30 Optical fibers are generally considered susceptible to contamination and mechanical strain. Anyone who has assured himself of the fragility of a single optical fiber and specific attenuation of a particle of dust knows the reason why. Therefore we are really proud of the fact that our products can also be found in mine shafts. FIber OPTIcs FOR THE IndUstry Products that sustain such extreme conditions can also cope with other harsh environments. 33 EXPect MORE THAN THE BEST ProdUCTS: OUR SERVIces Every system is only as strong as the weakest component. The significance of cabling in data centers is frequently underestimated and regularly neglected during examination of performance issues. That is why we support you during all phases of the project with the practical experience of 20 years. PHAse 1: DESIgn And ENGIneerIng The closer data rates approach physical limits, the more attention must be paid to the transmission links already during the design phase of a data center. We can explain how to avoid mistakes. PAge 36 PHAse 2: Labeling AND LOGISTIcs To ensure a clear view during installation despite the large number of components we apply efficient tools for labeling, handling and documentation. In practice this leads to significant time advantage and results in cost benefits. PAge ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG

36 There are few technical areas with higher complexity than modern data centers. For that reason it is all the more crucial that the multitude of components is ideally matched to each other. Not only the active technologies require greatest diligence during the project planning. Cabling plays a decisive role as well. In context with the ever increasing demand for higher data rates the physical limits for the transmission links are reached more and more often. This must already be considered during the fundamental design steps for the data center. Good, that we have so much experience and practical know-how. This helps you to keep relaxed and us, too. ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG 35
37 SerVIces Joint consulting and diligent planning are the core principles of each project. Phase 1: PLAnnIng And ENGIneerIng Depending on the starting position and the environment the planning phase can differ significantly with regard to dimensioning and course of action. Which special conditions do exist? Are we talking about expanding an existing data center or building a new one? While e.g. the second case permits choice of topography to suit future demands without succumbing to attenuation limits of the transmission links, the first case requires consideration of the status quo. This automatically demands taking extensive critical inventory. In any case it s all about the most efficient cable management between rooms and racks as well as within the racks. For this consideration of cable types and connectors, number of interfaces, type of cable routing Top of Rack or raised floor and variant of racks and panels has to be taken into account. Absolutely crucial is the question of the desired degree of flexibility and the necessary headroom for future data rate requirements. Among all these considerations we neither loose track of the perspective nor the current status of standards. 36 ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG
38 CUstomIZed SOLUTIOnS One of our special skills during project planning is our ability to incorporate very special demands and requirements. Here it pays off that we have learned to combine the flexibility of mediumsized business with the decades of experience in data center environments. Should individual adaption or application specific development be necessary the course of the project preparation, we offer different solutions and evaluate costs and feasibility. To do so our engineering team, customer service representatives and end-user work closely together to ensure the fulfillment of all practical requirements to finally achieve an optimal implementation. In that way we were able to master a lot of special challenges for our customers, which could be solved with standard components. For example racks with extremely small installation depth, project specific switch cabling or special versions of our Preconnect Trunks. ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG 37
39 SerVIces Phase 2: Labeling AND LOGISTIcs 38 ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG
40 Depending on the dimensions of a project the number of products to be processed may be very high and handling can be accordingly complex. Thousands of connectors must be plugged, hundreds of active and passive components connected, racks and rooms cabled. Rosenberger OSI has developed intelligent processes and tools which not only radically simplify work on site but also ensure retraceability of every single cable. structured ProdUCT INDEXes According your briefing we set up extensive listings containing all to be used cablings. These represent the structure of your individual project and picture the perfect base for bill of material and subsequent data center documentation. Upon request even successive serial numbers of cables and trunks are already included to keep installation as simple as possible. And above that the direct link between each shipment and packing unit is ensured under all circumstances. IdentIFICATION And RETRACeABILITY A key feature of the Rosenberger OSI logistic system is the systematic and detailed product labeling. Each packing unit is equipped with a post-card sized, clearly legible label which not only states the exact product and detailed specification