3 Program Descriptions Thursday, July 17 10:00am 11:45am Big & Little Forum/Best Practices Get started on the right foot! Using feedback from Bigs, Littles and parents, we will walk through each step of the Match process and share how it felt to be on the other side. How did they feel about the many steps it took to be enrolled and matched? What are some Best Practices we can use to help strengthen the different steps? We will look at each phase of the Match process and highlight what participants liked and what almost made them run in the opposite direction. Goal: You will come away with an understanding of what led to stronger relationships and engagement from the start, and learn how you can implement these strategies in small, medium or large agencies. Strategic Decision Making for a Sustainable Nonprofit with Georgette Dumont (Asst. Professor, Dept. of Political Science and Public Administration, University of North Florida) This workshop will include the role of the board and top leadership in relation to the internal operations of the organization as well as its external environment. Content will feature a segment on assessing your organization s sustainability by using the Matrix Map, a tool for nonprofit leaders to evaluate each activity and program of a nonprofit. The Matrix Map uses a business model to understand all the business lines from fundraising to programs. The activities and programs are mapped out based on their profitability and mission impact. Goal: Leaders will possess key information for making strategic decisions on how to adjust their nonprofit s business model. Community Outreach/Recruitment with Gale Nelson, Senior Vice President, BBBS-Greater Miami Do your outreach and recruitment efforts need energizing? This session will offer strategies and hands-on tips to get your message out to recruit volunteers and youth. Stay tuned for more details! Marketing & Branding, with Mike White, CEO, Client-Focused Media Join us for a content-packed session covering all aspects of marketing and branding, from campaign development to social media and everything in between. 4 Thursday, July 17 1:45pm 3:15pm Big-Little Relationship Building/Family Engagement Boundaries, activities and high expectations, OH MY! My Little s parent asked me to pick up some groceries for them. My Little seems bored and I don t know what to do. My Little is never ready on time when we have an outing. As we all know, a strong relationship among Match participants isn t always easy or quick. We will share child development and activity ideas that will help you begin building appropriate relationship expectations from the very beginning, from enrollment to match support. Goal: Participants will learn tips designed to foster engagement between match participants and to empower strong match relationships from the beginning. Child Personal Safety Seminar Helping our Littles Be Safe with Nancy Sebastian, Executive Director, The Greatest Save Child Safety is Number One with BBBS, yet are we always confident that we ll see what we need to see or that the Littles will let us know if something is making them uncomfortable? Our speaker will provide an overview of teaching tips, things to look for, and information that is geared to parents and caregivers and will help you educate parents/caregivers AND our Littles on what to know about personal safety. Goal: You will walk away with practical tips to use and to share with families and Littles that help all match participants feel more empowered to identify and stop deviant behavior. Fundraising Judo: Engaging Volunteers and Raising Funds the Gentle Way Robin Johnston, MBA, Certified Management Consultant All too often, organizations try to coerce their volunteers into raising funds from donors by brute force. Fundraising staff often feel that there are no alternatives to cajoling, pleading with or bribing Board members and other volunteers into raising funds. This traditional model is uncomfortable for both volunteers and donors, and produces suboptimal fundraising results. Enter Fundraising Judo. This innovative model provides a framework for engaging volunteers and connecting with donors in a way that is easy and natural for them, and productive for us. This session introduces the Fundraising Judo concept, and emphasizes the keys of passion, intrinsic motivation and alignment. Goal: Participants will learn how to align the interests of volunteers, donors and organizations to achieve maximum fundraising success, while creating a more harmonious and productive fundraising relationship for everyone involved.

Stay tuned for details! Match Support: Longer, Stronger Matches Tired of waiting for families and Bigs to return your calls? Want to make sure you are catching all the nuances of the family and Big dynamics and identifying trouble before it develops? This session will offer strategies and pointers on strengthening family and Big engagement leading to stronger matches. Goal: You will walk away with ideas on how to provide quality case work, and understand how to recognize and address issues before they arise. Friday, July 18 8:15am 9:45am BISS Training, with Reps from the Florida Department of Education BBBSAF staff will provide local agencies with new and ongoing information, including contract updates and technical assistance regarding the BISS grant program, and the direct program teams from throughout the state will have the opportunity to network and share best practices. A representative from the Florida Department of Education will join us to speak about the overall process and any new requirements. Goal: Participants will gain a fresh understanding of the program management requirements and learn about new approaches to ensure program success. Agency CEO Leadership Forum Dedicated to Chief Executive Officers/Executive Directors of our Big Brothers Big Sisters member agencies, this session will provide an open forum for our leaders to gather, share best practices, and brainstorm regarding topics of interest across the BBBS network. Friday, July 18 10:00am 11:30am DJJ Training, with Reps from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice Join BBBSAF staff and representatives from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice as we celebrate our successful pilot year of the Mentoring Children of Incarcerated Parents Program. We ll discuss lessons learned, challenges, what worked and what

6 proved to be difficult to accomplish. We ll learn about and discuss the current procedures and protocols, as well as learn about new requirements, if any. Goal: Participants will gain a refresher on DJJ/MCIP grant management and share best practices regarding program implementation. Zero to $60k (or more!) in Just One Year: A plan for your agency's first annual campaign with Robin Johnston, MBA, Certified Management Consultant Many new agency leaders wonder where to start first, when building an annual campaign from scratch. (Often, some of us who have been around the block could use some help!) This interactive session introduces a framework for building a campaign to fit the culture and resources available at your agency. Goal: Participants will learn the art and science of setting fundraising goals, how to identify constituencies who may give to their agency, the real role of event-based fundraising, how to identify, qualify, and solicit major gifts donors, and why it is important to engage the "BBBS Family.
