1 Press Release 7/14 SANY Germany, July 2014 From Shanghai to Bedburg SANY sets its sights on Europe While companies from Europe usually relocate to the Far East in order to reduce their production costs, SANY Group is taking the opposite direction. "Quality changes the world" is the claim which the company commits to and which is largely written on the German production hall where SANY develops and produces reach stackers, heavy-duty forklift trucks and empty container handlers. Steel parts such as chassis, rear axles and cabs are delivered from SANY s Chinese factories, the main components in the machines come from European suppliers. Chinese machinery made in Europe. In China, SANY has been growing rapidly since its foundation in 1989 transforming into one of the top construction equipment manufacturers worldwide. The product portfolio is one of the broadest among competitors and comprises of mining, concrete, lifting and earth moving equipment as well as container and bulk handling machinery. In the construction machinery sector the company already is a top player and this is also the long-term goal and motivation in the field of port handling equipment, which SANY has been producing since 2005.

2 SANY s clear advantages of producing in Europe are lead times, proximity to customers and suppliers and therefore also significantly reduced logistic costs. If a customer in Europe orders a machine that still has to be assembled, the delivery time from the German production site is substantially shorter than coming from China. The machines all comply with CE regulations and the offering includes a vast portfolio of options that are popular with Western customers, but not so much in Asian markets and therefore less available out of the Chinese factories. Another crucial advantage of the European presence is the facilitated After Sales Service. SANY has a large warehouse in Bedburg with a parts availability of up to 95 percent. The central location guarantees shortest delivery times within Europe and worldwide. The latest addition to the service portfolio is a cooperation with a courier service that enables part deliveries 24/7. Such high level of quality in after sales support would be hard to achieve as a purely Chinese based company. The in-house Research and Development Centre (R&D) is one of the main pillars for the European operations. It is SANY s think tank for new product developments, as well as the test lab for the modification of the machines to local standards. The Chinese models of the reach stackers and forklifts are mainly manufactured for the African and Asian regions, as well as for other so called non-ce markets. The machines for Europe however must conform to the common standards, such as DIN and CE. As a member of various DIN, EN, ISO and FEM committees for both forklift trucks and construction machinery, SANY

3 Germany takes part in shaping the landscape of machinery regulations and proves to pay highest attention to technological progress as well as health and safety in its equipment. The steel structures such as the chassis, cab and boom are imported from the factories in Changsha in China. Every other major compoment, such as the engine, transmission, interior equipment, front axle, seats, mirrors etc., is purchased from European manufacturers and assembled and painted in the German 10,000-square metre production hall with an adjacent 3,000-square metre paint shop. The European foundation was laid by the SANY management in 2011 with the start of the production of concrete pumps in Bedburg near Cologne. After the acquisition of Putzmeister in 2012, the manufacturing of pumps was completely relocated to the new daughter company. Since 2013, port handling machines have rolled continuously out of the production hall in Bedburg to their new owners in Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Italy and Russia. More new orders from Sweden and the UK have contributed to a perfect entry to the European market. Three different models are currently available, with a fourth one being added in the first quarter of Heavy-duty forklift trucks and empty container handlers will complete the mobile port machinery range successively starting in January 2015.

4 The expertise of SANY s engineers becomes clear in every detail: powerful Volvo engines, a movable centre of gravity, high load capacities up to the third row, as well as many features which increase the comfort for the driver, are fitted as standard. "Because we are fairly new to the international market, we are perceived by many as a Chinese company. If we want to overcome the associated prejudices, we have to be not just as good as our competitors, but even better," explains Paolo Dazi, Sales Director at Sany Germany. "This applies to both the machines and the After Sales Service and Spare Parts support." The strategy focuses on a strong distribution network all over Europe with exclusive dealers who are trained to become experts of the SANY products and can act as an extension arm in terms of sales and service for the manufacturer. Within the last year, SANY already formed partnerships in the European focus markets for the distribution of their port machines. In terms of earth moving equipment, the company is still looking to take on board new partners.