but also the order number with associated barcode. Even for the most voluminous projects this ensures that every cable and every trunk can be identified instantly without a time-consuming search or opening the packages. But this is only one of the reasons why we are the partner of choice for projects with tight time horizon. The one-to-one assignment of serial numbers has another decisive advantage: the retraceability back to production and delivery. Should any unexpected defect or undesirable change of product arise, the reason can be found at any time. HAndlIng And PACKAGIng Of course, each of our trunks is supplied with comprehensive handling and installation information. To prove the excellent quality of each of Rosenberger OSI s products the individual measurement reports are included in the shipment in hardcopy form or in case of larger projects in electronical form. Because we meticulously measure each fiber and connector we gather large amounts of data. To ensure that between our quality assurance test and the deployment of the cables no damage of the products can arise, they are packaged particularly sturdy and carefully. Trunks are delivered either in generously dimensioned boxes or in case of longer lengths or higher fiber counts on drums of cardboard or wood. ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG 39

42 Phase 3: ProJect MANAgement AND InstAllATIon During the implementation phase we assist in project management and coordinate the other parties involved in the infrastructure: energy supply, security and cooling systems. Frequently the structured cabling is already installed prior to the installation of the active components. A smooth interface has to be ensured. Basically the question has to be faced which ratio the splice-cabling will occupy. Nowadays most bigger data centers are built with completely pre-terminated trunks and cables, e.g. our Preconnect FIber Trunks. The advantages with respect to benefits in time and flexibility are clearly visible. Nevertheless the splicing technology can make sense for smaller data centers or an interbuilding solution. The Rosenberger OSI Preconnect FIber Trunks enable a rapid and easy installation. If desired we also can perform the installation for you by our staff members with long-term experience, versed with each detail and possible source for error. We label all cable-ends and components compliant to your own system or in the scope of our Preconnect IPS asset management. After installing all components and as soon as the complete infrastructure is accomplished, we can perform detailed on site acceptance measurements with specific emphasis upon the core parameters attenuation and reflection, on request. Because - in spite of meticulous quality assurance tests during manufacturing only a measurement in the real operation area can ensure perfect performance. Preconnect Cable Dividers The robust Preconnect divider heads can be installed tool-free thanks to its square interface. Measurements at the patch panel In practice measurement data are obtained and evaluated to ensure the faultless and perfect performance of all processes. ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG 41
43 SerVIces Phase 4: MAIntenANCE AND SUPPort Maybe it surprises you to learn that we, as a supplier of high speed cabling, also offer service all around maintenance and support. But our decades of insight into the most diverse practical scenarios reveal that right here a significant demand exists for a well-founded support. Frequently the influence of cabling on performance of the data center is underestimated and that influence is constantly rising. The goal of 100 Gigabit transmission as the next step data rates of 400 or even 1,000 Gigabits are already discussed. But for most installed cabling infrastructures this is far beyond the possible. When upgrading your data center Rosenberger osi can help with an initial estimation if the existing infrastructure is still adequate or if it has to be upgraded as well. If substantial measurements should be necessary we cooperate with specialized partners. Based upon status quo and performance targets we define the briefing for the project planning (see pages 36 / 37). In the scope of running data center maintenance we perform network analysis and quality checks in form of microscopic examination of fiber optical connectors. We measure attenuation and reflection and detect fractures of the optical fibers by the means of lasers. But also other possible causes of error are not neglected, such as e.g. wrongly crossed cable strands. Defective connectors or cables are replaced immediately. Our well-based know-how in error analysis and correction will soon pay off for you for the short-term as well as the long-term perspective. Cleaning of ferrule faces is just as much part of maintenance as the use of modern software for detection of potential interferences of transmission links. 42 ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG

This means to us: promoting innovation, implementing stateof-the-art technology up to the limits of the physically feasible. ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG 47
