2 Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the city: the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belem Tower; whilst the town of Sintra looks like something straight out of a fairy tale. A wealth of excellent museums, from the world-class Calouste Gulbenkian Museum to the outstanding Ancient Art Museum, and the award-winning Mae D Agua Water Museum. The main river basin of the Tagus Estuary in Lisbon stretches up to 14km across and is said to be large enough to contain all the warships in the world. It is also a perfect space for regattas and speed-boating. Shops are generally open from 10am-7pm, although many of the small, traditional stores close for lunch between 1pm-3pm. The more alternative boutiques in the hip Bairro Alto function on a much later body clock! Lisbon enjoys a Subtropical-Mediterranean climate. From amongst all European, it has the warmest winters, with average temperatures 15 C during the day and 8 C at night in the period from December to February. The typical summer season lasts about six months, from May to October, although also in November, March and April temperatures sometimes reach around 20 C.

Delegates will attend the All-on-4 course - refer to course program : Partners depart for a day of fun on a partnerprogram DEPART FOR BELÉM DISCOVERIES QUARTER Belém is a district of Lisbon located not far from the city center. Being one of the city s most interesting quarters, it became famous as the departure point for renowned Portuguese explorers. It was here that Vasco da Gama set off for India. This small district has a lot of fascinating historic and cultural landmarks. Some of them, such as Torre de Belém and Jerónimos Monastery, are iconic. Historical Belém Tower, built in 1514 to commemorate Vasco da Gama s famous sea voyage to India. In 1983, it was classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. Modern Monument to the Discoveries, dedicated to all Portuguese explorers. Jerónimos Monastery, a magnificent monastery considered one of the most prominent monuments in Lisbon and represents one of the greatest achievements of the Manueline style (Portuguese late Gothic). In 1983, it was classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. THEN BOARD THE HILLY TRAM CITY TOUR FROM BELEM TO DOWNTOWN In Belém we suggest to start a fun ride on the city s emblematic trams! Built in the early 19th-century, they re a distinctive sunflower-yellow colour and run on thick iron rails set into the city s steep, cobbled streets. It s a cronky, cranky ride up and down the hills, but the experience is great fun. On board the group, a lady dressed with regional costume will be serving a glass of port wine!

5 FOLLOWING THE BELEM TOUR, DRINKS & TAPS WALKING TOUR WITH FUNICULARS AND ELEVATORS As one last experience before heading home we suggest a fun run round on the city s emblematic elevators and trolleys. We will get in the Santa Justa Elevator. This remarkable masterpiece was designed by an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel and makes the connection between the Baixa (downtown) and Bairro Alto (high quarter). When it opened in 1902 it was steam powered. In 1907 it became electrical and was the only vertical elevator in Lisbon in public service. Made entirely of cast iron, and embellished with filigree, the lifts within the tower go up to 45 metres and carry 25 persons in each cabin of which there are two. In a romantic neo-gothic design, this elevator gives you a magnificent view over the centre of Lisbon and the Tagus River from the top. During the tour a stop for a local gourmet products tasting: cheeses & wines = first starter for the day. With a décor that looks more like a living room than a store, this gourmet space offers Portuguese and international products. Top Portuguese brands such as Confiança and Portus Cale feature heavily, and everything is deliciously tempting (sauces, cupcakes, national and international wines, pastas, chocolates...)! Here we offer the opportunity to sample locally produced goods such as Port wine, Moscatel, red wine, olive oils, honey, chocolate and traditional preserves. Bon apetite! RETURN TO DOWNTOWN LISBON WITH THE GLORIA FUNICULAR Last stop will be a funicular trolley - the Gloria funicular was opened in 1885 and in February 2002 it was classified as a national monument. Located on the west side of the Avenida da Liberdade, in Restauradores square, the Gloria funicular connects Lisbon s downtown with the Bairro Alto. It s next to the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, a wonderful look-out point with a shady statue-lined terrace and plenty of photo opportunities. Excellent views of the city and castle are to be had from the gardens. In Rossio we will continue to discover Lisbon Gastronomy: suckling pig rissoles Second starter. Continuing in downtown we will make a stop at a medieval bar for tasting of famous Conserveira Portuguesa delicacies main course which is a tapas lunch. Let`s travel back to medieval Lisbon at this bar filled with wooden tables, horns and candle light. This cosy medieval bar, the only in Lisbon, serves drinks in ceramic cups, and Portuguese Tapas and snacks. Also you can try house special drink: hydromel!

6 Through the cobbled streets we will reach Saint George s Castle which can be seen from almost everywhere in the city. Dessert will be served during the tour, allowing to discover Portuguese s typical sweets and desserts. The tour will continue thought Alfama: Lisbon s most emblematic quarter and one of the most rewarding for walkers and photographers thanks to its medieval alleys and outstanding views. Because its foundation is dense bedrock, it survived the 1755 earthquake, and a walk through this old-fashioned residential neighbourhood is now a step back in time. It is a village within a city still made up of narrow streets, tiny squares, churches, and whitewashed houses with wrought-iron balconies adorned with pots of flowers, drying laundry, and caged birds. Back in downtown, in Terreiro do Paço, coffee will be served at the outdoor tables under the arcades facing Comércio Square and the River. Lisbon s oldest café (opened in 1782) is known for its literary references, including its period as a second home to one of Portugal s most famous poets and writers Fernando Pessoa. This famous Portuguese poet used to always sit and write at the same table, as a tribute the table is permanently reserved in the main dining area. THEN IT IS UP TO A GOCARS TRIP UP THE CASTLE AND DOWN ALFAMA This activity is allows you to try out one of the most original and exciting new modes of transport. Kais is housed in a converted electricity plant located down by the river it provided the electricity needed to power the trams which still part of the public transport network today. This former warehouse is now, without doubt, one of the most sophisticated restaurants in Lisbon. The cuisine is modern and international.
