6 Different Integration Options To integrate your cloud application with SAP ERP HCM (or other applications), you need an integration bus for a uni-directional or a bi-directional data exchange between SAP ERP HCM and SuccessFactors You have the option of integrating by flat-file downloads or by using Web services SAP offers different integration tools such as Dell Boomi, SAP NetWeaver PI, and SAP HANA Cloud to integrate SAP ECC/SAP ERP HCM with SuccessFactors 5

You can execute the following applications to monitor and resolve any errors that occurred during integration: HRSFI_MONITORING_EMPL monitoring the transfer of data from SAP ERP to SuccessFactors BizX HRSFI_MONITORING_COMP monitoring the transfer of data from SuccessFactors BizX to SAP ERP The errored PERNs are automatically selected and processed the next time; the data extraction report is executed with the same variant 26

30 Security and Authorization Security aspect of data, data flow, and processes depends on the integration tool you use It varies for SAP NetWeaver PI, HANA Cloud, and file download The add-on uses the authorization concept provided by SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP You can use the BAdI Authorization Check for SFSF Integration (HRSFI_B_AUTHORITY_CHECK) to perform authorization checks on data that is transferred from SuccessFactors BizX to SAP ERP HCM The BAdI uses the authorization object P_ORIGIN to perform the checks The BAdI can be used to assign super user authorization to users There is a sample implementation, which performs a structural authorization check 29

In an integrated scenario, security features are enabled by integrating personal and organizational data from SAP ERP HCM with data feeds into SuccessFactors BizX talent suite Once users are created in SuccessFactors BizX, the security setup is based on the same employee/organizational data as in SAP ERP HCM Accordingly, you can set up roles/authorization based on your requirements Source: SAP 30

32 Settings for Concurrent Employment and Global Employment For employees who have more than one personnel number (typical in CE/GE environments), it is recommended that you use one of the PERNRs as the main assignment You can do this by creating Infotype 0712 (Main Personnel Assignment) with subtype SuccessFactors for that employee If an employee has more than one PERNR and if a main assignment is not defined, the data extraction report RH_SFI_TRIGGER_EMPL_DATA_REPL or RH_SFI_SYNCHRONIZE_EMPL_DATA will randomly select one of the numbers for the extraction of data You can also use the BAdI Determining the Leading Assignment for a Central Person (HRSFI_B_LEADING_CONTRACT) to define the main personnel assignment 31

35 Integrating SuccessFactors BizX into SAP NetWeaver Portal via Single Sign-On (SSO) It is a possible and a suggested best practice to call SuccessFactors from within your SAP NetWeaver Portal (ESS/MSS) You can also set this up via Single Sign-On. Hence, employees are not required to log-in again in SuccessFactors. To enable this feature, you need to do configuration settings on the SuccessFactors side, as well on SAP NetWeaver Portal You can enable this functionality with any Identity Provider (IdP) solution 34

36 Prerequisites for Integrating SuccessFactors BizX into SAP NetWeaver Portal via SSO You need the following information about your SuccessFactors system: Digital certificate in the X.509 standard format SuccessFactors entity ID Consumer service URL Optional global logout response handler URL Relay state Access to SuccessFactors provisioning tool You must have sufficient authorization to make changes in SAP NetWeaver Portal. The portal should be version 7.0 or higher. You need SAP NetWeaver Identify Management to make configurations in SAP NetWeaver. This is available as of Release 7.3x. 35

37 Integration of Multiple SAP ERP HCM Systems with SuccessFactors BizX A challenge arises when you have multiple SAP ERP HCM systems (as the source/target) that need to be integrated with SuccessFactors In this scenario, the integration depends on your system landscape. For example: The different SAP ERP HCM systems will have equal status In the different SAP ERP HCM system landscapes, one of them might be a central system Use SAP ERP HCM system as the target system only What this means is: Different persons might have the same ID The same person might have different IDs in different systems 36

39 Integrating Multiple SAP ERP HCM Systems with SuccessFactors BizX In a typical business environment, SAP ERP HCM systems have disjointed number ranges The way around is to unify the employee s PERNRs (user IDs) You can do this on the sender side (SAP ERP HCM) or on the receiver side (SuccessFactors BizX) SAP recommends that you do the unification on the sender (SAP ERP HCM) side 38

40 Integrating Multiple SAP ERP HCM Systems with SuccessFactors BizX (cont.) You have the following options to unify an employee s ID: Use a non-sap ERP HCM system to manage UIDs Use an alternative PERNR Use an universal unique identifier (UUID) Use Social Security Number (in the US) or similar national IDs Use the employee s address (not recommended) Using one of the above, you create an unique ID for the employee and transfer it to SuccessFactors as the UID If you are using SSO, ensure that this UID is made available in the Identity Provider (IdP) 39

41 Implementation Timeline and Resources Required Depending on the integration method, typically it takes about 8-10 weeks to complete the integration (install through test phase) For many implementation teams, this might possibly be their first SuccessFactors project; therefore, expect a learning curve Integration effort will vary depending on the method, skills, and systems to be integrated. Consider the following factors: Capabilities/competencies of resources to perform integrations Number of development/integration objects to be considered and the integration platform used Implementation teams have more experience using SAP NetWeaver PI than HANA Cloud as the integration method 40

42 Implementation Requirements Functional resource (knowledgeable about SuccessFactors and SAP ERP HCM) BASIS admin with knowledge/experience of SAP NetWeaver PI or SAP HANA Cloud and experience with JVM ABAP developer SAP NetWeaver Portal admin Knowledge of XML is required 41

43 Lessons Learned Current SuccessFactors design limits SSO configuration by user, but not by module For example, in an SSO-enabled instance when a user is set up as a native user (non-sso), there is no restriction as to which modules he can access outside the firewall 42

44 Integration Testing The use case for integration testing should include Data validation: Ensure the data exchanged between SAP ERP HCM and SuccessFactors is accurate and timely Single source of truth: Have one of the systems (SAP ERP HCM or SuccessFactors) as the single source of truth Ease of use: Leverage mashups for easy access from within SuccessFactors. Ensure the links work easily and there are no broken links. 43

46 7 Key Points to Take Home Delivered integrations are available for many business scenarios such as pay-for-performance and attract-to-hire Where required, you can extend the delivered integrations to meet your business requirements Choose your integration process based on the experience of the implementation team as well as the team that will maintain the integrated system The decision point will be the experience of the team to maintain, as well the experience of the implementation team If you currently have SAP NetWeaver PI in your landscape, leverage that as your middleware technology 45

You can use non-sap middleware as your integration technology As a best practice, integrate SuccessFactors with SAP NetWeaver Portal This enables employees to access SuccessFactors from within ESS/MSS Integrating SuccessFactors and SAP ERP HCM can be managed via delivered integrations, minimizing complexity Prior to the release of standard integrations, SuccessFactors customers had been successfully integrating to multiple thirdparty environments 46
