Backgrund: Mnitring micr plastics particles requires crss brder cperatin. A variety f methds fr quantificatin, which d nt allw quantitative cmparisns Activities: Initial Wrkshp, biblmetric analysis and fresight Internatinal Experts Wrkshp, January Review state f science, develp best practices in methdlgies and steps twards a risk assessment framewrk. Jint call launched in January 2015 with a budget f ver 7.0 millin: (BE, DE, FR, NL, NO, SE, IT) + in-kind cntributins (DK, ES, IE, UK). Validatin and harmnisatin f methds: interlabratry study Identificatin and quantificatin f micrplastics Ec-txiclgical effects f micrplastics Prjects will be funded frm 1 Dec 2015 fr 36 mnths.

21 Multi-use f infrastructure in the Nrth Sea Aim: Design f integrated mnitring prgrammes fr data cllectin fr CFP + MSFD t be cnducted in the cntext f fish stck surveys. Fcus n the extensin f the Internatinal Bttm Trawl Survey (IBTS) f ICES Testing the prcess f designing a crss-brder integrated mnitring strategy, efficiencies in data gathering cvering tw plicies, cmpetencies in different ministries. Backgrund: Cllabratin is needed t crdinate the Nrth Sea mnitring activities acrss different plicy areas (CFP, MSFD) as mnitring is extremely cstly. Activities: Additinal mnitring parameters tested n the ICES-IBTS cruises in 2014 by 7 cuntries resulted in sme simple verviews f the csts related t mre integrated mnitring as well as identifying sme issues related t rganising additinal mnitring. Reprting early 2015

22 Water Framewrk Directive inter-calibratin fr castal and transitinal waters Aim: Testing a mechanism fr jint funding f activity frm envirnmental authrities f nine member cuntries, (nt jint calls), resulting in harmnisatin and strengthening the scientific basis fr cperatin. Backgrund: Cmparable envirnmental assessments are f crucial imprtance fr plicy maker, envirnmental managers and industry t receive equal treatment n envirnmental sustainability Significant gaps still exist despite tw phases f intercalibratin fr castal and transitinal waters. Activities: Results being evaluated. Next steps will lk at prlnging the actin t include wrk n transitinal waters fr benths.

Backgrund Marine mineral resurces are the target f mining cmpanies. Little is knwn n the lng term impact f these activities Activities Prpsal 3-leg cruise t the Pacific regin t cmpare undisturbed and disturbed seaflr Supprt frm 11 MS: DE, BE, FR, IT, NL, NO, PO, PT, RO, SE and UK Shiptime: 90 days n new RV Snne. Ttal budget: 9,694,404, funding started n 1 January Kick-Off meeting January at GEOMAR in Kiel (DE) First leg started n 11 March. Secnd and third legs July & August.
