyone of any age can use the service, which is completely confidential. This means that no information will be passed on without your permission. 13 Supporting Futures (Glos) Ltd - Floating Support Based in Cinderford, Forest of Dean, Supporting Futures is a private organisation which provides Housing Related Support for people who have drug and alcohol problems. The project is Floating Support in the community, offering full assessments, home visits, help with keeping tenancy or move-ons, overcoming addictions and social isolation, debt management, behaviour management, health concerns and wellbeing. 14 Family Focus Family Focus is a countywide Multidimensional Family Therapy Service that takes an integrated approach to working with families who are affected by substance misuse. The service is delivered through a partnership between adult and children & young people s services in order that all family members needs are accurately assessed and addressed. The service aims to address the issues of increasing safety for all family members and developing positive and meaningful communication and problem solving skills. Criteria for a referral: Families with children who are experiencing the impact of parental substance misuse Families where the substance misusing parent is accessing substance misuse treatment or demonstrates orientation to wards positive change. Family Focus Modalities of Treatment: Process of referral and engagement: Referrals can be made by professionals working with the families, with their permission and from family members themselves. Referral forms can be requested from the Substance Misuse Hub (details below). On receipt of the referral the relevant information will be passed to the team and allocated to a member of staff who will contact the referrer to arrange a family meeting. Following an assessment a structured care plan will be created and agreed with all those concerned, in compliment with any other professional involvement. 15 services for young people (under 18 s) Gloucestershire Young People s Substance Misuse Service (GYPSMS) The Gloucestershire Young People s Substance Misuse Service (GYPSMS) works throughout Gloucestershire offering a free specialist service for children and young people (under 18 years of age unless in exceptional circumstances) with significant drug and/or alcohol misuse. The Service is commissioned within Gloucestershire s Integrated Youth Support Structure; which means that service-users are able to access a range of related services to meet their various needs without unnecessary barriers. Once a young person is referred to our service a worker will promptly contact the referrer and/or young person to arrange an initial contact meeting in a convenient and appropriate venue. This is followed by a comprehensive assessment to identify your needs, which are then addressed in a structured manner through a care plan that is tailored with you to suit you. All of this is undertaken in accordance with the strictest codes of confidentiality. This means that no-one will find out about what s discussed unless you want them to know or unless you or someone else is at risk of significant harm. 16 services for young people (under 18 s) Infobuzz InfoBuzz aims to help young people negotiate the transition to adulthood by providing support and education on drugs, alcohol, and sexual health as well as providing learning opportunities focussing on personal and social skills development. InfoBuzz is commissioned to provide a county-wide Tier 2 service of targeted intervention for individual young people getting into difficulties with drugs and/or alcohol. Young people can be referred to the service through the CYPD hub at Hucclecote. Following screening and referral, an InfoBuzz worker will make first contact with the young person within 5 working days and will then provide a structured 6 week intervention. Groups of young people may also be referred for the Tier 2 service.
