8 Internationalization trends in HE Institutions in Finland - Larger institutions of HE - Stronger also and above all in internationalization - Increased volume of degree programmes in English for foreign students - Aim to increase immigration in order to solve availability of skilled labour force - Tuition fees for students coming outside EU countries? To come in the future? - At the moment no tuition fees for any students in degree programmes - New legislation enables HE institutions to charge fees of groups outside EU, when degree programmes have been ordered by a company or institution outside EU
9 Focus on Russia - Strategic Alliance in South Eastern Finland (South Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences, Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences and Lappeenranta University of Technology) is introducing a strong focus on Russian co-operation - Also many other HE institutions are interested in increasing student and staff exchange and other co-operation with Russian partner universities and other institutions - Recognition of credits is a clear problem at the moment - Used to be a problem in Finland also some years ago, but situation has changed - Double degrees and joint degrees are a necessity in the future - Bologna Process in EU / Russian degrees?
