2 Honesty is a moral category that has no place in architecture the only thing that might possibly be of interest there is the depiction of honesty. For this architect even that is not decisive, even if it may seem that way to the observer. For him everything is compellingly logical. Design as the process which leads to a correct solution? 3 THE ARCHITECT The architecture within these pages is the tangible manifestation of Roth s vision. These projects, located throughout Europe, demonstrate the power of integrating the highly creative art and science of design with decades of experience in the practical business of getting buildings made. As a result, Roth has been consistently recognized by his peers and praised by his clients. As one client said, This house makes me excited. It makes me feel good. That is the art of it. Roth s architecture has won many architectural awards, including Best Architects Award, Contractworld Award, many Best Building Awards (BDA, AIV and AIA) and the highly regognized Critics Award for Architecture, conferred by the Association of the German Critics. Since 1987 he has had his own studio in Hamburg. From , Roth was a visiting professor for Design at the college in Kassel. Since 2003, he has been a professor at the Institute of Industrial Building and Construction Design, Technische Universität Braunschweig. Born 1958 in Hamburg. Carsten Roth studied architecture at the Technische Universität Braunschweig, at the Academy of Fine arts in Vienna and, with a Fulbright scholarship, at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg and Alexandria/USA.
