HFTP POLYU STUDENT CHAPTER Mission Statement We, the members of HFTP Hong Kong Polytechnic University Student Chapter, dedicate ourselves to provide a platform for future industry leaders in hospitality finance and technology. We commit ourselves to cultivating energetic hospitality professionals by offering opportunities to explore and develop our interests in the sector we are qualifying for with education, networking and resources. nnn Past Events 2009 HICAP Student Sharing Facebook Group Establishment Inaugurated in May 2007, the HFTP PolyU Student Chapter was the first in Asia and the second outside North America. The HFTP PolyU Student Chapter provides a platform for members to network with their peers and industry practitioners in the hospitality finance and technology sectors. Through participation in professional conferences, seminars, field Google Online Challenge Lunch Gathering Guest Speech Hotel Visit trips and other activities, the Chapter helps its members to gain a better understanding of the accounting, financial management, information processing and technology management in the hospitality industry. It also provides students with resources and educational programmes to keep them at the leading edge of finance and technology in the hospitality industry. 2 April Newsletter Page 2 Past Events Nov 2009 Dec 2009 Jan Feb Mar HICAP Student Helper Sharing 9 Establishment of a Facebook Group HICAP Student Sharing On Nov. 9 th a General Meeting took place, Shanshan Qi, Karen Xie, Wendy Zhang and Viviette Luo shared with us their experiences as student helpers in the 2009 HICAP (Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific) during th Oct. at the Inter-Continental Hong Kong. Having Your Own Personal Website - Part I: Application and Administration of Domain Names by Rosanna Leung 12 Google Adwords Workshop 14 Lunch Gathering Rosanna Leung led an entitled Having Your Own Personal Website - Part I: Application and Administration of Domain Names. This workshop provided a brief introduction on how to apply for domain names and transfer the domain name information to web hosting companies. 23 Guest speaker Mr. Howard Tse, Regional Director of Micros Fidelio Asia Pacific, talks about hospitality information management Google Online Challenge Google Online Marketing Challenge is a Google Adwords campaign and all HFTP members were welcome to participate. Apart from learning knowledge about e- marketing, members were also able to win an opportunity to gain further benefits which included visiting Google Headquarter in Silicon Valley. 17 Hotel Visit to Harbor Grand Hong Kong Establishment of Facebook Group A facebook group HFTP Hong Kong PolyU Student Chapter has recently established to facilitate the communication among members. This has processed platform for sharing articles and links related to IT and Finance, uploading photos and posting recommendations.

3 April Newsletter Page 3 14 JAN LUNCH G AT H E R I N G On 14th January, a lunch gathering was held at the Promenade Restaurant of Harbor Plaza Metropolis Hotel. Ten people attended this activity, including Dr. Henry Tsai and nine members. During this outing, we shared the happiness and experience of study hospitality and tourism. We also discussed HFTP activities in the near future. 23 FEB G U E ST S PE E C H Mr. Howard Tse, Regional Director from Micros Fidelio Asia Pacific, delivered HFTP PolyU Student Chapter members a speech at the 23rd February General Meeting. Mr. Howard inspired members with various cutting-edge technology applications used in the hospitality industry, also sharing issues on information management for the hospitality and retail industries worldwide. HOTEL VIS IT TO H A R B O R GRA ND H O N G KO N G On 17th March, HFTP PolyU Student Chapter members visited the Harbour Grand Hong Kong, which is the latest 5-star Hong Kong luxury hotel managed by Harbor Plaza Hotels & Resorts. During this trip, HFTP members inspected variety of hotel rooms and facilities including F&B Outlets, gymnasium and swimming pool. Members also took this opportunities to learn more about the management systems of the hotel. 17 MAR

4 April Newsletter Page 4 Upcoming Events Singapore Study Tour Thanks to an invitation from Singapore HFTP UNLV Student Chapter, 28 members of HFTP PolyU Student Chapter will undertake a study tour to Singapore during middle of May. Sites to be visited will include Sentosa Resort, Universal Studio, Marina Bay Sands and Four Seasons Hotel. Presentation and talks will be a feature of these May site visits. A variety of inter chapter networking activities will also be organized. This would be a popular study tour and will be beneficial to all participants for future studies and industry networking. HITEC Scholarship The world's largest hospitality technology show, HITEC, will be held on th, in Orlando, Florida. Like last year, HITEC invites two HFTP PolyU Student Chapter members to participate in this exciting trade show as student helpers with scholarships. Free registration and accommodation from June 19 th to 24 th will also be provided. Students will assist in several areas of the conference, including assisting staff with the educational sessions, bag stuffing, registration, welcome reception and the HFTP Booth and special displays.
