Please arrive at school in time for a 6.30 pm departure. Students must attend school as normal on the day of Monday 21 st March. Wear suitable comfortable clothing for travelling. Please leave space for the coach to park. Hand luggage: bring what you need for an overnight coach journey including snacks and drinks, a small pillow etc. for sleeping on the coach. Passports should have been handed on the parent s information evening (or by Wednesday 16 th March at the latest). Arrangements will be made to hand over passports to Mrs Fernandez for any student who is participating in the Benalmadena trip also. Passports and EHIC Cards Passports and EHICs will be carried by staff and stored safely for the duration of the trip. They will be handed back to students prior to passing through customs on the return journey. 2

Visit to Kongresshalle Free time in Nuremburg TBC Evening meal at a local traditional restaurant in Nuremburg Wednesday 23 rd March Nuremburg Walking tour of the Nazi Rally Grounds Memorium Nuremburg Trials, Courtroom 600 Flossenburg Concentration Camp Thursday 24 th March Nuremburg Berlin Journey to Berlin, lunch en route Haus am Wannsee Friday 25 th March - Berlin Walking tour of Berlin Holocaust Memorial and Visitor centre German Resistance Museum Evening meal in traditional restaurant in central Berlin Depart for Calais Saturday 26 th March (overnight) Long journey home! Ferry from Calais to Dover at approximately 8.30am 3

4 Luggage / Kit List Below are suggestions of what students will need to take. They will need a bag, such as a rucksack, for items needed on the journey and one case or holdall which will be put in the coach boot and be inaccessible during the journey. Since we will be spending a great deal of time on the coach it is important that students can make themselves comfortable and keep themselves amused. They will also need some food and drink, although there will be opportunities to buy refreshments during the journey. Students will need sufficient clothing for 6 days. Warm, comfortable clothes are appropriate. Layers, such as T-shirts, shirt and jumper are probably more sensible. Party clothes will not be needed! Students will be provided with a booklet in which to keep a diary of their trip. They will need pens or pencils to write and sketch with. Day bag and items for the coach journey Pillow / blanket or compact sleeping bag Food or snacks and drink for the journey (NO NUTS PLEASE) o cereal bars & fruit juice / water may be better than crisps & coke Amusements and pass-times for the journey o (ipod/music player & headphones, books, travel games, playing cards) Pens / pencils Money (small change is useful for toilet stops if you have any left from a previous holiday) Toiletries o (e.g. toothbrush & toothpaste and wash kit, baby wipes, sanitary protection) Medicines (hand in to group leader) o (prescription medication, travel sickness tablets, asthma inhaler, painkillers, remedies for diarrhoea or constipation) Warm and waterproof coat, scarf, gloves etc. Change of clothes (overnight wear for the coach journey if wished.) Main luggage (no access while travelling) Underwear / socks Tops layers are best shirts or tee shirts, jumpers Jeans / trousers / leggings Shoes / boots / trainers (sturdy walking shoes are best) Nightwear Toiletries (toothbrush & toothpaste, shower gel, etc. sanitary protection) Plastic bag for dirty washing, shoes etc. Hairdryer (share with a friend if possible to reduce luggage) Mains plug adapter for electrical items Phone charger 4

5 It is the student s responsibility to look after their belongings whilst on the trip, with the exception of money which has been handed to staff for safe keeping. Staff on the trip will not take responsibility for the loss of or damage to any valuable items such as ipods, mobile phones or cameras. Therefore we recommend that students do not bring valuables with them on the trip. Money As a very rough guide, I suggest around spending money per day. Money should be exchanged from sterling to Euros before departure. Students will need some cash for the journey enough to buy a meal on the ferry and drinks etc. at service stations. Small change is useful for toilet stops if you have any Euros left from holidays. Students may bank any other money with their group leaders on the day of departure. This is so that they don t lose their money or run out before the end of the week. Envelopes can then be collected from their trip leader every morning Cash should be placed into 3 envelopes labeled Wednesday / Thursday / Friday and must be clearly labelled with the student s name. The 3 envelopes should then be placed into 1 big envelope also labelled with the student s name. Students will be able to keep any additional money they take on them and will be able to access their money from their group leader each morning. First Aid / Illness All prescribed medication and non-prescribed should be handed in to your group leader before departure. Staff will keep these all week and dispense to you as required. Medicines must be in a bag or box. It should be marked with your name and clear instructions for dosages etc. Students must provide their own plasters etc. Illness students must let group leader know if they are unwell or if they are taking any medicine (even if it is just routine paracetamol please let us know). 5

6 Insurance We are covered by the School s Insurance policy. If your son/daughter has a pre-existing medical condition you should consider taking out your own insurance in case extra cover is required. Please hand in the insurance certificate before departure. Loss or theft of valuable items is not covered. Accommodation Nuremburg Ramada Park Hotel, Munchene Strasse 25, D Nuremburg Berlin A&O Hauptbahnhof, Lehrter Strasse 12, Berlin Miss Wright will hand passports in to the hotel reception upon arrival, where they will be placed in the safe. Students will be able to decide upon who they wish to share a room with when we are en route. Students should check their rooms for damage when they first enter and should let their group leader know of any problems. Students must not go into each other s rooms and must not leave the hotel unless accompanied by a member of staff. Conduct & Behaviour All staff on the trip are keen that students have an enjoyable time on the trip and that they gain a lot from the experience. However, in order for the trip to be enjoyable and successful for everyone, the following code of conduct and health and safety reminders must be read and adhered to during the trip. At Leventhorpe we have high expectations of students and we will expect these high standards throughout the trip. 6

7 Conduct & Behaviour o All students must listen to members of staff and guides when required to do so and ensure that instructions given are carried out immediately. o Be punctual to meals and meeting times. o Students will be expected to register with a member of staff (group leader) regularly. o In the hotel, students must dress and behave appropriately. Running in corridors, swapping rooms, slamming doors etc. are unacceptable. o Conduct must be exemplary at all times. You are representing the school and you must respect the sensitive nature of some of the places we visit. o Respect other members of the public at all times in the hotel, on public transport, in museums etc. o Drug-taking, alcohol and smoking are strictly forbidden. If this expectation is broken you will be removed from all activities and/or sent home. o Unsupervised time no one is to be on their own students should stay in small groups of 3 or 4 students. All students will carry with them the Emergency contact card issued by staff on the trip. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEND STUDENTS HOME AT THE EXPENSE OF PARENTS IF CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOUR DOES NOT MEET OUR EXPECTATIONS. Health & Safety Reminders Listen to all instructions from any adult and follow them carefully. Always wear a seatbelt on the coach. Make sure you always register or check in regularly with group leader. Take care on roads remember the traffic will come from your left in Germany. If you are unwell tell your group leader as soon as possible. Hand medication to your group leader and let them know if you have taken any medication. If you wish to go somewhere you must tell a teacher where and when you are going and also tell them you have returned. 7

8 Evening work Students will be expected to complete a diary to record their learning on the trip. This must be completed during the day s activities and in the evening or other breaks and must be presented to their group leader every evening. The last day & Journey home Saturday 26 th March - ferry booked for channel crossing at 8.30 am; Arrive to Leventhorpe at lunch time (12-1 pm). Either staff or students will phone you to let parents know a more accurate arrival time on the morning of our return. Emergency numbers In the event of any emergency, Mr Dyke is the person to contact. He is our SLT liaison while we are away on the trip also.
