ÉSFCHS (École Secondaire Foothills Composite High School): hosts a vibrant FI Program, developing high levels of written and verbal fluence through engagement in literacy and filmic texts, and the content of Social Studies. AHSFA (Alberta High School of Fine Arts): is recognized for award-winning performances in all facets of choir, theatre & music. AHSFA is the perfect stepping stone to advancing in the Arts. FCHS (Foothills Composite High School): is a multi-stream school with various paths for educational development, including the groundwork for apprenticeships, Fine Arts, Music and many exciting trade options.

9 How do I choose the correct levels for my core subjects? Study at the highest level you can comfortably succeed. Your current teachers will submit academic recommendations to FCHS, on your behalf. You will be placed in the recommended courses and conversations around your success will continue with your Academic Counsellor. 9

10 English & Math Advanced Placement (AP) What is AP? AP is enrichment for students who are passionate, self-motivated and have excellent work ethic in Math and/or English. AP offers accelerated results for motivated students, preparing them for the transition from high school to university. 10

12 French Immersion Celebrating our tenth graduating class this year! French Immersion students take Études sociales in one semester and French Language Arts in the other semester. Students also participate in the French for the Future National Forum, attempt their DELF diploma, and have the opportunity to travel to France, among other cultural activities. 16 16 What is Flex? Intentional time within our school day to allow for students to have the opportunity to make decisions to guide their learning in areas of need or interest. At FCHS we focus on: Enhancing relationships Exposure to future courses Expanding options Improving and supporting deeper understanding of curriculum Reducing student stress.

17 Advancing Courses The Why? Advancing Flex courses are designed to expose students to future course material so that they will have an enhanced understanding of the knowledge and skills. Flexible learning environments focus on students own unique social emotional and academic needs. 17

18 Advancing Courses The What? Flexible learning blocks allow for students to selfadvocate for academic achievement and personal wellness. Students voiced the need for having access to teachers during high demand Flex times. In response, key structures were identified that would accommodate student volume. Flex Advancing courses are designed so that they can be embedded within this structure. They focus on key concepts in effort to prepare students for the rigour of the classroom environment. We will use flexible timetables to enrich students overall experience; respecting personal choice. 18 Advancing classes will support ALL learners in preparing them for next steps.

20 Graduating from Alberta High School of Fine Arts AHSFA intent forms, are available on-line or during registration appointments. If you are interested in 2 different streams within the Fine Arts-then a Fine Arts certificate would be for you! AHSFA students will focus on building a personal portfolio throughout their high school experience. Portfolios can be powerful collection of evidence that showcases a student s skills and talents when applying to university programs, scholarships and/or future career placements.

51 HOW MANY OPTION CLASSES DO I GET IN GRADE 10? Most grade 10 s will have 2 options classes, unless you take CALM over the summer, then you get 3! You should also note, that PE 10 is a grad requirement and is not considered an option until Gr. 11 & 12.
