7 Installing and configuring the Reporting and Monitoring feature Installing the reporting and monitoring feature AIX Linux Windows IBM Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring proides information and reports about the IBM Tioli Storage Manager serers and client actiity. The Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature installs the following components: IBM Tioli Monitoring, which includes the following components: IBM DB2 IBM Tioli Monitoring, which includes: - Tioli Enterprise Portal - Tioli Data Warehouse - Tioli Enterprise Monitoring Serer - Summarization Pruning Agent - Warehouse Proxy Agent Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring agent To iew historical reports, (no access to current data on the Tioli Enterprise Portal) you must install the Administration Center. For details on installing the Administration Center, see Installing and configuring the Administration Center. For more details on how the Tioli Storage Manager data flows between components see the IBM Tioli Storage Manager Administrator's Guide for your operating system. To create your own reports, you must also install the Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) software. The Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature does not hae an option to create custom reports using Tioli Storage Manager. For more details on using custom reporting, see Installing software for custom reporting on page 37. 8 Planning to install the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature AIX Linux Windows Before installing the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature, there are some decisions you must make. You hae IBM Tioli Monitoring currently installed on a serer If you are currently using IBM Tioli Monitoring, the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature can be installed on your existing IBM Tioli Monitoring serer but the following requirements must be met: The IBM Tioli Monitoring serer must be a fully-licensed ersion of IBM Tioli Monitoring. The IBM Tioli Monitoring serer must be at the 6.2 FP1 or later leel. Because the Tioli Enterprise Monitoring Serer controls the reporting and monitoring agent, the agent must be installed on your existing Tioli Enterprise Monitoring Serer. You can install the reporting and monitoring agent on any IBM Tioli Monitoring serer, but it is required on the Tioli Enterprise Monitoring Serer. For this type of reporting and monitoring installation, the Reporting and monitoring feature option would not be checked on the installation wizard and the IBM Tioli Monitoring serer is identified when prompted by the installation script. You would not check the Agent only option. The ersion of IBM Tioli Monitoring that you install with the reporting and monitoring feature can only be used for Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring functions, and not for other functions such as monitoring operating systems, or other non-tioli products or data. You do not hae IBM Tioli Monitoring installed on a serer In this situation, you must install all components of the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature on one serer. The Tioli Storage Manager serer must be installed on a separate system. Besides the Reporting and monitoring feature component, the Reporting and monitoring agent component is also installed on the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring serer. Requirements for the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring agent configuration The only time you configure the reporting and monitoring agent on the serer where you installed the Reporting and monitoring feature component is when you hae the following conditions: If you hae an IT enironment that has less than 10 Tioli Storage Manager serers. If you want to establish a prototype of the Tioli Storage Manager serer to test the installation first. 2 IBM Tioli : Reporting and Monitoring installation and configuration updates February, 2011

9 Collecting data from multiple Tioli Storage Manager serers using this configuration requires creation of multiple reporting and monitoring agent instances and results in using large amounts of memory. For reporting and monitoring, you need an additional 4 GB or more of memory on the Tioli Storage Manager serer to proide optimum performance. For an IT enironment that has more than 10 Tioli Storage Manager serers, install the reporting and monitoring agent on each Tioli Storage Manager serer that you want to monitor. This configuration allows for the most efficient use of memory on both the Tioli Storage Manager serer and the IBM Tioli Monitoring serer. Installation scenarios for the reporting and monitoring feature Depending on the type of reporting installation you are performing, you install different components. The following situations describe three installation scenarios and list the components you install for each scenario: You hae Tioli Storage Manager, ersion 5.5 or 6.1 and you want to install the reporting and monitoring feature only. You install the reporting and monitoring agent on your Tioli Storage Manager serer. You install the following components on a different system which will be your Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring serer: - Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature - Reporting and monitoring agent - Reporting and monitoring languages - Tioli Storage Manager Administration Center For details on installing the Administration Center, see Installing and configuring the Administration Center. It is not aailable through the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature installation wizard. You are installing Tioli Storage Manager, ersion 6.2 for the first time and you want to install both Tioli Storage Manager serer and the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature. 1. You install Tioli Storage Manager, ersion 6.2 and the reporting and monitoring agent on one system. 2. You install the following components on a different system which will be your Tioli Storage Manager serer: Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature Reporting and monitoring agent Reporting and monitoring languages Tioli Storage Manager Administration Center For details on installing the Administration Center, see Installing and configuring the Administration Center. It is not aailable through the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring feature installation wizard. You hae Tioli Storage Manager, ersion 5.5 or 6.1 installed and you want to upgrade to Tioli Storage Manager, ersion You upgrade your Tioli Storage Manager, ersion 5.5 or 6.1 serer to Tioli Storage Manager, ersion 6.2 and install the Tioli Storage Manager reporting and monitoring agent on this system.
