2 The Øresund Region Copenhagen The Øresund Region including the Copenhagen Metropolitan Area and Skåne, the southernmost region of Sweden is the new regional centre of Northern Europe. Ørestad Saltholm Copenhagen is the pivotal point where Central and Northern Europe meet. The Øresund Region has become a regional centre due to its variety of key positions: Copenhagen Airport Peberholm Malmö The largest metropolitan area in Scandinavia Excellent access to the Scandinavian and Baltic markets Highly developed infrastructure Distinct international profile and geographical proximity A large concentration of knowledge A high growth rate The attractive conditions of the Region have created the largest metropolitan area in Scandinavia with its 3.6 million inhabitants and its high concentration of businesses. Approximately 3,400 foreign-owned businesses have established themselves in the Region. Right from the beginning, Ørestad was meant to be a vital and dynamic town, 24-hours-a-day and not a typical dormitory town. This explains why Ørestad is an area for modern businesses, too. At the turn of 2006/07, almost 10,000 people are employed in the Ørestad businesses years from now, 80,000 people are expected to have their jobs in Ørestad. 4 Excellent access Getting to and from Ørestad is easy. The town has six Metro stations and in Ørestad City, the Øresund Railway and the motorway cross the elevated section of the Metro. This explains why accessibility by Metro, train, bus and car is quite unique. The world s most sophisticated Metro drives through Ørestad every 3 minutes during peak hours and every 6 minutes outside peak hours. The Metro connects Ørestad with the City of Copenhagen, Frederiksberg and the terminus of Vanløse and with Copenhagen s other railway systems. The line to Copenhagen Airport is expected to open at the end of Metro under construction Parking As a growing number of residents and jobs are moving into Ørestad, ØrestadsParkering is constructing parking facilities in Ørestad City and Ørestad Syd. Currently, parking takes place in provisional parking facilities at street level. Later, approx.17 joint multi-storey car parks will be constructed for residents as well as employees. In this way, the use of these areas will be optimised and the residents parking expenses will be as low as possible.
5 Four districts Ørestad Nord Ørestad Nord is the most developed part of Ørestad. The district is a mixed town including residence halls, apartment buildings and DR Byen, the IT University and the University of Copenhagen, Amager. The large institutions have turned the town into an international research and development centre for culture, media and communication technologies. The Amager Fælled District Only the eastern part of the Amager Fælled District has been developed. This is the location of Amager Hospital, the residential area of Solstriben, Ørestad Friskole, and the day-care centre of Småland. The western part of this area will be the last developed section of Ørestad. Ørestad City Ørestad City has already been inhabited by families moving into apartment buildings and by a number of businesses. The natural focal points of the district are Kay Fiskers Plads at Ørestad Metro and the Regional Train Station as well as the city park with its many surrounding dwellings. Ørestad City is also the location of the large shopping centre of Field s. Immediately west of the district, one of Europe s best golf courses is being laid out. Ørestad Syd Ørestad Syd will become a dense and varied urban community including businesses, residential areas, shops, schools and other public services. Ørestad Syd will be the most populated district of Ørestad. Some 10,000 people will move into this district, which will also become the professional basis for another 15,000. To the west and the south, Ørestad Syd borders on the Kalvebod Fælled District. Some of the sites of Ørestad Syd have already been sold and the first constructions will emerge in 2007/08.