49 Technology application fields Data Center Mobile CoMMunication Broadcast Industrial Preconnect The Rosenberger OSI Preconnect cabling system consists of pre-connected loose tube cables with up to 144 fibers called Trunk. Already in 1991, as first company, Rosenberger osi introduced these innovative Preconnect Trunks to the German market. Due to our longterm experience in the field of fiber optics and the continuous further development of our products, we still maintain an obvious technological advantage to our competitors. Manufacturing of a Preconnect Cable Divider Step where the fibers coming from the trunk-cable are inserted into the fanouts. ADVAntAges OF Preconnect trunks AT A GLAnce: Both cable ends are assembled with fiber optic connectors on stepped fanout legs, the fibers are measured in the factory. Cables have robust cable dividers. The standard coding resp. light propagation of the legs is channelwise crossed (pairwise flipped) for full-duplex systems A1 to B1, A2 to B2, etc. Upon request we also manufacture the Preconnect Trunks uncrossed (straight). For secure installation the fiber optic connectors, fanouts and cable dividers are equipped with tensile strength and crush resistant installation tubes. To accept the two factory assembled cable dividers, panels developed by Rosenberger OSI are available with special square interfaces for tool-free mounting of the cable dividers, for tensile and torsion resistant installation of the trunks. The ready-to-use Preconnect Trunks result in minimum installation time and permanent reusability. 48 ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG
50 Preconnect cable divider The Rosenberger OSI Preconnect Cable Dividers are one of the mechanically and thermally most robust cable furcations for loose tube cables at smallest diameters. The loose tube cables are molded by two component resin into the back part of the cable divider and the individual fibers are inserted into loose tube fanout legs. THE Preconnect cable dividers: Spliceless cable divider for isolation of fibers of loose tube cables Very robust against mechanical and thermal influence and water-proof according to IP67 the optical fibers are perfectly protected against harmful environmental influence. 51 Technology ADVAntAges COMPAred TO CONVentIonAL FIber OPTIC SPLIce CAblIng low OVerAll COST The overall expenses for all components such as cable meters, pigtails, splice boxes, splice protection, splice holders and above all the time-, personnel- and device-intensive splicing itself are in general higher than for a Preconnect Trunk. LOW AttenUATION And REFLECTION Preconnect is a splice-less connection. The fibers of the cable are inserted into fanout legs in the cable dividers and directly assembled with optical connectors. SAfety Preconnect Trunks are completely protected against harmful environmental influences. In contrast, the fibers in splice boxes, are subjected to air and can age (increased attenuation, fiber fracture). EAsy TO MAIntAIN The robust fanout legs of Preconnect Cable Dividers allow performing service tasks such as cleaning of optical connectors in a much safer way compared to spliced, bending-susceptible fiber pigtails. INVestment ProtectIon Preconnect Trunks are reusable because they can be re-installed easily. MINIMUM InstAllATIon TIme Very simple installation and acceptance test: Preconnect Trunks only have to be laid and the cable dividers and optical connectors plugged within the housing. Preconnect Trunks are pre-measured off factory therefore after installation only Go/No Go tests are required for detecting possible damage during installation at all. 53 Technology APPLICATION FIELDS Broadcast Industrial aviation Medicine harsh environment Lens-contact #12 LENS-contActs Lens-contacts are characterized by a special connection technology which distinguishes itself from most other optical connector types by its special performance: lens-contacts are not sensitive to soiling and permit variable working distance. For this reason they represent reliable optical connection technology for harsh environments with high degree of environmental influence. Schematic cross-section of lens-contact with beam path marked in red. The lens connector technology uses beam expansion as main functional principle. The light exiting from the end of the fiber passes through a spherical lens and is expanded to a beam of a 100 to 200 times bigger area. On the opposite side an identical lens concentrates the incoming splayed beam back to its original diameter and back into the fiber. In the proper connector area the signal is transferred by a comparably large area, without contact of the end faces. This effectively results in a significantly increased tolerance against dirt and reduces the distance sensitivity. Rosenberger OSI looks back on long-term experience in manufacturing of such precision technology. Special know-how, state-of-the-art production processes and uncompromising quality assurance make our lens contacts stateof-the-art products at high level. Especially our customers from industry and broadcasting know and appreciate the performance and durability of our lens-contacts where nothing may be left to chance they rely on high end technology by Rosenberger OSI. 54 Angled Physical Contact (APC) In optical fibers each fiber end causes reflections of coupled light that results in signal attenuation and degradation. Depending on the quality of fiber polish and endface geometry this causes aberrations with effects on data transmission. The APC technology also called High Return Loss (hrl) counters such interferences. This guarantees for low-reflection connections and by this allows more stable transmission paths especially for high data rates. The fiber end is polished under a certain angle usually 8. Reflections forming at the end of the fiber cannot spread anymore. Reflected light is decoupled from the contact surface of the fiber and emitted into the fiber cladding. The angled polish APC/hrl significantly reduces the return loss and interference