2 Whether you are looking for advice about your personal drug or alcohol use or concerned about someone else there are services available in the Borough. You will find the local contact details to talk in confidence to specialist staff about drug or alcohol use and how to seek treatment. The services are free to all residents of the Borough. There are a wide range of drug and alcohol services providing a number of different interventions to substance users, their families and carers or affected others. Some of the interventions offered are listed below: Advice and information Keyworking and one-to-one counselling Group Programmes Blood-borne virus service Substitute Prescribing Community Detoxification Inpatient Substance Misuse Treatment Complementary Therapies such as acupuncture Family work How do you measure up? Why don t you find out? An independent, anonymous and objective feedback on your alcohol and drug use. The drugs meter and alcohol meter compares your drug or alcohol use amongst thousands of people across the globe and provides a personalised and non-judgemental feedback. and Also available for free on smartphone
3 Community Drug Team Advice and information; substitute medication for heroin addiction; key work and group work; nurse appointments for healthcare assessments, testing for HIV, Hep B, C and immunisation and other services; including assessment for accessing inpatient detox and residential rehabilitation services. 5 Young people Young People s Service under 19s Specialist confidential service for young people using drugs and alcohol. (A transitional worker can also work with those up to 25). The services offered are: Regular 1:1 psycho- social support Specialist support for pregnant clients Tailored training for professionals Harm reduction advice and access to further support Awareness raising and education for young people Substitute prescribing for those using heroin A concerned family member, relative or professionals can talk to a member of staff for advice and guidance. All referrals must have the young person s consent. When: Mon-Fri, 9.30am-5.30pm Where: Unit 26 Skylines Village, Limeharbour, Marsh Wall, E14 9TS Tel: Family Support Breaking the Cycle A free and confidential service providing support to families affected by parental substance misuse. Support is offered to the whole family and includes: Systemic Family Therapy Harm reduction advice Practical advice and advocacy Bengali speaking worker Contact Breaking the Cycle on MPACT Moving Parents and Children Together A structured group programme for families affected by substance misuse. MPACT works with up to 8 families at a time to explore the impact parental drug and/or alcohol use has on the family. The sessions aim to: Identify and build on personal and family strengths Improve family communication Improve safety Develop positive coping strategies and raise self esteem Contact MPACT on
6 Friends and Family Members Friends and Family Group at TH Community Alcohol Team A facilitated group for adult friends and family members who are concerned by someone they care about due to drug and/or alcohol use. This service is offered on a Friday morning. Counselling is available for friends and family members. The fellowships of Alanon and Families Anonymous also take place on specific evenings during the week For more information please contact the Community Alcohol Team on Friends and Family Group at Specialist Addiction Unit (SAU) An evening service which uses the 5 step model developed for friends and family members of substance misusers. The service runs one evening a week for 5 weeks. For more information please contact the SAU on Health E1 Homeless medical centre Medical centre for patients who are street homeless, in hostels or in other temporary/unstable accommodation in Tower Hamlets. These patients are offered full GP registration at the surgery. When: Mon-Wed 9am-1pm and 2pm-5.30pm Thurs 9am-1pm and 2pm-7.30pm Fri 10.30am-1pm and 2pm-5.30pm Where: 9-11 Brick Lane, E1 6PU Tel: Harbour Recovery Centre Men only residential detoxification centre for noncomplex (non-injecting) opiate users aged years requiring detox. Offering detoxification, group work programmes and counselling. When: Open 24 hours, 7 days a week Where: Riverside House, 4th Floor 20 Garford Street, E14 8JG Tel:
7 Specialist Addiction Unit (SAU) A multidisciplinary service which provides structured drug treatment to adults with complex drug related needs. These complex needs may be due to: Physical health Mental health Using a number of drugs including alcohol in a chaotic way Pregnancy When: Mon 9am-5pm, Tues 9am-7pm, Wed 9am-5pm, Thurs 9am-7pm, Fri 9am-5pm Where: Beaumont House, Bancroft Road, (off Mile End Road), E1 4DG Tel: Tower Hamlets Drug Intervention Project (DIP) The DIP works closely with the criminal justice system and offers drug using offenders access to a wide range of treatment options from substitute prescribing, group programmes, key working and referrals to residential detoxification and rehabilitation. The DIP specialises in addressing criminogenic needs as well as developing a tailormade sustainable treatment package.