by reflected signal components. The so-called Signal to Noise Ration (snr) is significantly improved. application field Mobile CoMMunication Data Center Ftth Fiber to the Home harsh environments 8 contact area Since its foundation Rosenberger OSI produces high quality connectors with angled polished fiber end faces. Consequently that turns us into one of the most experienced companies in the field of fiber optics using APC/hrl technology. Rosenberger OSI not only manufactures solid ceramic connectors with APC faces but also successfully uses this technology for hybrid connectors of the Heavy Duty line. Above that we continuously improve our quality assurance and steadily optimize the production conditions to fulfill the enhanced demands for diligence and precision in manufacturing and quality assurance processes. At all times best prerequisites for manufacturing our products according to the latest state-ofthe-art technology and highest level of quality. In controlled manufacturing environments our frequently trained specialists work on one specific target: make the tried-and-true even better. 55 Technology application field Industrial LAser CONNECT HIgh Power The manufacturing industry cannot be imagined without laser welding. Frequently applications with high laser power lead to unwanted side effects, abrasion, loss of precision and finally destruction of the connector. For this reason Rosenberger OSI invented Laser Connect High Power, an innovative system for the process of beam transmission successfully dealing with these complications. The Laser Connect High Power at work: highest performance for laser welding and cutting facilities Laser Connect High Power 54 ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG
56 ADVANTAGES OF LASER CONNECT HIGH POWER AS OVERVIEW THE NEW TYPE SPherICAL LENS The new conic prism attached at the connector face utilizes the laser light to such optimal degree (total reflection), that power of up to 40 kw become possible. At the same time an efficient beam deflection of badly coupled beams takes place, protecting the cladding. The technology of total reflection also avoids excessive heating due to back reflections from the work piece, precludes unstable focus and results in higher tool life. Deficient coupling Good coupling AN InnoVATIVE COOLIng SYSTEM An air-cooling system with high purity compressed air dissipates excess warmth from the critical region at the fiber end and the connector side walls. This additionally results in active cleaning of the fiber surface and increases tool life. BETTER BEAM QUALIty BY MODE MIXER Independent of the beam quality of the launched laser light, the mode mixer permits developing uniform emission properties on the application side. This way old weld seams are avoided. Since 20 years Rosenberger OSI manu-factures laser launch connectors used in industrial and medical applications. The experience and innovation resources of our company specifically for the field of laser technology now resulted in a highquality and performance oriented connector and with which we have entered a new dimension. Inside cool air-stream for cooling of fiber chamber The Laser Connect High Power: this is durable and reliable high-tech for laser welding and cutting lines in expected Rosenberger OSI quality. 122 Assemblies: Preconnect CoPPer 2 Our Preconnect COPPer Trunks were developed on the background of our experience and know-how in fiber optic technology, which we transferred to the structured copper cabling. In that way we engineered for example the Preconnect COPPer Trunk ToR, which despite its six channels, is one of the thinnest and most flexible of its kind and thus perfectly suitable for Top of Rack application in data centers. The cable is very installation friendly due to its very small bending radius and diameter. And: it contributes excellently to the server room cooling, because it does not impair the air flow as it is the case with conventional copper cables. ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG 121

128 Assemblies: PAtchcords AND PIgtAIls 2 Regardless of whether it s fiber or copper, due to the importance of their function, patchcords are the most heavily stressed components in structured cabling. We at Rosenberger OSI know: Each network is just as good as its weakest component. Hence we do not make compromises for patchcords and pigtails too. Finally, they have a crucial influence on transmission performance and thus on the quality of cabling infrastructures. Rosenberger OSI manufactures this group of products for all application fields with optimized kink and crush resistance for different environmental conditions. In particular pigtails need to be installed with much effort. The high quality cables from Rosenberger OSI ensure a long and trouble-free life cycle with a minimum of maintenance effort being required. ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG 127

174 PAnels And RACKS: PAnel AccessorIES 3 Rosenberger OSI attaches greatest importance to meticulous manufacturing processes and the use of high quality material even down to the smallest components. To ensure the safety classes of panels, the quality of accessories is very important, as already smallest material defects and mistakes during the machining process can affect the impermeability. Even the protecting and cable routing components e.g. the strain relief, the patchfield protection or cable managers have to pass intensive quality controls. For we know: The whole system will only work properly if the smallest detail will be taken care of. ROSENBERGER OSI PRODUCT CATALOG 173
